Baro Tura, Arbore Tribe, Ethiopia "Because I don't live in either my past or my future. I'm interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you'll be a happy man, my 8 kids will be happy too. .... Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we're living right now."

Schossberger mansion, Tura, Hungary Zsigmond Schossberger was a sugar-baron in the 19th century. After the wealthy businessman became a real baron, he bought the region of Tura village and built his mansion there. According to the rumors the baron was traveling a lot and he built the little chateau for his wife. The architect Miklos Ybl was working on the Opera House of Budapest at the same time and because of this the interior design of the two buildings are quite similar. During the war the mansion was used by the Nazi and Soviet troops as a headquarters, later it was a hospital and a school. In 1973 it became property of a State-owned firm which abandoned it completely. After the fall of the Communism it was bought by an Indian businessman who wanted to transform it into a luxury hotel. A new interior wall was built in 2005 and when the works stopped. There is a ticket counter in a rusty trailer near the entrance and there is also a plastic portable toilet. No water. The guard sells 6 kind of postcards and tickets. He tells every visitor not to take professional photos inside because the building was used several time to shot commercial shots and porn movies. Today the building is rotting away. Visitors may only enter at their own risk. The second story is closed. (I was afraid to climb up the stairs, because pieces of the paint and some small bricks were falling.) The vegetation reconquered the tropical greenhouse and gave the mansion an Angor like look. There is a poor exhibition of photos inside mostly from the glorious days of the palace. Corridors lead into the deep of the building and behind the broken doors there is an enigmatic new brick wall visible. Most of the trails in the park are devoured by the vegetation. I read that there was a lake many years ago but we could not find trace of it; we identified the remains of a gazebo. In front of the entrance there is a crumbling baroque style granary. The mansion is open to every brave visitor until 7 PM. More photos in my Tura set ribizlifozelek.blogspot.com/2009/08/gazdagok-vagyunk-scho...
