www.adamgormley.com.au This extravagant Indian style building, is a former Royal residence located in Brighton, England. Built as a seaside retreat for the Prince Regent in the early 19th century. Later to become King George IV, he was known for his extravagant lifestyle. I think this wonderful building says it all! Shot at early sunset (about 3:30pm), you can still see the last rays hitting the top of the spires.

Plan of the Royal Pavilion, Brighton
The Royal Pavillion began life as little more than a' farmhouse' which George, Prince of Wales, rented when he first began to visiting Brighton in 1783. He enjoyed the informal atmosphere of the town and in 1787 he asked Henry Holland to create a classically styled villa on the site, known as the Marine Pavilion. From 1802 the interiors were decorated in the Chinese taste. In 1811 George became Prince Regent and soon after this, between 1815-1822. John Nash enlarged the villa and transformed it into the present Pavilion, the exterior inspired by Indian architecture. George IV was king from 1820-1830. His brother William IV(1830-37) shared Georges's fondness for the town, but their niece, Queen Victoria (1837-1901), felt Brighton to be' far too crowded' and sold the Pavilion to Brighton in 1850, having stripped it of all it's fittings and furniture. Since then original furniture and decorations have been returned and restored. Exhibits include items on permanent loan from H.M The Queen. An extensive structural and interior restoration programme was completed in the 1900's
