She spent about $5 on the project.
It’s funny (not funny haha, but funny strange) that two of my favourite people on the planet are going through a divorce/separation at the same time I am. It’s meant that I’ve had shoulder’s to cry on and hopefully I’ve given mine a bit in return. My one friend was setting up her new home […]

A two toned chalk paint desk redo. I don’t know about your wallet but mine is still pretty empty from the Christmas season. I feel like it happens every year – we go overboard and then we’re broke and trying to catch up all January long. I tried doing that whole money saving thing last year …

FacebookTweetPin40 Hello! I hope you’re having a great week! I have been a busy bee trying to finish a desk redo so that I can get it out of my garage sell it. I’m really thrilled with how it turned out, and I think you’ll appreciate the transformation as much as I do. This post contains some affiliate links to products that I use (and love). I have wanted to redo a furniture piece like this one for awhile, so when it came up for sale on a local Facebook page, I snapped it up right away. It wasn’t in great shape, but I knew I could make it pretty. This is sadly the only “before” image I have – it’s the one that was provided in the listing. You can see that it wasn’t in the best of shape, but I loved the style, and it’s a solid piece of furniture. Originally I was planning on going with Coastal Blue by General Finishes. It’s a gorgeous navy blue, and I used it for a table and a set of chairs for a client. But I had a change of heart midway through the project and decided to go with Lamp […]

Hello friends! Because I know you love a good before and after just like I do, I have a quick makeover post for you today. This executive desk makeover did not disappoint! Our church is moving to a permanent location, so along with the move comes the need for lots of furniture. I offered to help however I can, so our pastor said the first thing he needed was a desk. Preferably a big executive desk, perfect for a few chairs on the other side. I remembered seeing this old beat up desk at a consignment store, and it was still there!

This vintage desk makeover embraced the flaws in matte black with a stained top for a rags to riches result.
***THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD BUT I CAN RECREATE BY SOURCING ANOTHER THAT CAN BE FINISHED IN THE SAME WAY. MESSAGE ME FOR FURTHER DETAILS*** A beautiful, eye-catching bureau that will sit beautifully in most colour schemes due to its subdued exterior. However, when opened it reveals a bright green interior with the leather pad and small internal drawers having navy and green vintage balloons with the occasional flash of gold. The contrast is striking and this is definitely a statement piece that will be a talking point. This has been painted in General Finishes lamp black milk paint (external) and Annie Sloan's Florence chalk paint (internal). Finished with Polyvine wax finish varnish. This piece was certainly a labour of love as preparation was lengthy to ensure a long-lasting finish. It was cleaned, stripped of all it's existing varnish back to bare wood, cleaned again, sanded and finished with one final clean. Only then was the surface ready for the first layer of paint. In all, this piece had four layers of paint which were followed by a couple of layers of dead flat varnish to ensure it has the best protection. The handles were also treated with the same care to produce a beautiful bright gold. This Walnut bureau has three dovetailed exterior drawers and two interior drawers. This could be used as it was intended as a desk. Equally, it could be used for storage in a hall or it would look fantastic in a bedroom as a dressing table due to the amount of storage for makeup or jewellery. Width: 77.0 cm Height: 102.0 cm Depth: 43.0 cm Desk, when extended, is 76cm

Hey guys! It's my favorite kind of project! A Restoration Hardware inspired piece! I loving getting that look at an affordable price, don't you? Let's turn an old garage sale find into a RH masterpiece! We got this old mahogany desk, but this project will work on any wood type. Let's get started... Materials Furniture Piece, this was a Mahogany desk 1 Garbage Bag Citristrip Mineral Spirits Palm Sander Light Oaking by Weatherwood Stains Flat Varnish by Weatherwood Stains 1 Step Furniture Paint by Pearl Directions 1.] STRIP: First you'll want to apply a thick layer of Citristrip to the table. Citristrip has a tendency to dry out before it can eat away at all the layers of stain and lacquer. So covering the wet stripper with a garbage bag helps keep the moisture in while it works. 2.] SCRAPE: When the stripper turns white, it's ready to be scraper off. Remove the bags and scrape as much of the mixture off, as you can. You'll want to try and get down ti the raw wood if you can. But being careful not to scrape or damage the wood itself. 3.] CLEAN: You will want to wipe the table down with mineral spirits and a rag to remove any existing residue. This should remove any sticky residue from the tabletop. 4.] SAND TOP: Here's the labor portion. You want to use a palm sander and 80 grit sandpaper to make sure the wood is completely down to raw. 5.] PAINT: Paint the base with a good chalky finish or one step furniture paint. You can see how this was super low matte sheen. Perfect the that Restoration Hardware look. Just brush on and allow to dry naturally. 6.] STAIN: Weatherwood released a new stain that can turn oak into a beautiful driftwood gray, called Light Oaking. This product can work on any wood, so it's less complicated than some of their other products. You can apply multiple coats of stain and get darker effects with each layer. This desk was made of mahogany, a real orangey-red wood. So we layered three coats of stain on this, fortunately you can apply them real fast back to back within minutes (unlike traditional wood stains!) so your project can still get done quickly! 7.] SEAL: We used Flat Varnish from Weatherwood to seal the wood. When you seal the wood, the color will lighten slightly. Be prepared, but isn't the effect just great?! One of my favorite furniture transformations, by far! It really captures that industrial, RH look. For more projects with this stain color, check'em out here: link.
