A friend of mine, who has her own blog, has already sent out 63 Christmas Cards! The only difference between hers and the ones I will be sending is that she made them all herself. www.tammydowney.blogspot.com This is a site to check out if you would like to see what can be done and what crafting and stamping cards is all about. Examples: "This card took me a few hours to make. First, I had to pick out the colors I wanted, design the background of the brick wall then do the wreath, I know I'm not the only crafter/stamper out there that spends hours on a card." (quote from Tammy Downey) If you like that card, here are a few more of her latest creations ~ over this weekend ~ This card was made by her 9 year old daughter using 'Notes with Envelopes along with the Button Buddies kit'... And these are 'Tammy's first go around with the NO PEEKING stamp set.' What's in a card these days? Considering what you pay for cards and you never stop at one, even at the dollar store; it just might be worth checking out her site and ordering a kit or two that will cover the cards you will need for every occasion in the coming New Year. Or, give a kit as a gift to a friend, neighbor or family member who is into crafts. Better yet, try it yourself and treat yourself to a kit! I doubt I have a 'crafty' bone in my body but this year I'm going to make some Holiday decorations ~ who knows, if this takes and I find I enjoy it, I'll have a new hobby in 2013; maybe one that could lead to some cash... Here are some more of the cards she's created. Intrigued by Vintage? Take a gander at these, you can't get these at any store that I know of... Thank You Card in a new technique called Faux Frame, adding a vintage feel to it. Vintage and a bit of technique leads to a gorgeous and very masculine birthday card that any man would appreciate. Here is the feminine version. Both these cards were created using sponging, embossing and watercolor techniques. I don't know about you but I can usually, after more than one store and a whole lot of searching, find a suitable card for the female members of my family and friends, but when it comes to men... Frankly, there just isn't much out there that's suitable. The main thing I dislike above all others is the fact that the store bought cards always have some sappy sentiment written in them that almost always is unsuitable even if I like the card. Yes, you can get cards that are blank but they are less then attractive on the cover more times than not. Check out her sites, Tammy has two of them and both are on the right side of my blog. There's Stampin' Up to order the kits at and Tammy Downey's Blog "Love To Create" to see the cards she has created and the latest information about how to create them. Hey, if I can do this, so can you! Catspaw
TGIF peeps! Can you believe this is the last day of January. Remember when it used to seem like it was the longest month of the year for those of us who lived in the snow and cold? Well, living in "paradise" it seems to sail away quickly. Speaking of sailing away, I used the Sailing Home Stamp Set for my card today. We made this at Dottie's yesterday. Our card group was celebrating Sue L.'s birthday. Unfortunately, I didn't get the picture quick enough of the lotus spinning candle. It was awesome! So was the cookies and cream cake. Now for my card... We randomly stamped the anchor with Crumb Cake, Garden Green and Night of Navy inks. The sentiment was already mounted on a block so I don't know what set that was from. Dottie had the pieces all cut for us so we only needed to stamp and glue. She even had the compass stamped and embossed! We punched it out with one of the retired "whale" circle punches. We added a little gem to the center. For the inside, she had printed the sentiment from a card program on her computer and embossed the ship's wheel. I've decided to enter my card at Creative Knockouts - Birthday Wishes Challenge #335. Thank you for stopping by today and I hope you have a great weekend.

