Ben je nog op zoek naar een inspirerend uitje? Dan moet je beslist de tentoonstelling PRESENT in het fotomuseum van Antwerpen bezoeken. In het museum zie je een selectie van foto's die fotograaf Stephan Vanfleteren doorheen zijn gevarieerde carrière maakte en die hij afgelopen zomer zelf uitzocht. Hij werkt vooral in zwartwit. Ik zag al eerder indrukwekkende foto's van deze fotograaf tentoongesteld. In het ruim van een oude boot naast het Steen in Antwerpen. Daar werden portretten getoond van mensen die door het zeer prijzenswaardige initiatief 'Merci Ships' weer een leefbaarder leven kregen. Ook op de tentoonstelling in het FOMU hangen daar een paar foto's van. Maar er is daar nog veel meer te zien. Stephan Vanfleteren begon zijn loopbaan als persfotograaf. Hij bezocht conflicthaarden in heel de wereld en zijn foto's prijkten op voorpagina's van kranten. Maar hij maakte ook reportages waarvan ik me er nog een paar herinner. Zoals die waarin hij samen met een journalist hobo's vergezelt op Amerikaanse treinen en daarvan verslag uitbrengt in Humo. Na verloop van tijd ging hij zich meer en meer toeleggen op portretfotografie en daarin vind ik hem een ware meester. Hij kreeg heel wat bekende mensen voor zijn lens, maar ook de onbekende maar mooie mens kreeg een plekje voor zijn fototoestel. De tentoonstelling is een waar feestje voor de liefhebber van goede fotografie. Bij elk nieuw onderwerp dat ik tegenkwam steeg mijn bewondering voor het talent van deze man. Absoluut hoogtepunt waren voor mij de foto's die in de donkere ruimten met zwarte muren hingen: foto's uit de collectie ' Nature Morte', maar ook een collectie prachtige naaktfoto's van geboorte tot dood. En bijzonder getroffen was ik door de portrettenreeks waarin hij Etienne, een dagelijkse bezoeker van psychiatrisch centrum Dr Guislain in Gent, een week volgde. Deze tentoonstelling is zo'n tentoonstelling waar ik ook achteraf nog mee bezig bleef. Hoe meer ik stil stond bij hetgeen ik er gezien had, hoe enthousiaster ik werd.
