Happy Thursday, everyone! I have to preface this post by saying that I warned you… I was going to make something with a flower. And I am a girl who is true to her word! 😂 I am so excited about this card. I was curious to see if I could try a technique for stitching on cards that doesn’t require the use of any special dies. This is the result. It is easy, fun, and VERY addictive (I have already started on my second card in a day 😬). This tutorial is based on the card I just started (I didn’t photograph the card shown above because I really wasn’t sure I was going to like the way it turned out... lesson learned!) First, I looked around on Pinterest for a cross stitch pattern I liked. After copying the image, I pasted it into my word processing program, sized it to fit on an A2-sized card and printed it out. From there, I cut out the image and temporarily adhered it to my card front. I then poked holes in the corner of all the squares. I promise that this is not as tedious as it sounds… it goes quite fast and was actually pretty meditative. When you’re done with the holes, use your image as a guide and start stitching! Easy peasy cross stitching… no magic happening here. Here is a picture of the pattern I started with along with the result. When your card is done, the results are stunning. I love the way the image just floats in the middle of the card without a bunch of surrounding holes; I think it gives it a more modern, updated look. I also love how you’re not limited to patterns that will fit within the confines of a die. You can customize the size of your image, the colors… oh, the possibilities! I finished my image by popping the panel up on some fun foam for dimension. I added some gold splatters, a Simon Says Stamp love sentiment and some Pretty Pink Posh sequins for sparkle. I hope you enjoyed this tutorial and I would love to hear if you try this technique!
Thanks for all the responses to my Christmas Giveaway - I'm so glad you like my little makes. I feel the need to add that I didn't make those little doggies they are from Wilkinson I was put on to them by Annie the Felt Fairy and I have snaffled a few up. My giveaway will include handmade and bought gifts ~ there that's that cleared up :) I have been crafting like a little good un' and I wanted to show you these. I'm not 'in to' cross stitch really but I can turn my hand to it if I have to, and when I saw these little cross stitch card kits in Hobbycraft I had to have them. They took an age as I don't do this very often but it's nice to step out of your comfort zone and make something different sometimes. I was a bit sad when I looked in the box and found that I had finished them all! Once finished I fixed the aida by machine sewing it to the card to keep it in place and I will delve into my card making drawers for some stickers and sentiments to clag on them. I'm really enjoying making Christmas bits, I will be sorry when it's all over! I couldn't let the day go by without mention that it's my 7th Wedding Anniversay today, 7 years ago today we were stood in this beautiful old castle promising ourselves to each other forever; And joining our two little families together to make one big one; Langley Castle, Hexham, Northumberland 2003 I love thee with the passion put to use in my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith. I love thee with a love I seemed to lose with my lost saints, I love thee with the breath, smiles, tears, of all my life! and, if God choose, I shall but love thee better after death. As soon as Virginia announced her stitching challenge at Virginia's View Challenge Blog, I knew that I wanted to use the Hero Arts Graph background stamp (S5435) to create a grid for a cross-stitch design. I used a Perler bead pattern that I found on Pinterest for the flower design. Thanks for looking. Sentiment stamp - Hero Arts Hello Flowers (CL744)
I’m not even remotely ready to think about Christmas yet, but if hitting six months until the holiday has you itching to do some stitching in green and red, I’ve got you covered. Get re…
Back in the dark ages I did a fair amount of cross-stitch. I loved the shading available with all of the floss colors, but I did not like how expensive it was to frame a piece. Eventually the close work got to be hard on my eyes, and so I put away all my materials and moved on to other things. But seeing the merging of cross-stitching and card making makes me happy, so when I unearthed some 14-count perforated papers in my closet, I thought I'd have a go. I found this pattern through a My Favorite Things printable patterns. supplies: purple, beige, and black card, ecru perforated paper, DMC floss in 3 periwinkles/ 2 greens, 3 strands, Taylored Expressions Garden Party embossing folder, sentiment from Simon's Happy, Memory box Pinpoint Rectangle dies It took me a good 4 hours to stitch this tiny little piece, but it was time enjoyably spent! If you google cross-stitch cards, you'll be able to find lots of small-scale patterns that will work on a card. And I see that you can still buy perforated paper, or you could get yourself one of those dies - Paper Smooches, My Favorite Things, and Altenew all have their own versions. See some HERE. Thanks for stopping by - hope you have a great week!