It's the men's turn! Fathers, sons, brothers, grandfathers, nephews, uncles, and brothers-in-law are getting some special attention this month. I am always in need of masculine cards, and am so frequently at a loss for ideas. It's hard for me when all I want to do is break out the flower stamps, and add ribbons and bows and doilies, LOL. But I have a special treat for you! I have the Sailing Home bundle from the new annual catalog that starts June 4th, so you get a sneaky peek! And I know Wendy has it too, so the next stop on the tour will have more ideas for this fabulous set! If you landed here from Debbie Henderson's blog, Debbie's Designs, weren't her projects awesome? I'm sure by now you know how to hop, so just follow all the links to take the short five-stop tour. So, when I said I got the Sailing Home bundle, that wasn't entirely true.... I got the entire SUITE! Everything except the High Seas 3D embossing folder, which wasn't on the preorder list, darn it! Anyhoooo, since my daddy was career Navy, and my hubby is also a Navy veteran, I knew I just had to get it. Here is my first card, a birthday card manly enough for any man. The blue seas were embossed with the Seaside folder (retiring!) on a 1-1/2" x 3-3/4" piece of Seaside Spray (New In Color!) cardstock. It was adhered to a 3-3/4" x 5" piece of Whisper White, and then on a 3-7/8" x 5-1/8" Night of Navy mat. I tied the new Night of Navy/Sahara Sand baker's twine in a square knot and adhered the ends on back, then popped the panel up on dimensionals on the Sahara Sand card base. The sail boats were stamped in Night of Navy, and a Blender Pen was used to spread the color around. I think it's awesome that the boats, ship's wheel (cut AND emboss!), and banner are all dies included in the Smooth Sailing Dies! My next card is a perfect thank you for any guy that has helped you in some way. No frilly flowers or bows on this card. Nuh uh. It uses what I think is my favorite (for now, anyway) set in the new catalog - Free As A Bird. It can be bought as a bundle with the Stitched Nested Labels Dies, which are uh-MAZE-ing! The bird was stamped in Soft Suede and the leafy branch in Mossy Meadow. After coloring the bird (Crumb Cake Dark & Light, Soft Suede Dark, Calypso Coral Light) and leaves (Mossy Meadow Light) the image was cut with one of the dies. A second piece was cut using the next smaller die from Wood Textures DSP, split and adhered to the back. Notice that beautiful Mossy Meadow Linen Thread? That's part of the Magnolia Lane Suite - another superb suite! I am happy to see that the Woodland embossing folder is carrying over. Here's a close up of the Stitched Nested Label, which is really more like tiny dots, and I LOVE them! Oh there is so much to love in the new catalog, starting with a whole new layout! I can't wait until everyone has their own catalog to pore over. Be sure you have lots of Post-It flags....you're gonna need them! Up next is the wonderful Wendy Weixler, with her Wickedly Wonderful Creations!

It's time for a new Just Add Ink challenge & Jan has set us a well timed challenge to create a card for males, since it's Father's Day on September 6th in Australia. I ran a masculine card class last weekend too so I combined the challenge with my class card. I do love a man in a suit (whether it's my own darling man, James Bond, or maybe even a dressed up Mr Cumberbatch or the guys from Suits), so I created this formal / tuxedo type suit card. It was very popular with my class lovelies so hope you like it too. My card was adapted from this awesome card & tutorial by Sarah Jane Rae, which I pinned a while ago. I adapted her idea to make a smaller card using a standard half A4 sheet to fit a regular C6 envelope (the card front is 10 x 14.8cm or approx 4 x 6 inches). Sarah's card front was about double this size. I used the envelope punch board to make my bow tie). I used some White Perfect Accent dots for the shirt buttons. I also added a belly band around the front to add a bit more detail & space for a sentiment - birthday & Father's Day versions. The birthday sentiment is from Birthday Blossoms & I also used White Perfect Accents dots coloured with a black sharpie marker - easy! You can see the other sentiment in this pic: I really liked how Sarah attached the shirt front to one side of the jacket so I did this too. This larger picture shows more detail. The card opens up to show a large space for your message. I stamped the birthday version with the fantastic sentiment from Happy Birthday Everyone, a must-have stampin' rewards only stamp set from the annual catalogue. The ' to a wonderful man' sentiment is from this set too. I was hoping to share my instructions to make my card in this post but it's taken much longer to prepare than I expected, so I'll post them separately - hopefully sometime tomorrow - & edit this post to include the instructions link too. Edited 21 August, 2pm Re-edited 23 August 7pm SUIT CARD TEMPLATES & BOW TIE TUTORIAL IS HERE! Please refer to Sarah Jane's suit card tutorial for instructions to make a large suit card. Use the measurements in my templates to reduce size to my standard size card version (14.8 x 10cm or 6 x 4 inch front) with an envelope punch board bow tie. If you have questions or need more info about making my smaller version, please leave me a comment including your e-mail addy & I'll be happy to help. Here are pics from the tute so you can see what's included, but don't save them as they're just small versions of the actual doc. Thanks for visiting & I hope you like my card. Please check out all the Just Add Ink fab team's creations here & try the challenge too - you can never have too many masculine card ideas.
