I was thumbing through March 2018 Friend and came across this Easter activity called Seven Days Until Easter. Find it HERE. It EASILY converted into a wonderful singing time activity the Sunday before Easter (since Easter falls on General Conference this year). I’d recommend combining with sharing time and then maybe having the kids even color the poster! […]
Have you ever heard of resurrection eggs? They're a fun, interactive way to tell the Easter story to kids. We did this activity last Sunday with the kids and they were much more receptive and involved than I anticipated! We really enjoyed it. They want to do it again this Sunday. The basic idea is that… Read More Kids Easter activities: Resurrection eggs
Read on for a Christ Centered Easter Family Home Evening Activity, This post is sponsored and contains affiliate links. See the full disclosure. I have found that the longer I am a mom, I have had a greater desire and urgency to focus more on the Savior in our home. Yes, we still like the Easter egg hunts and Easter baskets, but that is not where our focus during the month lies. This past Monday for Family Home Evening, we had a lesson that focused on the events of and leading up to the Savior's Atonement, Crucifixion and Resurrection. I thought I'd share them with you here. Family Home Evening Instructions: Preparation: I hope and pray that you can use these ideas as a guideline and adjust them to the needs of your own specific family. President Monson said, "We cannot afford to neglect this heaven-inspired program. It can bring spiritual growth to each member of the family, helping him or her to withstand the temptations which are everywhere. The lessons learned in the home are those that last the longest." On Lds.org there are resources available in helping to make your Family Home Evenings successful, here is a link to that site on Family Home Evenings. Invite a member of the family member say the prayer Discuss any family business Listen to or Sing: "Hosanna" pg 66 Children's Song Book Follow-up with last weeks FHE. Family Home Evening Lesson: To begin the Family Home Evening, show the movie: The Atonement Discuss with the family what the atonement of Jesus Christ means, to each family member. Game time: I loved this fun little game I found from the Dating Divas. For the game, we split into two teams. We used the Mary cut out and the Peter cut out for our spacers. You can find the game in the Easter: Christ Centered Easter Countdown packed. After the game, our family read the first few pages in the Celebrating A Christ-Centered Easter Book. If you do not have the book, that's okay, you could read this short article about Palm Sunday from Dieter F. Uchtdorf.: Palm Sunday. Give each family member a piece of white copy paper and invite them to each draw a palm leaf on it. You could have a picture of a palm leaf available so they know what they look like. My kiddos drew several palm leaves on their papers. Also on the paper invite them to write how they can focus on the Savior. When everyone is done, share with each other the pictures and how you are each going to focus more on the Savior. Close your FHE, by challenging your family members to think of all that the Savior did for us and do what they said they would do to focus on the Savior. Close with a Family Prayer. Treat Idea: Vanishing Breakfast Rolls (aka empty tombs) (this is a recipe I actually learned in home ec class in Junior High school!) Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt 3 Tablespoons of butter in the microwave. In a bowl mix 2 Tablespoons of ground cinnamon with 1 cup of Sugar. Roll half of a standard marshmallow (not mini) in the melted butter, then roll in the cinnamon sugar mixture. Then wrap the half marshmallow in a refrigerator biscuit. Make sure marshmallow is completely hidden in the biscuit and seal edges. Continue with all biscuits & marshmallows. Place on a baking sheet that has been sprayed with cooking spray. Bake at 375 degrees for 11-13 minutes (Times may vary, check oven at 8 minutes to see how it is doing) Remove immediately from pan. When you bite into the roll or break it open the marshmallow will be gone and there will be an empty "tomb". Thank you so much for stopping by!! I'd love to hear if you've used any of these ideas, leave a comment below... Do you want more FHE ideas??? Click HERE
