Cashmerette Holyoke: can't stop, won't stop. Fun fact: Holyoke is the town next to the one where I grew up. In fact, I worked at the Holyoke Mall one summer as a kid, at Bath and Body Works. I worked the closing shift and it was unpleasant... But Holyoke is the birthplace of volleyball, so it's got that going for it. So this Holyoke Skirt is a size 16, same as my first one. I loved my red Holyoke so much that I immediately started raiding my stash for appropriate fabric for the next one. The fabric I ended up with is the monstera print rayon/cotton lawn from the Rifle Paper Co. collection from Cotton + Steel. Definitely been hoarding this piece for a while! I had 3 yards of this 45" wide fabric, and had been hedging about what to make with it for, oh, years. The Holyoke pattern says I would need 4 1/8 yards of 45" fabric for the skirt in my size, but I fit it out of 3 pretty easily since it's not directional... score one for creative cutting. I love it! The fabric is much crisper than my crinkle/crepey rayon version, which definitely changed the way it hangs. But it's still delightfully floaty and flowy. Somehow, for this Holyoke skirt, the waistband is a lot more snug than my first version. To the point that I couldn't pull it over my hips (insert face palm and shrugging emojis). Sooooooo, since I am too lazy to unpick the waistband, so I just pull it over my head (insert shrugging emoji again). I'm not sure if the relative tightness is due to the fabric, or my topstitching over the elastic waistband, or what. But it is comfortable once on my waist, so it's no problem. I'm loving this Holyoke skirt. Like seemingly everything I've made this summer, it pairs well with a cropped top. Here the cropped top is my Seamwork Bo. What's your position on maxi skirts? Pro or con?
