These photographs of 'spirits' are taken from an album of photographs unearthed in a Lancashire second-hand and antiquarian bookshop by one of the Museum's curators. They were taken by a controversial medium called William Hope (1863-1933).

She was executed over a scandal involving her relationship with a Roman Catholic priest. She was 20 years old and eight months pregnant when she her lover faced a firing squad. Louise encountered the tragic story of Camila whilst living in Buenos Aires. Sharing the same surname as Camila and that of Irish ancestry intrigued Louise to research further into the life of Camila. Hearing rumours of the ghost of Camila which inhabited a house in which her brother once lived, Louise gained access to this former home. Here in the house in Tigre in the province of Buenos Aires, Louise spent her days interpreting Camila through a series of atmospheric and emotive self portraits.
