When we moved into our bungalow six years ago, I had always planned on transforming this sad, sad little spot in our basement into a functioning Craft Corner. In the ensuing years, I’ve collected odds and ends – chairs, tables, small storage cabinets – with the idea of putting it together, slowly, bit by bit. And then finally, two summers ago I thought I was ready to put all my efforts into it. I began by painting over an old hand-me-down Ikea desktop from grad school (oh the blood, sweat and – mainly – tears that desk has seen!) and then had hubby add table legs to it. I then cleaned up an old vintage table that used to be my childhood dining room table in the hopes of making it my ‘new’ crafting surface. I was on a mission: sleeves rolled up, bits of paint on my old yoga pants, crouched on the basement floor, pulling things apart, putting them back together…I was determined! And then…I got distracted. Well, maybe not distracted as much as uncertain – uncertain about how to organize and style an unfinished corner in our basement. Did I want shelving units or wall-mounted shelves? Where […]

Hello, Hello! Welcome to another addition of Today we are lucky to have Polly here from the blog, Aunt Polly's Porch. She was so sweet to volunteer when I did my call out for more Sew Inspiring Rooms a couple of weeks ago (Thank you, Polly!!!) Polly is a fabulous quilter, ultra organized and super on-the-ball. I LOVE her Christmas Tilt quilt which you can see HERE and her darling little dog, Yogi. Polly's sewing room has got it all so prepare to be in awe... *** Hello! I’m Polly from Aunt Polly’s Porch! I am so honored to be able to show you my sewing room here! My tiny sewing room was featured in the Winter 2012 Studios magazine by Interweave, so I can share some photos here that didn’t make the final cut there! I will admit it - I am an organization freak…and that’s a good thing when you have as much sewing and quilting stuff as I do in a room that is 10’ by 12’ in size! I am lucky to have a nice wall-to-wall closet in the room, to house my rather large stash. I use grey metal shelves in the closet for stacking/sorting my fabrics. I have a nice bookshelf I bought at Target with all my quilting and sewing books and notebooks from classes, as well as, sewing machine manuals. But I really love the white plastic rolling chests of drawers for storage that are available in so many sizes and shapes and are so reasonably priced at local stores. I have this set right next to me with all my sewing machine feet, threads, notions, buttons and other supplies within close reach! I use this double tall stack of drawers for organizing my many patterns, buttons, stabilizers, and embroidery supplies. Next to those tall stacked drawers is a black metal shelf with my TV/DVD on it and I also have 3 little sets of white plastic drawers on those shelves, as well!! These two sets of drawers fit nicely under the sewing table extension and house organized scraps and other bundles of coordinating fabrics. This awesome round wooden revolving organizer is actually made for scrapbookers, but is also perfect for us sewers with lots of drawers and sections for keeping our many tools organized and close by! I bought it at Michael’s with a coupon! Woo hoo! This little black shelf unit was made for media storage and I actually do have two shelves on it loaded with my sewing room chick flicks! But the rest of the shelves are just perfect for storing pre-cuts like charm packs, jelly rolls, FQ bundles and such! And this antique wooden cabinet used to have drawers in it, but I removed them so I could use the resulting cubbies to store my fat quarters! My thread is stored here on the wall using two June Taylor thread racks from Joann’s. The white cutting table with drawers below, was also bought at my local Joann’s using a coupon. I store my quilting rulers in standing racks on top of it on the right against the wall with my design area. Next to them are all my green Accuquilt GO! dies in racks, too. Above these is a bulletin board for displaying photos, articles and other ideas collected for inspiration!! So, even if you have a tiny little space for sewing like me, if you are organized, you can fit everything in and easily know where to find things in a snap! (And not spend a whole lotta money that you could be spending on fabric!!) I also have a sewing companion…my little Westie named Yogi! He has his own bed on top of my sewing table next to the window. When he’s not lulled to sleep by the hum of my sewing machine, he will be watching the squirrels scamper around below on the deck! What a life!! Please come visit us soon at Aunt Polly’s Porch! *** Thank you so much, Polly, for stopping by! What a treat it was to see your fabulous sewing room. I think we all can take a lesson from you on organizing! P.S. I love your display of spools of thread and how you have so many bobbins organized and ready to go! Please feel free to leave Polly some comment love below! Have a great day! ~ Amber

Syende Fiskerpige, Fisherman's Wife sewing by lamplight, sewing room decor, antique art print, 1890, Anna Ancher, 11x14" Cotton Canvas Print Colors will vary due to your monitor settings Free ship US You frame it! This art print was taken from a vintage painting, print, postcard or digital source. It is in the public domain in the US because the copyrights (if any) have expired. All quoted shipping costs are USA only. NOTE: Our prints are taken from an antique/vintage paintings, greeting cards, post cards etc.. Much of the time, these were originally printed on a soft and porous paper, which softened the images. They didn't have the technology back then to photo-shop and fix these images. That is why I chose to reproduce only antique art in it's original content (no photo-shop). I love the old school art. These are also paintings and drawings, and so the styles vary. The papers we use today, have special coatings so that they attract the inks or dyes well, and stop much of the seeping of the inks. Our new technologies print exactly what is on the scan of the original image. If you purchase canvas, it is made of cotton, and even though it also has this special coating, it is textured, and softens the look of the final result. It is archival, and of the highest quality, but is best for paintings since they were mostly created on artist canvas. It is important to note that if you are buying on your phone or tablet, the images you see are only tiny thumbnails, and so you can't really see the detail in the scan on the listing. If you can look on a computer, you can then see the depth and detail of the image you want. Artwork is not created equal, and sometimes there are clear and distinct lines, and other times the style is less detailed. Lastly, Colors will vary slightly, due to the difference in your monitor settings. Please zoom in on the image to see the detail. I will ship to your country, via first class intl. USPS, but please contact me for a quote before you buy. All art prints are custom designed to fit into a standard, modern frame. The openings on these frames are smaller than the listed size. Your print will be slightly larger than the opening. You can carefully trim it to fit your frame, and pop it in, with or without a mat. Each print is made as it is ordered. Please convo me if you need a specific size. I use real cotton artist's canvas, and the newest technology to enlarge the images, pixel x pixel. There is no stretching or skewing, Cotton canvas is textured in tiny squares, and produces a soft finish like a painting. Since it is fabric, it grabs the color for an extraordinary presentation. I use archival canvas, and special dyes to print each image. They will last 100 years under normal circumstances. Your monitor settings will vary from mine, so colors may look different to you than they really are. Color match technology produces exact colors to the image file used. NO stretching or mounting is needed. No need for expensive, custom framing. I use special, secure packing materials, to insure that your item arrives safely. I have been collecting and selling art prints for many years. I may have just what you are searching for. Just ask, and I will create a special listing, just for you. Thank you for your interest.
