I've had my prom picture on my mind since I saw this image recently (taken the same year-1989), and high school proms came up again in a conversation last night, so I poked around this morning looking for it.... et viola. It seems like an appropriate moment to put it up, as it's mother's day and my mum has always derived great amusement from this photograph. I'm pretty sure Brynde must have gone through a can of aquanet a week. I'm sporting my late senior year fringe-- got those bangs in the front, but under the 1940's vintage hat I'm shaved down closer than a marine recruit. I became rather adept with the electric clippers. Those gloves were my grandmother's formal ball gloves from the 1960s. We showed up late, missed dinner, ate dessert, got our picture taken so that I could prove to my mum that I'd actually gone to prom, and then high-tailed it out of there for Chinese food in Northampton.
