Before purchasing this pattern, please read. It is important to understand charts and written instructions and have BACIS knowledge on how to create a granny/african flower motifs. if you are having difficulty with it, please reach out and I would happy to help as much as I can. I’m taking the great plunge and started designing some of my own creatures. Please bare with me as I adventure into this great big new world of Crochet designing. This pattern for my African Flower Whale is my very first EVER pattern. I have tried really hard to make it visually easy to follow, as well as written instructions. (Although I am a big visual fan, so my photos may say more.) I would greatly appreciate it if you respected my pattern(s). It’s insane how much time, effort and hair pulling goes into each new creation and pattern. Please do not sell, copy, post, share my patterns with friends, family or the monkey down the street. Please credit me as the designer and feel free to share your creations with me! I would love to see what you make! Please note: downloadable PDF ONLY of the pattern instructions making your African flower Whale …no hardcopy/finished finished item. The pattern is available only in English :) The Whale is my very first (ever!) written pattern. I have tried really hard to correct all the error (grammar and instructional) as possible. I originally created the whale as a request for a friend, and it seems to be quite a HIT! I cannot tell you the exact amount of yarn to use. It is a great way to use up all your leftover yarn. I prefer to use 2.5mm hook and fingering/sock/sport/sometimes DK weight yarn. Some important things to know when making your whale... 1. First read the whole pattern through and have a good understanding of how your whale is assembled. 2. It’s best if you know how to make the African flower motifs. I have tried really hard to describe the process in making them... but this is my first pattern so I’m sure I missed something... hopefully I didn’t. 3. I use the “join as you go” method as described in Heidi Bears Designs. If you don’t know it or are not comfortable with that method, then I suggest sewing it together. Material needed: The whale that has been crocheted for this pattern was made using sock weight/DK. Using this weight yarn will give you a whale approximately 33cm long, 11cm tall, 11cm wide. Written in AMERICAN CROCHET TERMS Crochet Hook 2.5mm I like my stitches TIGHT. So adjust your hook to the weight of your yarn and to your skill level. Polyester toy stuffing Scissors, blunt end Needle used for sewing in ends and sewing fins on Eyes (15mm plastic safety eyes or wire-looped eye buttons are my preferred). If you use “look alike” safety toy eyes, I have provided instructions for eye lids. NOTE BUTTON OR EYES CAN BE A SAFETY HAZARD FOR SMALL CHILDREN! If this toy is for a child, perhaps crochet eyes and sew them on. Still create eye sockets before embroidering the eyes on…this adds character to your creation. Basic Crocheting Skills: Chain stitch (ch) , Single Crochet (sc), Double Crochet (dc), Slip Stitch (sl st), joining a chain to make a ring, joining in a new color yarn If you find an error or a step that doesn’t make sense, message me, and I will try to help you as best as I can. Dive in and create your whale!! Tasha
