Zoogeographical Educational Map of the USSR 1928 . Vintage reproduction home decor map. This map provides an informational and pictorial representation of fauna across the Soviet Union, with common species highlighted for various geographical regions. The map is in two sections. The first includes a table that provides numeric references by region for all listed species shown on the map. A total of 236 species is listed. The map also shows pictorial images of wildlife from European Russia (west of the Ural Mountains), including seals and beluga whales from the White Sea and Arctic regions; bear and moose from the forests north of Moscow; eagles, pheasants, and ducks from the Lower Volga River; and sturgeon and other fish from the Caspian Sea. This section of the map contains several insets, which show animals and birds both useful and injurious to agriculture; the seasonal arrival to Moscow of select migratory birds (by month and day averaged over ten years); and the amount and value of key fur exports. Two further graphs show both the growth of fur exports (in millions of rubles) and the percentage volume imported by country in the 1920s. It also has two pictorial insets for wildlife from the Caucasus region, in the high mountain ranges and in the forests. The second part of the map features pictorial images of many well-known species from different parts of Siberia and the Russian Far East, including Siberian tigers from the Maritime Region around Vladivostok and Khabarovsk; gray whales from the seas around Sakhalin Island; rams, sea otters, and salmon from Kamchatka; and walrus from the Bering Strait region. This section of the map contains two insets, which show hunting regions and a range of wildlife across the USSR. It also has two pictorial insets for wildlife from Kamchatka and Sakhalin Island. If you like the price of the print I am offering, but you can not find the specific map in my store. Please contact me, because chances are I might have them. Disclaimer: Please noted that there will have additional white space around the actual print. For example, if you order a 16x20 size print, there will be approx. 1" to 2" additional space around the print. The additional white space is acting like a cushion during the shipping. The print will move violently up and down during the shipping and there is for sure the side of the print may bend or damage. With the additonal white space on 4 sides, it can prevent this problem. I understand this may cost you extra time to trim the print to fit in a poster frame. I rather you can receive a perfect print instead a damage one.Thank you very much for your order! A new book highlights an occasionally twisted, often amusing, always colorful tradition of hand-drawn cartography.
I have featured maps on this blog many times: maps allegorical, anthropomorphic, and antique, maps featuring octopuses, spiders, relationships and myriad places and perspectives. An ongoing exhibition of pictorial maps at the University of Southern Maine’s Osher Map Library has inspired me to examine this particular cartographical creation yet again–along with a recent ebay score …
A rather fine find this - and one I've never seen before. A pictorial map of the old home town that is found tipped into a little guide called "Rochdale - the town that has faith in itself" and that was obviously issued as publicity to relocate to the town. The guide appears to be c1930 - although the map isn't dated either. Although it notes the "Lancashire & Yorkshire main line" that technically dates to pre-1922 the map also shows Queensway but not Kingsway so I need to do some more searching. The 'trams and motor buses' certainly dates it to pre-1932 when the town's first generation trams ceased. It shows the general grouping of the town's industries and landmarks, along with such things as municipal housing estates such as Turf Hill, Greave/Spotland and parks & open spaces. This includes the crown bowling green tucked away at the back of Charlotte St in Balderstone that was a real fixture for my Grandma Clegg in the 1960s! The plan is 'signed' by Mr Morgan the Borough Surveyor, at the base of the scroll extolling the values and benefits of this then busy mill and industrial borough, but the margins show the initials "WJJ" and I'm inclined to think that is the map-maker/artist.

This is Tainan City in the early 1940's . It was drawn by myself from hundreds of old photos and walks around what remains. It's a twin to the drawing of central Taipei I made a couple of years ago. I wanted to create a unique view of the city moments before it changed forever and large parts were destroyed. I've enjoyed getting to know this city. The area of old Taipei I drew was very planned and modern while the center of Tainan is full of atmospheric winding lanes. A lot of the architecture from the Qing and Japanese eras was beautiful and enjoyable to draw. My favorite is the high court building, which I'm happy still exists, and the Miyako Theater, which sadly doesn't. This is probably my most painstaking work to date. It took many months to both find the old pictures and draw it. All prints will be numbered and signed. The series numbers 60 in total, of which 80% have already sold. The paper is acid free, gallery quality, and uses archival inks. The sharpness, contrast and texture are excellent. It is robust and thick. With the right care these prints will last well beyond 100 years in pristine condition. For more information about the drawing and some process shots take a look at the webpage here: https://www.tomrookart.com/old-tainan International delivery is included in the price. Pictorial map of Stratford-upon-Avon from 1948. ----------- ♥ Printed on premium matte paper (230g/sqm) or professional matte canvas (390g/sqm) ; ♥ Pigment inks (Canon Lucia EX) which last a lifetime, no fading; ♥ Giclée fine reproduction , using one of the best fine art printer, Canon imagePROGRAF 8300; ♥ You can select the size from the menu; other sizes are available. -------------------------------------------------------------- ► For canvas prints, the "canvas+2 inches border" option is necessary if you intend to mount it on a wooden frame; in this case the outer 2" area of the image is printed in mirror as a border. This is the area which should be wrapped on the wooden frame. ► For canvas prints: order the "0.3 inches border" option if you intend to frame it in the classical way; ► For canvas prints: order the "no border" option if you intend to display it using hanging rods; ► For paper prints it is recommended to choose the extra border; it helps for framing; ► Shipping is done in a rigid tube; ► The frame or canvas mounting are not included. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ♥ For framing options or canvas prints mounted on a wooden frame please send me a message. -------------------------------------------------------------------- ● Didn't find what you have been looking for?
