This is the ENGLISH translation of 'Đúng là Tết', which was written in Vietnamese, and also sold in our store. The translation tries to keep the original verse and rhymes, and the book features the same gorgeous illustration. The Story The idea of ‘This is Tết’ came to author Tam and illustrator Mai as they wish to create a book that can touch the heart of Vietnamese mothers reading to their children, and to help Vietnamese kids living everywhere learn about their roots with exciting visuals and verses. Mai and Tam spent a Tết holiday capturing precious moments in their family’s activities, and especially the facial expression of Tam’s two-year-old daughter, a city child experiencing her first traditional Tết. Mai’s character designs were based on Tam’s family members - a typical Vietnamese family of four generations living together. The setting of the book was in Mai’s hometown in Cổ Bản Village and memories of Tết from Mai’s childhood. ‘Đúng là Tết’ was featured on the homepage of New York’s Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators website in April, 2020 and exhibited in Asian Festival of Children’s Content 2020 organized by Singapore Book Council.
