Claudia didn't make the sock quilt with us when we made them as a group on a sew day. But then she changed her mind and decided she had to have one! We loved seeing how her fabric choices changed the feel of her socks... And here is another one by Claudia in blues and whites... so pretty. Claudia made this fabulous quilt in shades of pink and ivory. Love the interlocking patterns. And she's getting a head start on Christmas with this fun circle tree. I think I said this last month, but I need to get pattern credits to post here. I just get too busy taking photos and forget to write down the important details. Will work on that!!

Francisco Braylee Danielle Brielle Peyton Lucy Ainsley The above illustration by Lisk Feng shows a seascape in a bubble. Outside the bubble is another world or dimension. She uses elements of the world in the bubble to connect to the world outside. Here is another illustration by Lisk Feng showing two different ideas in and outside the bubble. USE OF COLOR THis other image by Lisk Feng shows how you can use color choices to change a mood. CLICK HERE TO SEE MORE OF HER WORK HOW I USED HER IDEAS TO INSPIRE MY OWN ART... I used the idea of the 2 worlds in and out of the bubble for my piece above. I also used 2 multiple lessons from my Art 1 classes: JellyFish http://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/2015/02/jelly-fish.html Mono Chromatic Hot Air Balloons https://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/2019/12/monochromatic-hot-air-balloons.html Atmospheric Perspective https://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/2013/02/atmospheric-perspective.html -------------------------------------------------------------------------- --- LET'S MAKE ART To Begin: Find a colored paper to use for bubble. Use a large circle to trace. Find color that will work well on your paper. I chose to use a mono-chromatic scheme. WHatever colors you use, try to keep it mostly in the family of the paper. Begin drawing a landscape inside the bubble. Start off light and get darker as you are happy with the outcome. Make sure you have a horizon line to divide the sky and ground. How can you add depth and space to the drawing? Overlapping, size, position, value? Look here for ideas... http://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/2013/02/visual-perspective-atc-art-trading-cards.html Begin using the colors you chose for the bubble to add dimension to your shapes. Leave some areas of original paper showing through. When you are done, cut our bubble and glue to a larger paper that contrast with the bubble color: color compliment or warm/cool. Begin drawing you idea for the world outside your bubble. Use at least 3 areas in the drawing to link together the 2 worlds; sharing a horizon line, connecting a shape, morphing an object into another object. Choose colors that will work well with the background paper. Leave some color exposed in the background. You are done.
Victor Vasarley (above) and Bridget Riley (below) are the King and Queen of Op Art (Optical Illusion Art). They used lines to create form and movement on empty spaces. The use of bending lines (contour line) creates the illusion or three dimension on a flat surface. Olivia , Jorja, Jaycee, and Estrella We are going to use flat and bending lines on our paper. Like Victor Vasarley's bulging sphere, our back ground will be flat lines and our hand will have bent "contour" lines. It will appear as though it is bulging from under the lined paper. 1. Trace your hand with a pencil lightly (you will erase it later). It is best to used lightly lined paper as a guide. 2. Make lines straight across paper. When the line hits the finger, jump up and then join the same line at the other end of the finger. When the line hits the hand, jump up and then join the same line at the other end of the hand. *Hint- when jump line upward or downward with the lines, be consistent I jumped one line only on all parts, stying to go highest in the center of the shape. --------------------MAKE A DECISION---------------- Marker or Colored Pencil? MARKER 3. Color all lines with the marker, you can use a pattern of 2 or more. 4. Using a black crayon or colored pencil, add an outline around hand then lightly color around the outline to suggest a shadow. Shyli, Giovana, Davis, & Michael C. 2021 COLORED PENCIL (challenge) Sawyer, Jaylee, Katherine &Ayden 2021 3. Color background using a medium pressure with a 2 or more color pattern. 4. Color with harder pressure around hand to suggest a shadow. 5. Color hand with medium pressure, except the highest points of the fingers, palm and wrist/arm to suggest highlights from light source above. Estrella (8th grade/2021) is using colored pencils to create form on her hand.
The Lost Sock is so important to me... My book, the philosophy, the dolls... All of it! It was and idea that was handed to me by God. I don't take credit for it. I just feel so blessed that he chose to use me to communicate His love in a way so unique. He gave me the idea for the book one sleepless night... (Explained here...) These two pages are from an autobiographical comic I created years ago, but never finished... it is an illustration of my Spiritual Testimony After much hard work, i finally finished what God had assigned me to do. I learned so much from it, and in the process learned a lot about my relationship with my Creator. Every picture was drawn in communication with my Creator. As I worked I felt so connected to Him in such a special way that I will never forget. I went through a lot of things since I made the book. I struggle with what God wants me to do with it from here. The worldy part of me wants to get rich and famous from it all, but in the end... It is not His plan. For one example, see past blog... http://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/2012/04/so-making-lostsock-dolls-is-big-deal-to.html I want to follow Him every step of this Lost Sock adventure. I know He wants me to use it to reach others and communicate His love more clearly. I cannot gain glory from the project since it is not my idea. So, when I pray for His plan for me... I KNOW the LostSock (dolls, book, and all) is his Legacy He wants me to leave. I know He will use it in a BIG way... but when and how? I pray not for my dreams to come true (because they are self seeking), but for Him to reveal His desires for me and change my dreams to fit His will. I am really excited about a new opportunity He is giving me on July 24th... I got blessed with the chance to read my Lost Sock book to kids who attend reading hour at Alba Library! They will introduce my dolls and have a free doll and book giveaway for the kids! http://albalibrary.org/ It may be a seem like a small step, but a sure step He is giving me! Life is sweet when you trust Jesus... if we do not follow His lead, we are following our own. That is a little scary. We are just lost children who pridefully think we know what we are doing. Without taking hold of our Father's hand, we can be pulled anywhere and spiritually kidnapped! I know the more I do that, the more mistakes I end up making. Eventually I just call out for my Father again and he rescues me and fixes all my mistakes for me. I have realized that I cannot trust myself or other people around me... nobody can be trusted. Thankfully, I have a Father that will never leave me. I only leave Him foolishly when my head gets to full of pride, or I doubt His all-knowing wisdom, or close my ears to His voice. I know He has great plans for me... and my book, my dolls, my blog,... and my dreams! Maisy and Me... My sweet hub Shannon (http://beansbaconchopsticks.blogspot.com/) took these photos of Me and my daughter with the book and dolls. Super Talented man. I have been busy making more dolls for the Alba LIbrary LOST SOCK GIVEAWAY!!! One Lucky kid will win a doll and a book if they attend the reading! Be sure to come and read with us! July 24th at 10am at Alba Library... to see more dolls, go to http://tabithaannthelostsock.blogspot.com/p/my-sock-dolls.html
