There is both excitement and responsibility in the process of naming a pet, as we want to give them a name that matches their character and creates a sense of belonging. This article highlights the power of a pet dog's name, reflecting on its impact on the animal and the human-animal relationship.
Okay, so first I know that not everybody will 'get' this crop, but my philosophy is if we never try something different we'll never move forward, and kind of like the way the lack of symmetry is a little uncomfortable on the eye, it means I have to look at it more than once. I've decided to start a 52 weeks project, I've been toying with the idea for a while and haven't got around to it. I'm way too busy to do a 365, with three dogs to train and exercise, a part time job, photo shoots to complete and edit, a house which needs a LOT of work and an unhealthy amount of reading to do, oh and way too many tv shows to keep up with too! I've got lists of personal shoot ideas on scraps of paper floating around the house, I tend to wake up in the middle of the night with bizzare ideas and have to quickly write them down before I go back to sleep again. Hopefully this project will give me the opportunity to shoot some of these ideas, and give me a chance to experiment with different styles in the hope of developing my own. Mainly though I'm hoping it will help me practice my skills and grow as a photographer. I look back at the photographs I took a few years ago and they make me wince at how shameful they are, however I keep them here as a reminder of how far I've come and how far I have left to go. The only way I'll ever improve is if I keep on pushing myself, so that's what I'm going to do with this project. So I felt this shot was a good way to start, I wanted a new profile photo for my Facebook page. and I felt that this says more about me than just a portrait shot. The film camera in my hand was from a charity shop in Shrewsbury, it doesn't work but I thought it was cool anyway. I have a really bad habit of buying old cameras from charity shops due to some sort of nostalgic sensibility. It seems rather apt to include this broken one because I've been thinking for a while about replacing my D300 for a full frame camera.......
