A few years ago, I started to collect sand from my travels. I wish I had started the collection sooner, but it just means I need to revisit some places (or have friends get me a little scoop while they are traveling!). My favorite part is when I bring them back home and see the variety of colors tha

***Update: I'm now making these shelves, due to popular demand! You can find them here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/SouvenirSand?ref=l2-shopheader-name Jack and I love to travel. We have been collecting sand from the places we visit since we got married almost 8 years ago. (It actually started before that, when I brought home a little bottle of sand from the beaches in Southern France, where I served my mission) Our little sand collection has grown over the years, and I searched in vain for a way to properly display our collection. I eventually made my own wall shelf, and filled it with small glass vials that I ordered online. This project is finally complete! I am so pleased with the results. As I retyped the labels for these vials I was reminded of all the places we've been, and all the memories came flooding back. I had to call Jack so we could reminisce together. We laughed at some of the memories, and shook our heads at some of the 'adventures' we had along the way. It was so much fun to remember all of those experiences. In short, this collection has done what we hoped it would. It stands as a reminder of the places we've been, and how life is "always an adventure"...

Some of us are into bowling, others love traveling, nature, or rock hunting. Does that mean you collect all the bowling balls to make a giant pyramid, or gather every single mosquito you’ve ever killed, or arrange the keys of every hotel and motel you’ve ever been to? Well, for these people, it does indeed.

This is a found object assemblage done within an old printers tray. The tray is 16.5” x 11” and is ready to hang. Inside the compartments is a beautiful collection of nature items both land and sea. I arranged them in the tray like a naturalist might do. The sea items are: sea urchins, conch shells, starfish, abalone shells, moon Shell, muscle shell and sand dollars. The woodland items are: quail eggs, oak pods, pine cones, acorns, eucalyptus pods, butterfly wings, bird feather, and vials of dried flowers and pods. I also added vintage tweezers, glass vials, small looking glass and wooden ruler. I also added copies of vintage illustrations and small metal number discs. This all adds up to the naturalist tray! This would be a great gift for any nature lover or hiker. This would be unique decor art for a beach house or cabin.
