L & P eloped this week at Deetjens Big Sur for their California elopement; they are high school sweethearts who have been together for years and wanted to explore Big Sur for the first time together on their road trip from Washington. I suggested Deetjens for its proximity to beautiful redwoods with overall charm. We started their wedding day with a quick cuddle in the cabin before having a first look in the redwoods; then, it was off to the cliffs and beach for a champagne toast at sunset.

Shape changing interfaces give physical shapes to digital data so that users can feel and manipulate data with their hands and bodies. However, physical objects in our daily life not only have shape but also various material properties. In this project, we propose "Materiable," an interaction technique to represent material properties using shape changing interfaces. Specifically, by integrating the multi-modal sensation techniques of haptics, our approach builds a perceptive model for the properties of deformable materials in response to direct manipulation without precise force feedback. As a proof-of-concept prototype, we developed preliminary physics algorithms running on pin-based shape displays. The system can create computationally variable properties of deformable materials that are visually and physically perceivable. In our experiments, users identify three deformable material properties (flexibility, elasticity and viscosity) through direct touch interaction with the shape display and its dynamic movements. Our research shows that shape changing interfaces can go beyond simply displaying shape allowing for rich embodied interaction and perceptions of rendered materials with the hands and body. Interieur van de kerk van H. Leonardus en gezellen aan de Koestraat (parochie Besterd), gesloopt in 1975. De kerk stond toen al drie jaar leeg en van het interieur was weinig heel gelaten. o.a. de gebrandschilderde ramen werden vernield. Het eerste raam in deze kerk werd geplaatst in 1902 en geleverd door de firma Stalins & Janssens uit Antwerpen. J. van Elderen, koster van de St. Jozefkerk (Heuvel) was vertegenwoordiger van deze firma voor Tilburg en omstreken. Enkele jaren later, in 1906, zijn glasramen geplaatst met de voorstelling van het H. Hart en O.L.V. van Lourdes. Ook het hoofdaltaar is in dat jaar geschonken door J. van de Heuvel. Het werd vervaardigd in het atelier van J. Kusters te Stratum.
