This $30 thrift store find might be one of my favorites to flip so far! | By The Top Drawer RVA | This piece of furniture right here, this 30 thrift store find might be my most favorite piece of the year so far. I hope you can look beyond all of this crazy damage that is on the front of these drawers. The missing hardware in the dirt. Because I know I can and I even found a lucky penny inside when I started this piece. So let's get to work. Remove all of that broken veneer which took me way way too long and fill in all of the missing parts with Dixie Belle's mud. When that mud has dried, you can sand it back to flat and it will look like it was never even there. We are going to come in over top of this mud with Dixie Belle's Bonding Boss. Bonding Boss in Grey is a great primer to make sure that you're not going to have any bleed through on your piece. It's also an adhesion primer as well. While the base dries, let's tackle the top of this piece. Just look at the dirt on that rag. Yikes. Don't worry, White Lightning has that covered. After a good clean, we're going to come in with our gel stain. This is Dixie Belle's no pain gel stain in espresso. This gel stain is amazing for going on top of existing finishes. You can see me here just wiping it on in the direction of the wood grain. And I also did the feet of this piece as well. Now that I have waited twenty-four hours for my bonding boss to dry. I came in with a beautiful colour called lemonade and painted the entire base of this piece. The plan for this piece is paper. We are going to add the CPA roses to the front of this piece. After applying one even coat of satin clear coat to the base of the project I sprayed the back of the paper. Spraying the back with water helps it stretch using some cling wrap to push out the wrinkles helps get it down onto your project. And after it dries I can cut out all the drawers and excess pieces with my sharp knife. And here comes my most favourite part. Painting in the paper. This is why I tore the edges to get an uneven edge so that when I apply my paint over top the edges disappear. The trick to painting in paper is to try and get a little bit of texture. I use a lot of terra clay paint for texture on this piece. Along with I feel like every other colour in my little toolbox. Let's work on the top of that piece now that the gel stain has dried. I like to use this TerraTuff which has a beautiful shine to it to seal my gel stain. And I added a tiny bit of stencil over top of the edges of this piece. As well as some beautiful dark wax to accent the trim. Painting on some gold gilding wax on the edges of the drawers. I'm almost done. I reused the original hardware where I could on this piece and added two new vintage knobs as well as some keyholes. And then this Cepia Rose Beauty was finished. I absolutely love this piece of furniture. Can you believe that this piece was only $30 at the thrift store?
