How to Make a Pom-Pom Rug: Everyone loves a fun and easy DIY Today I am going to show you how to make a Pom-Pom rug in 6 easy steps. This is a cute way to add a little color to any room in your house, weather it is your bedroom, bathroom, or an entryway.
It was easier to put some instructions on this blog, than post responses on facebook, so here they are... It's very simple to make, just takes forever to make them I went fairly large for a pom pom rug (there's a surprise) - Most you see on Pinterest or google tend to be smaller In total I made over 400 pom poms. Time consuming, but so easy to make anywhere, so you stop becoming aware you are even making them. You zone out, and your hands just keep going You will need: Wool - (fairly obvious). It uses quite a lot. I used cheap double knit from my stash (which has obviously grown again, as I bought more in case I ran out) Latch Hook Canvas - I got this off ebay. The piece I used was 70cm x 100cm Pom Pom Maker (You can use traditional cardboard rings, but you will probably be 110 years old before you finish) I used the 45mm Small Clover Pom Pom maker. (the yellow one) (Don't bother with ebay chinese copies - they are crap) These aren't massive pom poms, but it would have used even more wool, if I had used my larger ones. It takes roughly 2-3 minutes a pom pom Its faster if you use two strands of wool at a time - you need to wind around the pom pom maker until the centre is level with the arcs - approx 100 times around each side of the maker (50 if using double strands) I found if you wind it in the centre, then push the wool to the side, repeat, then fill the middle, its easier Reverse of the rug - poms poms tied, and edges finished The Design I made small flowers - two coloured poms in the middle, and six plain colours around them. When I started to tie these to the rug, I had small gaps. To fill these gaps and the edges, I made a lot of contrasting black and white, and plain black pom poms - these just filled the spaces How to make Start making a good stash of pom poms in different colours - I made about 50, which was the first row of flowers When you tie each pom pom, make sure it is as tight as possible. I double the strands I used to tie them - and leave long tails - you will need these. I do 2 knots on one side of the pom pom, then wrap the wool to the other side of the pom pom maker, and do two knots on this side Now just tie the pom pom to the latch hook canvas, again as tight as possible - Leave a small edge of about 2cm around the edge of the canvas Keep going until you are happy with the amount of pom poms. Fill any spaces that look a bit gappy with a contrasting pom pom Finishing I turned over each of edges of the canvas and sewed them over to get rid of the raw edges On the outside edge pom poms only, I also sewed from the back of the rug to the front, through the pom pom and back again. This stopped the outer pom poms falling outwards Once I was happy with this, I backed it with Hessian (I used a coffee sack I had), and just oversewed the edges. If any pom poms go astray, I can always replace and sew through both layers to attach them again All done, and in place! It passed Tarqs stringent testing standards

Ok, so I know I've not done tonnes of DIY blog posts, but I have done lots of makes at home, and I have to say that this is my absolute favourite to date! Whilst you'll definitely need more than an afternoon for this one, it's really simple and worth persevering with! This is my the cloud rug in my daughter's room, I love texture this rug provides, not only does it look good, it provides excellent sensory stimulation too! So here's what you'll need... You can do this DIY without pom-pom makers, but I would recommend them, I ended up using 10 balls of yarn, yes, you'll need lots of that too, and this small rug consists of 116 pom-poms of varying sizes. NOTE: I chose a chunky wool yarn, the chunkiness meant the pom-poms were quicker with the thicker yarn, and most importantly the wool is more fire retardant than some other fibres, which meant that it would be safer as a home furnishing piece. First up is making the pom-poms for the rug, making sure when they're tied up, you leave a really long double tail. I started assembling once I'd made 95 pom-poms, but it still wasn't enough!! It's also worth me mentioning that the smallest pom-poms were the most useful during assembly. I used to take my pom-pom making supplies with me whenever we were going on long car journeys, or I'd sis in front of the telly winding the yarn up... Like I said, this project needs perseverance, it takes a while. Once you've made enough pom-poms, use your scissors to give them a really nice hair cut and tidy the edges... Again making sure you leave the nice long tails intact. Now you're almost ready for assembly. Take your rug canvas and cut out the shape and size you want. I made a cloud with a flat base that would sit nicely next to the bed, but I'm sure there are lots of other shapes you could experiment with. When choosing the size, I didn't want to go too big, as this would mean more pom-poms, so I positioned it against the cot bed to get a good idea of what size would work. Now its time to knot all those pom-poms to the rug canvas... ...making sure that you tie those knots super tight. I double knotted each one. I started with the pom-poms around the edge, varying the size I used randomly for a more textured effect. I think that the random sized pom-poms are more forgiving incase you make any mistakes. Eventually I'd completed the outline. It's important to do the edge first as the shape can be very easily lost otherwise. Now its time to fill in the middle, working from the outside in, make sure you keep the pom-poms close together as it will make the whole product much sturdier. This is where those small pom-pom's become incredibly useful! Finally the end is in sight... You'll be left with lots of loose ends, I debated with myself for a while how to finish these, I decided to just cut them, I'll explain why in a moment. And just like that, it's complete! I was so pleased with the results, I hope it has inspired you to have a go! I'd love to see what you come up with either in the comments or Facebook, alternatively, if you're a fellow instagrammer, use the #windup cloud. I spent a long time deciding what colours to use for this rug, but I wanted something I'd never tire of as I knew it would be a long project. White might seem like a crazy choice for a rug for CHILD's room, however, the fact that I didn't tie the ends in means that I can cut out any pom-poms that may get stained and simply make a new one! So if you're making one from a colour you mightn't be able to replace, make sure you hoard one for future use! Enjoy! Thanks for stopping by, Charlotte xx

I crafted each of the pom pom balls that went into this rug, afterwards, carefully placing and attaching them to sculpt a beautiful rug straight out of a fairy forest. This rug is approximately 24in x 18in, and it is thick and luxurious. There is a large mix of greens, along with some tans, soft yellows, browns, and whites to create depth and really make this rug shine. It would be perfect in a nursery or bedroom, or anywhere else you would enjoy a nice hug on your feet. It is an excellent cat bed, as well 🐈 the rug is made from 100% acrylic yarn, with a rubbery backing to minimize slipping. Custom sizes, colors, and shapes are available, the price being $45 per square foot, including shipping. If you would like to discuss a custom order, please reach out and we can take a look at what would make your rug perfect for you! Thank you for popping in to take a look, and please reach out with any questions you might have! Have a lovely day 😊 *I am more then happy to answer any questions you have, and send more pictures and make changes before I send it out, but once the rug ships, it is yours, and due to the nature of labor-intensive custom items, I can not offer refunds for items in my store. I strive to package the best possible product, and my first and foremost goal is to send you an item you'll love
