1-2-3 Come Do Some 100 Day Activities With Me When I celebrate 100 Days of school, I set up a variety of centers for my students. I like to involve a bit of art into at least one of their lessons, so I designed this “Cool To Be 100 Days Smarter” ice cream scoop craft, which involves coun...
Hi Friends! The 100th Day is right around the corner and I wanted to share with you some of my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE 100th day activities that I have accumulated over the years! First of all, an ABSOLUTE MUST is to get your entire hallway involved in the fun! We created this "grand entranceway" a couple years ago and the students went CrAzY for it! ( We just used a bed sheet, tempera paint, and some masking tape to hold it up!) My second MUST is to decorate your classroom door! Yes, of course there are going to be quadruple the number of bathroom and water fountain breaks as usual so that the kids can duck under the streamers...but so what...you knew this day wasn't going to be a normal day anyhow! Ok, this MUST will keep you laughing for days...YOU MUST DOWNLOAD AN AGING APP on your IPad or phone and age all your students darling faces...and yourself of course! (I used Aging Booth) I turn it into a Power Point presentation for the kids to watch. SO...MUCH...FUN! I know there are lots of "new" 100th day books out there, but I still adore these two oldies! (A serving of chocolate chip cookies is not required, but HIGHLY APPRECIATED when reading The Wolf's Chicken Stew, and I'll Teach My Dog 100 Words is the perfect intro for a "We Can Write 100 Words" class activity. This MUST is our favorite 100th day song. You can a copy of it FREE by clicking here. WARNING...This MUST is another GIGGLE producer!!! You need to make copies of a map of your school, ( I use the first floor of my building since that is where my classroom is located), and then have the students predict...using your classroom door as a starting point, where you will end up if 100 students lie down end to end. Then let the measuring begin!!! (Some years we have included other classes to make it equal 100, and some years we just keep getting up and repositioning ourselves.) Another MUST is to have your students use the number 100 and their imaginations to make a 100 Picture Masterpiece! My favorite math MUST for the day is Race For A Flat (sometimes called Race or Roll for 100) In this game the students roll two dice and gather that many base ten blocks. They can make trades for tens whenever possible. The goal is to continue to gather and trade blocks until someone reaches 100. The rest of my MUSTS include some fun writing activities, 100th day crowns, and certificates, many of which you can find in a great resource on TPT by Kerri B. from teacherbitsandbobs.blogspot.com I hope this post gave you some new ideas for this years 100th Day Celebration!

We have been getting ready for the 100th day of school in our classroom. We have been counting by 10s, by 5s, and by 1s to 100. We have been learning what 100 looks like. We have been exploring 100 in many ways... A yummy activity to practice counting to 100 by tens. If you would like to do this activity with your class, you can find it at Teachers Pay Teachers. Just click on the link or image below: Count-by-10-ice-cream-fun A class quilt to practice counting to 100 by fives. The kids were so excited about this when they came to school and it was all put together and up in the room. They spontaneously broke out into a chant counting. It was wonderful! This activity really helped solidify the concept that ten groups of ten make 100 for my little students. I got this idea from a pin that originally came from For the Love of Kindergarten http://kindergartenfreckleteacher.blogspot.com/2012/02/this-week-in-pictures-and-links-2-62-10.html She has some other fun ideas for 100 and lots of other cool stuff going on in her class last February. This was my take on the paint dots idea. Thanks Cindy! If you would like to get the printable shown in the photo above along with all sorts of other goodies for your class, you can get it here: Print and Go! 100 Days Math and Literacy (NO PREP). You can also do the dot painting this way too. It's fun to make 100 gumballs. This sheet is also in my Print and Go! 100 Days Math and Literacy (NO PREP) . All you have to do is make copies, put out the paint, and you're done! Easy peasy, lemon squeezy! We did the 100s chart puzzles a few days before the actual 100th day. I made them in several colors so that the kids could keep track of their pieces easier. And so that our bulletin board will be more colorful. Ha ha! This is one of the activities the kids did independently on the 100th day. Small groups worked together collaboratively to build a structure with 100 blocks. Looks Great! Another activity that kids had to do independently and collaboratively was to find the 100 hearts hidden around the classroom. They found all but three and worked together to put them in order. They needed 71, 84, and 86. They were hidden in the felt board area in the bag with the felt shapes. Tricky! The hearts are tipped because they were too pointy to stand straight in the pocket chart. Speaking of pocket charts, in this photo, mine sure looks old. Maybe it is time for a new one... We also had a center for the kids to make a bag with 100 snacks. Some teachers call this activity a trail mix. I call it snacks. We do a very simple version of it. I put each of the ten snacks out on a table. Students each have a baggie with their name written on it. They take turns going to each of the snacks and counting out 10 into the baggie. The kiddos were so excited to eat it at recess. Yippee! Each child got to make a special 100s day hat with 100 stickers on it. They look so cute wearing the hats in the classroom. Fun! The most challenging activity of our 100th day was writing about what you would do if you had $100. Most of my students this year decided to spend it. One or two decided to save it. One little boy said he would give it to his family. I thought that was sooooo sweet! Here are a couple of interesting ones: "I would buy a peecok." "I would bi a hol oshin!" I love the kids' drawing and writing! So cute. This prompt is so fun to see what their ideas are about. I do this every year for the 100th day. UPDATE JANUARY 2015: This year, I finally made the time to create all my favorite activities for the 100th day in a time saving, black and white ink saving, Print and Go! pack. Today is Handley's 100th day of school. It's hard to believe they have been in school for that long, but the Kindergarten classes are having a big 100th Day party toady including pizza, a movie, and crazy 100th Day hats. Last week we got a note about a project that each child should make. They were able to be creative and could have glued 100 times on a poster board, brought a bag with 100 things, etc. I jumped on Pinterest and found some really cute ideas. I showed them to Handley and being the over-achiever that she is, she said she was just having such a hard time deciding that she wanted to do more than one project. I talked her into picking her favorite and she settled on the fish bowl you see in the pictures. It's got 100 goldfish! She was sweet to let Harper help her count out the fish and glue everything on the poster board. Handley was so proud of her project and couldn't wait to take it to show her teachers today. You'd think our excitement for the day would end there, but no! After we pick her up at school today we will head to pick up Robby from work and then we are on our way to Florida to visit family, friends and Mickey!
Pronouns can be so tricky to teach and learn! I shared a photo of an anchor chart I made on Instagram for helping students to understand the concept of a pronoun. With help from TeacherspayTeachers - it received a little bit of l-o-v-e! I received some requests for a printable poster, and I am pleased to say you can download it from TpT HERE for FREE! I hope your students like it. I have started a little packet of printables that would be useful to accompany this and hope to have it finished next week. In other news, I have some new charts that will help your students track their progress towards 100 days at school! You can add a sticker to them each day and count forwards and back from 100. Once you get to the 100 days with your students, use this fun free activity to practice counting to 100 by tens! Thanks so much for stopping by today friends!
