This design a food truck project based learning math activity puts students in charge of designing and setting up their own food truck. This math pbl unit encourages students to create their own food truck through problem solving, collaboration, research, creativity, math and ELA skills. Click the PREVIEW button above to see more details of what is included. This project based learning food truck project focuses on applying the skills of: decimals area and perimeter volume scaling a recipe converting measurements unit price working with a budget descriptive writing inquiry and research communication entrepreneurship marketing This PBL math food truck project is broken up into six sections Food Truck Basics- students will learn about food trucks, create a name, logo, slogan, hashtags, and design the outside of their truck. This section makes the project their own and different from everyone else's! Food Truck Menus- students will brainstorm menu ideas, decide on menu items, create a menu design, brainstorm descriptive words to describe their menu items, and write descriptions for their menu items. Food Truck Pricing- Students will learn how to scale a recipe to serve 100, how to convert measurements to buy ingredients in large quantities and how to calculate the per unit cost of one serving. They will then use these skills to scale one recipe (or more) for their own food truck, buy ingredients, and calculate the price per unit for their item. Food Truck Equipment and Layout- Students will work with a budget too purchase the appliances, supplies and cooking tools they need inside their food truck. They will calculate their total spending. Then, they will create an interior layout using a scale to draw a floor plan including the appliances and major items purchased. For each item on the floor plan, they will calculate the area, perimeter and volume. Food Truck Marketing- Students will create a playlist that is intended to create a mood/atmosphere around their food truck. Students will create an Instagram feed for their food truck and discuss the power of visuals. Finally, they will design a t-shirt that can be sold or used as a marketing tool for walking advertising. Food Truck Model- Students will create a scale model of their food truck. They will design the exterior to be visually appealing and memorable so it stands out from the crowd. Then they will use nets to create 3D models of the appliances/furniture inside their truck. Ideas for an entry event, end of unit activity, and extensions are also included! What is included? project overview entry event ideas teacher layout/information plan for each section student pages for each section reflection questions for sections 1-5 photo directions for making a 3D model of your food truck pieces/nets for students to use to make their 3D model final activity suggestion end of unit student reflection end of unit grading rubric Do all six sections or pick and choose the sections that work best for your class! ***Because this project is unique to each child's choices and decision making, an answer key for every page is not possible. I have included answer keys for four pages where students answers will not vary. Project Based Learning: GEOMETROCITY! Build a City Made of Math with Geometry. Imagine, Design, and Build a City with this 2D and 3D Adventure! -Project Based Learning -Real World Application -Geometry, Maps, & More -Extension Activities -Differentiated Levels ***THIS RESOURCE IS NOW DIGITAL!*** There is a link to a Google Slides Version. Details below. *This resource can be used for distance learning and e-learning.* Geometrocity is a project based learning activity where students will take their geometry skills and design their own city. This multi-tiered activity allows for immediate differentiation because of the size, and students may complete parts or the entire project based on your choosing. This project doesn’t just focus on math skills, as there are components of social studies (mapping skills), writing, problem solving and comprehension skills too. Students will be creating a city that uses 2D and 3D, practicing both plane and solid geometry. This project allows for students to practice and apply learned skills in geometry while problem solving and making decisions based on their own knowledge, creativity, and imagination. Students will utilize many types of geometric concepts such as nets to create buildings and structures, designing parts of a city with shapes, lines, angles, and incorporating multiple skills at the same time to reach their objectives. Geometrocity is broken into SEVEN phases. Those phases are: Phase One: Permits -Reviewing and previewing geometric terms and visuals. Creating a mini-map. Phase Two: Design & Build -Up to nine city sections can be built. Each page has 10-14 requirements that must be completed. Phase Three: Construction -Putting our city together for the world to see. Phase Four: Building Up -Using nets and 3D to make the city rise above the paper. Phase Five: Assessment -Three types of self-assessments for students. Self, Individual, and group work. Phase Six: Tourism -Create a postcard to persuade visitors to come. Phase Seven: Challenge -5 extra higher level challenges for students that want to create more. p7 About this product/project p8-10 Accessing the digital version for GOOGLE SLIDES p11-15 Images of the project in action p16-17 Mapping skills p18-21 Objectives and introduction p22-27 Phase One: Permits p28-41 Phase Two: Design and Build p42-46 Phase Three: Construction p47-58 Phase Four: Building Up and Nets p59-61 Phase Five: Assessment Rubrics p62-64 Phase Six: Tourism p65-67 Phase Seven: Challenge p68-78 Differentiated Phase Two: Design and Build sections 79-80 Credits Included on this digital resource: Over 30 pages of this pdf are included on a digital resource that can be used with Google Slides and Classroom. Engage your students in learning volume through creating their own 3D monsters! Throughout human history, people have created monsters to both instruct and entertain others. From the classic and colorful ghosts of Pac-Manto the contemporary zombies of Minecraft, the variety of monsters found in popular culture is truly remarkable. For this project, students will design and construct their own monster and calculate the volume of its parts. Have fun! This resource guides students through the process of designing and creating their own monsters to help students to develop a deep understanding of volume. After conducting research on monster design, students sketch their ideas on a practice design page. Next, students draw their monsters onto grid paper (3 different sizes are provided), construct their rectangular prisms, and make their calculations using the template provided. Afterwards, they glue their monsters onto construction paper along with the display labels showcasing their learning. Once complete, these projects look fantastic on hallway bulletin boards! This Project Package Includes: - Step by Step Instructions - Building Instructions - Rectangular Prisms - Minecraft "Creeper" instructions included (w/ Photos) - Research Notes Page - Practice Design Page - 1-Centimeter Grid Paper (8.5 x 11 - Letter) - 1-Centimeter Grid Paper (8.5 x 14 - Legal) - 1-Centimeter Grid Paper (11 x 17 - Tabloid) - Volume Calculations Template (2 pages) - Display Labels (3 Pages) - Project Example Photos - Project Rubric Project-Based Learning (PBL) is a student-centered pedagogy in which students are challenged to actively learn about a subject for an extended period of time. It is a form of active learning or inquiry-based learning. Project-Based Learning is in contrast to paper-based, rote memorization, or teacher-led instruction that presents established facts.
