Have you ever had a certain room or space in your home that you couldn't get quite right? I actually have several, one of them being our library. I may have just found the perfect piece of furniture on Craigslist recently...and it seems to be bringing the room and my vision for it, to life. I absolutely love French style furniture. My home is a victorian, but oddly I don't really love true Victorian style. I prefer the soft curvy lines of french pieces, rather than the dark, masculine and sometimes over powering eastlake style furniture. I'm sure I do have a few victorian pieces around my home, but french style, especially Louis XV is my favorite. When I spotted this antique hand carved Louis XV console table on craigslist I knew it needed to come home with me. When the seller dropped the price almost in half, I went for it. The hand carved bouquet of pink flowers in the bottom center was what sold me on it. I have never seen a table that had a carved bouquet of flowers on it before. I found a similar one on Pinterest which was worth thousands. So into the library my new antique French console table went. Her lines are graceful and feminine. I love the pop of blue/green color that she lends to the space. The blue of the table compliments my antique settee perfectly! This settee is a true piece of antique French furniture and is extremely old. It was imported from Europe. Below is a Pinterest photo of a French console table that is similar to mine. I decided to order my favorite French fabric of all time. This is called Covington Bosporus. I ordered it to drape on either sides of my French doors in the library. I love the blues and greens and I believe it will marry well with my table and settee. This fabric also looks beautiful with pink, which is good as my walls are a very pale pink and so are some of my pillows. The next two photos are the library when we viewed the house for the first time. So I also ordered a rug. This one below, to be exact. I like quirky things, and the unexpected, when it comes to decor. Leopard print is one of my favorite "go to prints". I see it as a neutral, and in my opinion, it never goes out of style. I had a zebra print rug in the library for a while now, but it felt to harsh in that space. I'm going to re-home it to my office. Here is a Pinterest picture of what look I'm trying to go for. You can see that the beautiful blue/green console table looks quite nice with the leopard rug! I actually don't even notice the rug. I have black and brown damask rugs in my living room. They are beautiful, but also a lifesaver when you have children. So many things have been spilled on those rugs and they still look great! I try to have dark colored rugs throughout my home, one, because not everyone takes their shoes off at the door (we are all guilty) and two, because I live with two boys, aka, my son and husband. I TRY to incorporate just a little masculine into my decor when I can, for them. So, this is the start of my new look. I ordered everything and it is still en route to me. I only have three framed pictures of France on the walls right now. I am hoping that this year I will be able to put up French style moldings on the walls in here. I want this space to be very French Chic! And....just a peek at a project that I've almost completed after two years of waiting for the right items to show up. I can't wait to share it with you soon! We have been so busy here at Welch House. Yesterday we finally finished the repairs on our front porch and portico ceilings. Loose paint has been scraped off, and in a few days I will start painting them! I can't wait to share the before and afters with you! I also need to share my son's toy room with you as well! It will be a busy summer! Stay well, and I will talk to you soon! -Larissa

The console table was the trend of the day for display furniture in 7th-century Italy. The French continued the fashion for these fabulous consoles during the reign of Louis XIV. They were one of the most successful expressions of the Rococo style which eventually became popular in England and other parts of Europe. The Table en console or console table, was designed to be placed against a wall, often in front of mirror, and provided a way to display objets d'art. It was among the most lavishly decorated pieces of furniture of the early Louis XV period. Usually made of oak, it would be carved, gilded, and drenched with rocaille. Rocaille was a French style of exuberant decoration with an abundance of curves, counter-curves, undulations and elements modeled on nature, (usually in the form of seashells and foliage) that appeared in furniture and interior decoration during the early reign of Louis XV of France. The console tables were usually topped with a plaque of colored marble. I love Louis XV console tables in any form. This post will show you how beautiful they can be when gilded and used classically. For an estimated delivery timescale please see the delivery window in the blue banner above.OUR SPECIAL WOOD: please read before purchasing:Our genuine reclaimed wood is carefully hand-selected for its imperfect appearance. Each plank is sourced from local reclamation experts and has often come from old buildings or an industrial background. Therefore cracks, scuffs, open grain, old nail holes, saw marks, hammer indents and historic paint and rust traces are a common characteristic. We embrace all of these features as they are an integral part of the look and feel of our designs. We occasionally use filler in a complimentary colour, to sure up larger cracks, cuts or imperfections.Unevenness and small shallows in the wood are to be expected. The top of your table may not be perfectly flat as reclaimed wood is not an engineered or manufactured surface. Timbers are arranged to showcase each, bump, dip, knot and crack as these features and quirks give our pieces their individuality and charm. As such unstable items, such as tall stem wine glasses may not sit flat in certain areas. This is all part of the theatre and experience of owning a one-off handmade piece of reclaimed wood furniture. As the reclaimed timber adjusts over time to the conditions in your home, there may be slight movements in the wood such as shrinkage between planks, as well as small cracks opening and closing depending on the environment. This may mean your table develops a small wobble, which can easily be fixed by placing a felt pad under one of the feet. Each piece of our salvaged wood is totally unique and individual in almost every aspect. As such colour, texture and grain will vary across your item(s). The images of the colours and finishes in the gallery are indicative only and can vary. Please contact us if you wish to match the finish of a product you’ve ordered from us previously and we’ll do our best.In the unlikely event you find the character or a particular detail in the reclaimed wood is not for you then we are happy to accept returns and offer a full refund however products should be returned at your cost, securely packaged and insured, within fourteen days of receipt of your order.
