Hello everyone, it's Deb Riddell of Paxton Valley Folk Art here with you today as a guest designer here at Mini Album Makers. A huge thank you to Autumn and her very talented design team for giving me the opportunity to share my project with you. I live in British Columbia, Canada on a small acreage with my hubby and our rescue dog (affectionately known as The Delinquent!) and I'm a mixed media artist and paper crafter. My style is usually vintage inspired feminine grunge but I love to experiment with many styles and mediums. I'm currently on Therm O Web's Mixed Media Education Team and am a Resident Tutor at Mixed Up Creative as well as a Creative Guide over at A Vintage Journey. I'm very lucky to be able to do what I love best everyday, create art! For my project today, I was strongly influenced by the spring weather that has finally arrived here in Canada and decided to make a little vertical mini album created with ... toilet paper rolls! I followed the YouTube tutorials shared by My Sisters Scrapper, you can find Part 1 of her tutorial here: https://youtu.be/-8vndiRxuWk and Part 2 here: https://youtu.be/_l3YfI2QuYc For my mini album, I used some thick chipboard packaging and covered it with papers from a Recollections 'Blossom and Bliss' paper pad. Laura Denison's 'Stack The Deck' hinge system was used to secure my 6 toilet paper roll 'pages'. I decided on a pink and green colour scheme and alternated the colours when wrapping the flattened toilet paper rolls. The inside and outside of the mini album was covered with more of the Blossom and Bliss paper and a line of Lime Green Stickles Glitter Glue was added around the edges. Journaling cards were created from white cardstock matted with more of the same paper and they were embellished on the front with a variety of die cuts and sentiments. I used kraft cardstock for all of the die cuts and embellished them with either embossing powders, foil or Perfect Pearls for a bit of shimmer. Stickers or stamped sentiments were also added to each card and the pulls were created with a Small Tattered Florals die cut. The back of each journaling card was stamped with Tim Holtz's 'Lined' background stamp. The first and last toilet paper roll pocket pages were embellished with flowers created with a combination of the Tattered Florals and Small Tattered Florals die cuts. Botanical Tea paper from Graphic 45 was used for these flowers which coordinated perfectly with the Blossom and Bliss papers. More flowers were created from the same Graphic 45 paper with the Small Tattered Florals dies to embellish the top of the mini album. On the front flap, a black metal bird sticker was painted with Spun Sugar Distress Paint and wiped back for an aged look but it was still a little too dark so I also inked it with Mushroom Alcohol Ink and Gold Mixative. One of Tim Holtz's Wildflower die cuts was cut from kraft cardstock and embossed with pearl embossing powder. A Metallic Quotations Sticker was backed with more kraft cardstock. Mini Detailed Butterflies were die cut from kraft cardstock and embossed with Irridescent Shimmer embossing powder for the back of the mini album. And here are a couple of more pictures of the inside of the mini album and the finished journaling cards. I hope that you've enjoyed seeing how my Sweet Life vertical mini album came together, I had a lot of fun making it. Thanks again to Autumn for the opportunity to share my project with you and have a wonderful week everyone, happy creating! Deb xo
Yesterday I taught a 2x2x3 Mini Album Class and it's available online HERE! I use a mix of collections to create this project, namely supplies from my Go the Scenic Route, Wonders, and Truly Grateful lines as well as bits and pieces from Shimelle, Dear Lizzy, Jen Hadfield, Amy Tangerine, and more! This 2x2x3 Mini Album features lots of pages, lots of color, and 25 photos from highlights of our June 2022. We learn in class how to make paper tassels and beads to embellish the stitched spine. A PDF with a list of supplies, photo sizes, templates, instructions, and the link to the YouTube video is emailed upon purchase. Here are pictures of all the spreads in this 2x2x3 Mini Album. Hello everyone and welcome to my blog. So pleased you came for a visit. I am here to show you what I have created with Kerry-Jean Watson's awesome Sherlock Book Kit. This fabulous Kit is available from Meg's Garden as either a fully printed version or a digital download that you can print for yourself. HERE is the link to see the video of the Book Kit. I am basically a card maker and I was in need of a Crafting Diary to keep track of Birthdays and Anniversaries, etc. and also Design Team Deadlines, and so that is what I decided to make with my Kit. Yes, I do have all that information on my computer, but there is nothing like having it all on hand in a pretty book is there?? For the front cover I did some stamping and stenciling and splashed a little paint around as well before adding the embellies. Most of the embellishments you can see came from Meg's Garden. You can purchase some fantastic 'bundles' that contain beads, ribbons, metal embellies ... everything you could possibly need to beautifully embellish your Kit, and they come in an assortment of colours too!! The film strip frame came from my stash and the photos inside it are actually photos of some of my past projects for Meg's Garden. The quote was found on the net. I wanted to incorporate some craft quotes into this book so you will see the odd one or two scattered around on different pages. The tabs you can see peeking out from the side of the book are part of the Kit. I simply wrote the months on by hand and then glued them to the edge of the journal pages. The book measures 5.75" x 7.75" and all the pages were distressed and inked with Gathered Twigs Distress Ink and then glued to sheets of Kraft Cardstock. Punched some holes with my Crop-adile and bound it together with seam binding. The binding was also coloured with Distress Ink in Gathered Twigs and Walnut Stain. Here's a closie of the charms ... ... and another of the quote and the flower cluster. I wanted this book to be more