In Sanskrit Mandala refers to intricate concentric circles and other geometric designs that are used as tools to help focus attention during meditation.Mandala in Mandalasana also symbolizes the universe and hence the circular shape. In Ardha Mandalasana (Half Circle Pose in Sanskrit), ardha = half, and mandala = çircle or universe. Creating Half the Universe with the body gesture, one encourages the connection to the Earth and Nature around. A very grounding pose, and considered to be a beginner level pose, practicing Ardha Mandalasana for spiritual purposes is also encouraged. Done balancing the body on one knee, while taking the torso towards one side, it encourages the opening of one side of the body in an easy and effective way.
This block has to be my absolute favourite. For one, it is a tribute to my country, India, on our Republic Day falling on 26th January. Secondly, it is designed by me, not based on any other quilt …
Dwa słoneczne wyzwania (Crafthouse i Craft4you) zmobilizowały mnie do wymyślenia i stworzenia takiej pracy: Jak niestety widać na pierwszy rzut oka - dałam plamę... :)

Crochet The Polina Half Circle Shawl by Selina Veronique Crochet. The free crochet pattern and video tutorial are available on my blog.
Here is this week's doodle. Most of the interesting stuff here is in the borders. I like the half circles in the borders, I think it adds an art deco feel to the whole thing. The best part is what looks...
This beautiful wall hanging has a neatly tasseled semi-circle shape with the interior pattern inspired by mandala designs. To create this art work dozens of cotton cords have been hand-woven together macrame style over the course of many hours, using a total of 1010 knots to create this intricately detailed pattern. Fibre art, featuring natural materials like cotton have become an increasingly popular choice for creating high-quality, luxurious feeling home decor. This half-mandala semicircle has been handwoven using high quality Australian-made cotton cord in a lovely dark grey to blend with almost any decorating style. Make it a bold statement piece to catch the eye on a white wall, or add texture and interest to a coloured feature wall with this fabulous dark neutral shade. The oak dowel is 70cm (27.6 inches) in length with a diameter of 16mm, and has been treated with a natural timber wax. The height of the wall hanging is approximately 35cm (13.7 inches), measured from the top of the dowel, and not inclusive of the hanging cord. The exact measurements of the macrame may vary slightly as is the nature of handmade items. These wall hangings are made by me, in my small studio in South Australia. I am happy to receive enquiries (from serious customers) regarding custom colours and sizes, which I am happy to accomodate when possible. This wall hanging is available in more colours in my Etsy store The Apophyllite. Fig. 42 - The rose window of the cathedral of Lausanne, Switzerland. In the rose window is the year (Annus) positioned in the centre (no. 1). The two-divisions of sun (Sol, no. 2) and moon (Luna, 3) and day (Dies, 4) and night (Nox, 5) are also in the central square. The seasons are in the (half) circles directly around this square: spring (Ver, 11), summer (Estas, 7), autumn (Autumpnus, 19) and winter (Hyems, 15). The elements fire (Ignis, 24), earth (Terra, 25), water (Aqua, 26) and air (Aer, 27) are the centres of the outer circles. According to BACH et al. (1944); BEER (1952); BEER: in BIAUDET (1975). Simon Beck says he used a kind of 'kind of reverse orienteering' to plot the intricate shapes before walking around the pattern at a French ski resort.
