3rd Grade Fall Forests Third grade has been working on these cute little creations for the past couple of art classes now, and have been doing a great job! Materials: Tru-Ray construction paper 9x12 & 4x6, pencils, Sharpie markers, scissors, and Elmer's glue sticks. First, the students cut out their ground, and glued it to their background. They were to glue on the lightest green first, darker green second, and darkest green third, to create the look of aerial perspective. After they glued on their ground, the drew and cut out their trees. After they drew and traced the branches with a sharpie, they could glue them on the ground. We talked about overlapping and how to create the illusion of space when gluing on their trees. After the trees were glued, a few clouds and a sun were added to complete their project! Here are some examples of their work! Rebecca Katelyn

This week, 2nd grade started their Fall reflection paintings. These were created in just a few steps. This project was inspired by, Lauralee Chambers . You can check her work out on Instagram, if you click on her name. Here's how we created ours. First draw out "Y" trees on a folded piece of 90lb paper, with a brown oil pastel. My example got a little wrinkled and dirty this week! Then, add paint! We used tempera cakes! These are our favorites!! The colors are so bright and vibrant! (amazon affiliate link) After the students painted their trees with warm colors, they added a little bit of blue for the sky, and a strip of green for the ground. With the top half complete, the students were to really wet the bottom half of their paper. Don't be too scared to add enough water, or it won't work! You may have to blot the crease if you have excess water, but that's ok! It's better to have too much, than not enough! Next class, when the paint is dry, we will add oil pastels to really make things pop! We'll add leaves, clouds, trunk reflections, and white lines on the bottom half to make it look more like water. “Lauren Stacey is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.”

The 2nd Grade students studied the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his artwork. We also read the book, Camille and the Sunflowers. The students were able to create a giant sunflower creating emphasis in their artwork. Then they were shown how to blend colors using oil pastels. The students had to choose a cool color for their background to make their sunflower "pop" in their piece of art.
