Neckties make great memory quilts and family heirlooms. I can make you a custom piece out of your loved ones neckties or bowties. All photos are EXAMPLES ONLY as all have been sold. The first four photos are of a small quilt I made from my husband's 100% silk neckties. It can be used as a table topper, or a wall hanging as an art piece (at your request, a sleeve can be sewn on the back ready to be displayed). The remaining 6 photos are those I made for clients; the last photo shows 2 different patterns, one is a strip pattern whereby the ties are cut and sewn into strips, the other are parts of whole neckties sewn on the diagonal. For this first quilt, each 6" square was pieced on the diagonal. All 16 squares were arranged "radiating" outwards from the center. It is lightly quilted using a zig-zag stitch just enough to enhance the top and keep the layers together. The binding is machine sewn with mitered corners for durability. A label is added with the option of adding your message/sentiment to personalize your quilt. This pattern requires from 12-15 neckties. If you prefer a larger quilt (no larger than 4'x4'), I can do different size squares and overall different sizes - pricing will vary with complexity & size. Contact me if any questions. Thanks for looking! Jo

My memorial quilts are made to help those who are grieving the loss of a loved one by using their shirts or neckties to make handmade personalized and customized quilts of all different kinds. I also personalize and embroider prayer quilts, using my clients best loved scripture verses, names and special quotes. I have created quilts customized or embroidered with the name of the recipient with special prayers and biblical texts. BUYERS SUPPLY THE NECKTIES! But, I can use regular fabric in these patterns as well. The quilts pictured above are all custom quilts I made for my clients who were looking for a unique handmade gift for themselves or to honor a loved one. I specialize in these type of projects. If you order one of these quilts, you can be assured that the pattern will be singular and not copied from anyone else. The embroidery likewise is only done if requested and exactly as you expect. Customers may select any of the quilts I have done pictured above and then select the appropriate size. Contact me via Etsy email for specific fabric color choices, embroidery preferences, and materials (such as neckties).

Using Men's Ties in Quilts This tutorial has some great tips and ideas for using men's neckties in quilts and other projects.
My mother gave me a very special gift for Christmas. A wall hanging made from repurposed neckties. But these weren't just any neckties - they were my dad's. My father passed away in March of 2011. He was a university professor and I'm pretty sure he wore a necktie every single day that he taught a class. He was traditional that way.
