Hello again! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 22/08/2015 (EDIT) I can't believe that this post was repinned from the Pinterest board about 1500 times!!! I'm so glad people like it! I want to thank every visitor of my blog. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are you familiar with the works of Laura Denison from "Following The Paper Trail"? She's so inspiring! I came across the picture of her Vintage Suitcase and couldn't resist making one for myself. The tutorial with the pattern is available here. This is my take on it: Several close-ups: And of course, the suitcase cannot be empty: I've created several things to put inside - 4 ATC's (Postcards Series), a matchbox, a mini album with tags, a pair of big post cards: Here's a pile of the ATCs: The bottom is stamped with various sayings' stamps from Tim Holtz: I decided to make a double bottom: There's a secret pocket for things you would like to hide :) Here are the large post cards and an envelope I made back in 2012 ( I have a tutorial here): Here are the 4 ATC cards I created to match the style and spirit of the suitcase: And here's a matchbox which contains fake handmade matches (used for there earbuds, dipped them in glue and then in brown embossing powder). Not very happy with the result, but for now it's the best version of the matches I could achieve: The tutorial for making this matchbox may be found here: The paper I used for creating this box was a plain white, I sprayed it with Distress Stain Sprays (Vintage Photo, Walnut Stain and Rusty Hinge), stamped it with an antique letter stamps and splatter stamps, created a couple of circle cup stain using a ring left from a roll of glue dots, just dipped it a bit in Distree Ink): The last is a mini album with tags (which I made back in 2012 as well): The sentiment used on the cover is from Tim Holtz and the wings are from Graphic 45 "Steampunk Spells" stamp set: Ups, forgot to antique the inside tags: The inside and outside covers of the mini album are painted with Tim Holtz "Clear Rock Candy" crackle paint: And here's another mini album I've recently finished (will post the pictures of it later on) and it fits perfectly inside the suitcase: It was a lot of work, but it was soo fun!! I hope you like this creation! Thanks for watching!

A superb 1930s or 1940s Travel Suitcase / Memory Box / Vintage Suitcase / Attache Briefcase / Vintage Briefcase / Vintage Attache Case / Stage Prop The case is rigid and has a leather handle on hinges. It is just like my dad's. He still has his in the wardrobe, looking a little battered now, but he has stored all his old photos and documents in there since he was young. The case measures 14 1/4 inches by 10 1/4 inches by 4 3/4 inches plus the handle. The name A Perry is written on the top. The case is in good condition with wear in keeping for the age, the base is a little worn and the lining has detached on one corner on the inside as can be seen in the pictures. It is nice and clean and in fine fettle for the age. The latch takes some persuasion if trying to operate it one handed. It would be a super addition to any collection, excellent display or practical piece or authentic period prop or stage prop. I started thinking about vintage suitcases like this one, and how they tell a story of where they have been. I have a collection of vintage suitcases and they are wonderful for storage. It seems that they are scarce and not many flea markets have them, so I thought it would be fun to offer a solution where you can make your own. These would also make a wonderful gift. From time to time I’ve seen these great cardboard versions of vintage suitcases. PaperSource actually has a wide variety of them at pretty affordable prices - these black suitcases range from $8.00 - $14.50 each. These would be great for storing photos, stationary and craft items. Lucky for me, I came across this DIY suitcase. It’s apparently made out of a Bisquick box! Who would of thought? Find the instructions here for this simple project. This project gives you so much more freedom, because you can use whatever boxes you have available to get the size you want, as well as fabric or paper that matches your color scheme, and it will cost next to nothing! I envision creating a stack of these suitcases and decorating them with vintage travel stickers which you can purchase at a very reasonable price at Hello Traveler. Or paint them with chalkboard paint and write a personal message and give them as a gift. I hope all of you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.

There's just something about the feel and look of old leather luggage. The patina and wear bring exotic places to mind. Who has carried it? Where were they going? Romance or business? Ingenue or seasoned traveler? This is a real, vintage suitcase; a Seapack made for the navy by Hartmann around WWII. It wasn't in the greatest condition which was fine by me because that made it perfect for an upcycle that I've wanted to do for a long time now. The Hemingway Desk I designed it to look like a vintage piece of campaign furniture yet function like a modern desk. All the wooden pieces were made from old, hardwood table leafs that I bought at a barn sale. When the drawer closes it becomes invisible, and looks like a piece of luggage on a stand. The sorter and upper shelf were designed to flip up into the lid. (The mechanics of this are harder than you'd think!) The lid closes so you can hide your messy desk when you're expecting company, and now you have a functional side table. Check out "Redoux Interiors" one of my favorite blogs.
