These are posters/study sheets that summarise the key features, impacts and responses towards the hazardous events studied in A-Level Geography. For those of you who have not yet heard, there has recently been an enormous Magnitude 8.9 earthquake and an accompanying tsunami in Japan. There are currently tsunami warnings for the Pacific, so if you live on the West coast of the US or anywhere in the Pacific Ocean, please be cautious. If your students are learning about plate boundaries, and you want them to understand how convergence creates subduction, earthquakes, volcanism, and tsunamis, this is a GREAT tool to have in your kit. I created this to use specifically with the AICE marine AS kids (for the new syllabus) but this is honestly useful in any marine course learning about plate boundaries. Here's how this lesson would go: Students work on either printed WS or as a Google Doc. The student WS is ~25-26 questions, spans 10 '.gov' and '.edu' websites, and is two sided. After sufficient time is up, work can be reviewed as a whole class group using the PPT key. Review then collect students corrected docs, or collect then review. This PPT can be helpful in two ways: 1) it can reduce the amount of grading you do, and 2) it allows students to be subjected to the content a second time, at a pace you control and you can question the students for engagement. I am a huge fan of reviewing work in this format!! Vocabulary Used in this Resource: 3 types of convergence, oceanic / continental lithosphere (this will not focus on why these have different densities), subduction, trenches, volcanoes, earthquakes, denser plate, temperature/pressure, divergent / transform / convergent (used as a comparison of earthquake intensity), ring of fire, magma, Mariana trench, Pacific / Philippine plate, tidal wave, tsunami, Peru / Micronesia, Sedimentation (how cool that this shows up, since it's an important AICE concept), earthquakes / landslides / volcanism, and long wavelength / short wavelength waves. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ ☛ This Purchase Includes ☚ (1) Product TOU (1) editable Google Docs student handout (1) editable Google Docs teacher key (1) editable clickable links doc (for use with printed versions) (1) non-editable Google Slides whole group review ☛ Earn FREE TpT Stuff & Discounts ☚ Rate the resources you buy!
