Hanging multiple frames together to decorate your space creates a larger focal point for your room and tells an interesting story with your art. We’ll show you three different arrangements you can try in your own space. So why three frames? You may have heard about the rule of three in decorating, which is based on the observation that odd numbers of objects tend to be more appealing and memorable than an even number of items. Frames hung in odd numbers trigger the eye to keep moving so we see all the images. Let’s get started! Style A – horizontal layout This grouping is very versatile. It looks great on its own or hanging above a piece of furniture. Leave equal space between frames to get a balanced look. It can be a pain to get the spacing between frames exact in a gallery feature, so we’ve designed a product called SpacingStrips™ that makes it easy to mark where the next frame should hang. To get your art up quickly, hang the middle picture first, then use the SpacingStrips on either side of the frame to mark out identical space between the frames. When you are done hanging the other two frames, the low tack adhesive on SpacingStrips removes cleanly. Style B – vertical layout This style works great on a tall narrow wall or in between windows. It has the effect of making a ceiling look higher, so if you want to add some visual height to a room, then this is a good option for you to try. Create a column of artwork with identical space between the frames to give it balance. Make sure to position your favorite piece in the middle as it will be noticed first. We’ve designed the Hang & Level™ picture hanging tool to mark exactly where to put the nail, so you can eliminate mistake holes. You can also visually hang your items so it’s quick and easy to create your gallery. To hang the vertical style, start at the bottom and work your way up so the handle of Hang & Level will not interfere with the rest of the pictures. Style C – creative layout Your art layout should reflect your own style. You don’t have to group pictures in a line. If you hang the items closely together, say 2-3 inches apart, you can create a compact triangular visual that looks great on a small square wall. When using Hang & Level with this orientation, hang the bottom item first, so the handle of the Hang & Level will not interfere with the picture above. Next, hang the top item followed by the frame on the left. Try out the three options in your own space, and it will become clear which one works best for you. Find out the right height to hang artwork no matter what size your picture or mirror is; whether it's hanging above a couch a headboard a mantle or on a wall
Hanging art can be a real challenge. You're never quite sure how high on the wall the frame should go. Does it depend on the height of the wall, or the art, or the person? Or a combination of all 3? At home, I always think I've found the perfect spot for a painting, but when it's up there on the wall it's either too high or too low! So I did a little research and found this tried and true way to determine the perfect height for your hanging your art. Whether you're hanging a personal art collection or office artwork in your reception area, this method is sure to get you great results! It's called '57" on center'. In short, you'll be taking an average person's eye level height, which is 57", and placing the very center of your painting at this height. To do this, place the top of the frame at 57" + ½ of your paintings height, so the 57" mark is right at the painting's center point. Depending on the hanging hardware you're using, you'll need to account for the space from the top of the frame to the hardware, like a wire , hook, or nail. For example, if I'm using the hanging wire that's attached to the back of my frame and when pulled tight it stops 2 inches short of the top of the frame, I would to put the nail the wire would hang in the wall at 57" from the floor, plus ½ the height of the painting , MINUS those 2 inches. Say the painting is 20 inches tall: 57" + 10" - 2" = 65". So, you'd position your hardware 65" from the floor! Consider your audience. You can scale this model for any group of people - whether it's a classroom of kindergarteners or a professional basketball team, just find your average height and you're good to go! Following? No mistake holes. Here’s how it’s done. Tips: How to hang 3 pictures 1. Plan your layout2. Start with the middle picture3. Hang the outer pictures using the middle frame as a guide4. Keep the spacing consistent Plan your layout Start with your furniture in place so you can anchor your art with it. We are hanging our 3 pictures above a couch. The general guideline for art size including groupings is that it covers about two-thirds of the length of the couch. We’ll keep this in mind when selecting the spacing between the frames. We laid out the frames so we could try a few options to select the order of the images and the best spacing. Once you are happy with the layout plan, then you are ready to start hanging the first picture. Start with the middle picture Lot’s of us worry about damaging our walls and making mistakes when we decorate. We designed the Hang & Level™ picture hanging tool to mark exactly where to put the nail. No more mistake holes! With three frames, start with the middle frame first. Hang the frame on the tool and take both the tool and picture to the wall. Center the frame over the couch and about 8 - 10 inches above its top to visually link the two together. Mark the spot for the nail with the tool. Hang the picture and it becomes the guide for the position of the other two frames. Check out this video to see how easy it is to use Hang & Level for a professional look each and every time. Hang your first picture securely For a secure hold we used DécoNails™ with our DécoHammer™ that is the perfect size for precise work. DécoNails hold up to 20 lbs (9 kg). The patented grooved head works with all common hanging hardware, including: picture wire, sawtooth hooks, D-rings and keyhole hooks. Keep your frame from moving To ensure the picture doesn’t move, we installed AnchorPoints™ on each of the bottom corners of the frame. They are easy to use. Apply the AnchorPoints to the frame and hang it on the nail. Use the MiniLevel™ that comes with DécoEssentials™ to get the frame perfectly straight and then push in the bottom corners of the frame to anchor it to the wall. Your picture will stay straight, even in high traffic areas or while dusting. With the middle picture hung securely and straight, you are ready to use it as a guide to hang the other two frames in the grouping. Hang the remaining frames with even spacing, using middle picture as a guide Apply the SpacingStrips™, included in DécoEssentials, to the wall on both sides of the middle frame to easily mark out even spaces. The amount of space to leave between pictures in a grouping depends on the size of the pictures, wall space and furniture, but 2″ to 5″ is a good place to start. With the SpacingStrips in place, use Hang & Level to repeat the simple process to hang both of the other pictures, and apply AnchorPoints to each frame to keep them from moving. That’s it.
