First one of these I have done for a while. This is probably the cleanest classic bike engine I have ever seen. My Photoshop work probably added 5% to the shine, and I have removed 99% of blemishes, dents, burnt oil on the exhaust, repaired the worn footrest rubber and painted in the lettering on the engine casing. It's almost time for Fuel Bespoke Motorcycles to kick off their eighth annual Scram Africa expedition. It's a 4,000 km dirt tour that happens in North Africa, specifically for classics and modern classics. So it's also a great excuse to build a new custom bike. The Spanish shop has just buttoned up this retro-fabulous scrambler, and it suits the Scram ethos perfectly. It's based on a 2018 Royal Enfield Himalayan, chosen for its simplicity and relatively compact proportions. The Himalayan's 411 cc single only makes 24.5 hp and 32 Nm; they're not big numbers, but neither is the purchase price
Four years ago Eicher Motors, the owner of Royal Enfield, bought the famous British company Harris Performance. Since the 1970s, Harris has been building high-performance ‘specials,’ and the Hertfordshire firm had already developed the chassis for the Continental GT and Himalayan. Harris has now gone back to its racing roots with this very intriguing prototype flat track racer based on the 650 twin engine. Royal Enfield are adamant that their Interceptor and Continental GT 650 models are ripe for customization. And so far, we've seen plenty of proof from some of the world's best bike builders. Five Royal Enfield dealers in Australia and New Zealand were each tasked with customizing the 650 twin of their choice, in a no-holds barred custom build contest. Royal Enfield hasn't picked a winner yet—but they have given us a peek at the entries. Take a gander, and let us know which one
If you’re a fan of classic motorcycle luggage, you probably know the English company Malle. Set up by designers Robert Nightingale and Jonny Cazzola, the London outfit sells tough but stylish travel gear for riders, and classy accoutrements for weekday use. Robert and Jonny also have a knack for running quirky moto events such as the Malle Mille. Their latest endeavor is next month’s ‘Great Malle Rally,’ and they’ve built two very stylish Royal Enfield Interceptor 650s as support vehicles. Royal Enfield signed on the line when Robert and Jonny pitched the idea of rally spec support bikes to them.
If there's one manufacturer that should have a factory scrambler in their line-up, it's Royal Enfield. There's hardly a square inch on the planet—paved or unpaved—that hasn't been crossed by an Enfield thumper. Sure, there's the Himalayan, but we're filing that one under 'adventure-touring.' What we're looking for is a classic Enfield desert sled—a bike to go head-to-head with Triumph and Ducati's own Scramblers. Even the Indian marque's upcoming range of 650cc twins is curiously devoid of anything resembling that. So Bangkok's K-Speed have decided to show us what RE could be doing.