than just a Diary. I also want to use it as an ideas journal so I made a couple of small booklets and some tags in order to record things like interesting sketches, color palettes and great techniques. Making the booklet was very simple. I just cut some kraft cardstock and some plain sheets of paper to the size I wanted, folded them in half and then simply punched two holes in the crease and pulled some twine through and tied it with a bow. I then covered the front of each booklet with some of the paper and used a fancy paper clip to keep them closed. Following are some shots of the embellished pages or you can just go straight down to the end of this post for a walk through video which was made by Kerry-Jean Watson the creator of this awesome Kit. I don't make videos as I don't have the equipment and I am so pleased that Kerry-Jean offered to do one for me. Thank you KJ ... you rock!! ... and this is the back of the book. The gorgeous stains you can see are actually on the paper itself. The only changes I made here was to distress and ink the edges ... Looooovee those stains!! Here is the walk-through video!! I do hope you like my little Diary and that I have inspired you to get one for yourself!! Why not pop over to the Meg's Garden Blog and see what my Teamies created with this awesome Kit. You will be amazed by the variety!! HERE is the link to the blog and HERE is the link to the Shop! The end of summer always makes me think of The Fair! All my life, until recent years, I spent time at the State Fair in the areas where I've lived. Since moving to Southern California, we've been to the San Diego fair only once. I miss the old-fashioned fairs of my childhood. However, I have such a passion for the World's Fairs of the past. The Graphic 45 World's Fair Collection is the perfect collection to use for creating a mini album. This collection has many images and sentiments that make decorating a mini album fun and easy! Paper bag mini albums are always popular, and the addition of Graphic 45 Tag Staples makes this one the star of the fair! This mini is approximately 5 3/8" x 5 1/8" with a 1/2" spine. A bit of cord keeps the book together for display purposes. The style of the album is a "fan mini" meaning that it has a small binding, allowing the album to "fan out" when it is sitting on a desk or table. Each of the paper bag pockets contains one Graphic 45 Regular Kraft Tag. Each of the tags is decorated with images cut from the paper. Some of the tags contain pockets and journaling spots. The backs of the tags are suitable for adding photos. Each page of the mini is chock full of tags and journaling spots, and just amazing goodness! The video slideshow below has images of every page! The tags pull out, and are themselves works of art! Each tag is perfect for use in the mini album, or they can be removed and used to embellish scrapbook pages, gift bags, or packages! Some of the tags hold smaller tags and journaling spots! The are lots of flip-out pages and pockets. This little project is simple to create, but packs a lot of style! To create the album base, select four paper lunch bags. Fold each bag in half to create a surface approximately 5 3/8" x 5 1/4". Trim two pieces of medium weight chipboard to 5" x 5 1/4" to act as the front and back covers. Create a spine from kraft cardstock 16" x 5 1/4", score at every inch and accordion fold. Stack the folded lunch bags together, one atop the other. Glue one piece of chipboard to the top of the first bag. Glue the second piece of chipboard to the back of the fourth bag. Glue the lunch bags to the accordion fold spine, skipping every other "valley." Glue a piece of cardstock, cut to 5 1/4" x 4", to cover the spine. Decorate the cover as shown. For more details, see the video slideshow below. Use flowers and metal items to create interest on the cover. The back cover is plain. Add a jump ring to the back cover, and then tie some cord to it. Slip the cord around to the front of the album and loop over the tiny "handle" on the front cover. For a look at the complete project, view the slideshow! See the slideshow on YouTube HERE. Bonjour et bien entendu : MEILLEURS VOEUX pour 2024 ! Aujourd'hui on se retrouve avec une formule un peu originale... A la demande de l'association des Arcs, j'ai créé en décembre un mini que j'ai pensé pour une réalisation en groupe mais qui peut,...
I love interactive projects especially mini albums. It's so much fun to go through an album and find surprises in it. Pull a tag, open a door or turn a wheel and find secrets under it. It takes the mini album to a whole different level. What if I told you you can achieve all that but with only ONE sheet of paper? You can! here's how... First let me say that I'm so happy I can share a Youtube video tutorial with you because it's really difficult to explain all the steps with actually seeing how they work. Start with a 12x12 cardstock. I used a black one and covered it later but you can use a patterned double sided cardstock and then you can skip the covering part. Score it on the 4" and 8" marks, turn it a quarter of a turn and score again. Continue according to the items: First cut along all the lines (that are not dotted) and then fold: A: fold top center to the right. apply adhesive to top and bottom edges of right square and attach to create a pocket. B: fold down. C: fold top left square down. Apply adhesive to right and bottom edges of center left square and attach to create a pocket. fold under center square. D: fold to the right. E: fold bottom right square to the left. F: fold edge of square to the right on 1" mark. apply adhesive to flaps to create two pockets. G: fold bottom left square to the right. Fold up to close. Add tags and inserts to the pockets and embellish. Create strips of paper to hold some of the tags. The steps are a little confusing to explain in words and it'll be so much easier to watch the video. I hope you'll join in the fun and try this project. It might look complicated but it's really easy. Just follow all the steps and you're there! Follow me on Facebook and YouTube for more crafty treats! Have fun creating! Einat
