How to Be a Mad Scientist: This is my first instructible, so I hope you like it. I have decided to make this instructible about how to be a mad scientist (as you can tell from the title); I am also thinking about entering the Mad Science Fair, so wish me luck. This instr…
One of the goggles found in the laboratory of a Dr. "Henry Jekyll" during an investigation in correlation to some recent murders widely publicized in London city. Jekyll apparently had a dual resolve towards his own safety, as the goggles are a sturdy metal base, and the lenses thick + shatterproof , yet undoubtedly crafted from one of the many radioactive substances in beakers strewn about. The lenses glow bright in a UV black light, and I have ascertained from journal entries that this property, along with the color and magnifying loupes allow the wearer to observe minute details in blended mixtures. The "mad scientist" has constructed the head straps of the goggle with an adjustable, stretchable nylon, perhaps to assist in comfort during the long hours he spent down here. What other reasons might he have had to make the strap adjustable??? The Magnifying loupe on the goggles ~~~IS ATTACHED FIRMLY.~~~~ Someone has taken care that it does not fall off to be lost amidst the streets of London. I do say "Mad" scientist because that is what he has been increasingly labelled in whispered rumors of his connection to the nefarious "Mr. Hyde." The Knife Switch I've been very busy creating a line of designs I call "panels". Basically they all start with a simple rectangle of wood, that I stain, before embellishing it with an array of bits and pieces. I imagine a classic "mad scientist" laboratory and visualize the equipment, experiments and instruments within it. All of them feature light. I set myself a challenge to make a miniature working knife switch. Turns out it’s harder than I thought. So the second best option - a miniature non working knife switch teamed with a green glowing vial. It does come with a caveat: constantly moving the switch will loosen the nuts over time so gentle use is advised. You can also tighten the screws with a small screw driver. I’ll put a couple of extra nuts and bolts - just to be safe. I’ll try a working knife switch when I figure out the wiring. This panel is a “horror/monster/retro science” film trope. Every version of Frankenstein I’ve seen had at least one knife switch and green glowing liquid/lights. I’ve used the genuine antique item on some of my big prop pieces. Love the look of them but appreciate how dangerous they were when used with real high voltage machines not so long ago. I’ve included a few unique embellishments in this one including “sun” ray brass stamps on the top and bottom and machined brass cord ends. The glass vial contains an LED filament powered by a 3V CR2032 battery on the back with a tiny on/off switch. You will need a tool (pliers} to change the battery. There are tiny photo etched steel gauges on the "control panel". It comes with a basic brass chain and a round wooden stand so it can be displayed when not being worn as a pendant. I could also turn it into a pin or fob for a dapper gentleman. Put it on your desk for a unique feature or coffee table when entertaining. Guaranteed to evoke some intrigue and interest especially those who love science fantasy/fiction fandom, an historical aesthetic, movie tropes/props and fine detail miniatures. I'm happy to answer any queries or questions about the piece. Thanks for looking at my work. ****************************************************************************************************************** Please Note: Everything I mail out is to the registered address with Etsy.
