DRESSING THE ROOM PINTEREST I see them too. Magazines full of rooms with beautiful windows. Bare windows. But face it, bare is just not practical. HOUSE BEAUTIFUL At some point in the day you need to reduce the light in a room to prevent fading of fabrics, to protect art, floors, paint, furniture PINTEREST Then there is the privacy factor. Even if you live on acres and acres of land with no close neighbors it still feels a little creepy at night to have uncovered windows. HOUSE BEAUTIFUL But my #1 reason for draperies isn't either of these. It's quite simply - beauty. PINTEREST Having bare windows is like getting all ready for the party and forgetting the pretty dress. Draperies dress the window. PINTEREST They add texture or pattern, extend the color palette, add height. PINTEREST They can be functional and block light when you need them to, PINTEREST add privacy, PINTEREST color and texture PINTEREST or simply frame the view. PINTEREST They can make a window appear larger or taller, depending on how they are hung. PINTEREST They finish the room. PINTEREST My personal preference is window treatments that are simple and non-fussy, with good volume. PINTEREST I hate elaborate designs, drapes that don't quite reach the ground, or skimpy skinny panels. HOUSE BEAUTIFUL Simple doesn't mean, however, that they shouldn't feel luxurious. PINTEREST These curtains pull the rich warm red all the way to the ceiling... PINTEREST and although these drapes are neutral in color, they frame the windows and draw the eye to the mirror, the paneling, and up to the detailed dentil molding PINTEREST Functional as well as beautiful, these draperies protect beautiful rugs and upholstery from the sun's damaging rays, as well as creating the perfect focal point for this room PINTEREST and these accentuate the lovely high ceilings and tall windows PINTEREST In a bedroom, with 3 french doors for windows, they are essential for privacy and a little shut eye after the sunrise PINTEREST There are so many details you can add for that touch of elegance PINTEREST PINTEREST PINTEREST but whether custom, or store bought make sure they are lined and if necessary - interlined... so they don't look skimpy..
