Looking for a simple & cozy country Christmas this year? If so, you'll want to check out these gorgeous, DIY farmhouse Christmas tree ideas!
When I was a child I was obsessed with the huge Christmas trees at the mall. They were always oversized and completely full of ornaments, ribbon, flowers and lights!! Everywhere you look you see something new and interesting!! Have you ever dreamed of making your own elaborate tree like that? I have a 4 step process that makes decorating your tree easy!!! The first step is ribbon. Ribbon creates beautiful movement throughout the tree. Start with a good wired ribbon. Make a candy cane shape. Then, give it a pinch in the middle to form a loop (like a bunny ear on a shoelace). When you make a loop, make sure the loop is large enough to billow out so you can see light through it. You don’t want flat loops! The loop will have a small tail on one side, and the remainder of the ribbon roll on the other. Twist the long ribbon roll side so that the front of the ribbon is facing forward again. Now use wire at the base of your loop to keep your loop in place. Place your loop at the top of your tree and start forming another loop out of the long ribbon side. Make a loop and wire it to the tree, and repeat. Now you have a long runner of 3 loops running down your tree. At this point cut your ribbon off. Then start the entire process over again making another 3 loop pattern in another spot of your tree. I like to work in a diagonal formation. The next step is to place your larger pieces into your tree. In this tree, I used large oversized pinecones. I wired them together and then wired them to the tree. I placed them in a diagonal formation across the tree. You can also place them in a triangular formation. Another interesting texture I threw in was grapevine wreaths. These wreaths were a fun item to add to the tree because they provide texture. Plus, they allow light to pass through them. They also add a darker tone to this very light flocked tree. The third step is to add in bundled florals. Floral bundles are a mix of florals, picks and stems. You can use berries, florals, pinecones, or greenery, whatever matches your theme! You can cluster them and wire them together before you place them into the tree. That makes using them again next year even easier!! When you add these into your tree make sure they are facing at a downward angle. In this tree I used a mix of burlap poinsettias and pinecone stems. You can also use the floral bundling idea as a tree topper. Just make sure you are using several floral bundles, each facing a different direction, to make a full topper. Next, let’s add in ornaments. I start with the Christmas balls first. You should get at least 3 different types of Christmas balls. They should vary in size, color and texture. It’s great to cluster them together in threes. You can even pre-wire these before you hang them into the tree. Try and place the Christmas ball clusters a little further into the tree so you give the tree more depth. Now you can randomly place the smaller ornaments on the outer limbs of the tree. I like to find several different ornaments to match the theme of my tree. It’s always best to buy ornaments in an odd number, so you can randomly place them throughout the tree. I hope this post helps you to elevate your Christmas tree and helps bring back some of that childlike wonder!! Christmastime should be a time of utmost joy!:) So remember that decorating your tree should be fun!! Choose whatever YOU like and go for it!!! I would love to see what materials you chose to use!
