"The Tulip Folly," by Jean-Léon Gérôme (1882) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 6.81" x 10.5") • 12" x 16" (Image: 9.13" x 14") • 16" x 20" (Image: 11" x 17") • 20" x 24" (Image: 16" x 24.5") • 24" x 30" (Image: 19" x 29.19") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK Gérôme illustrates an incident during the "tulipomania," or the craze for tulips, that swept the Netherlands and much of Europe during the 17th century. The tulip, originally imported from Turkey in the 16th century, became an increasingly valuable commodity. By 1636/7, tulipomania peaked, and, when the market crashed, speculators were left with as little as 5 percent of their original investments. In this scene, a nobleman guards an exceptional bloom as soldiers trample flowerbeds in a vain attempt to stabilize the tulip market by limiting the supply. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE ----------------------------- We will promptly address any issues that may arise with your order. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.

This 17th-century map of Renaissance Europe, done by cartographer Abraham Ortelius, was originally printed in 1608 as "Europam, Sive Celticam Veterem." It is beautiful wall decor for home or office. My fine art reproduction is printed in archival inks on Epson ultra-premium luster paper for lasting beauty. Map art prints are available in five different sizes: 8 x 10 inches, A4 (8.3 x 11.7 inches), 11 x 14 inches, A3 (11.7 x 16.5 inches), and 16 x 20 inches. They are shipped flat in a rigid mailer, except for the 16 x 20 inch size, which is rolled in a tube. Your art print arrives ready to frame and hang on your wall! SIZES: Larger prints offer better legibility of the map labels and text than smaller prints. In addition, the different length-to-width ratios of the various sizes of prints offered here result in slightly different crops of the artwork: An A3 print will look slightly different than a 16 x 20 inch print. PLEASE NOTE: This is a reproduction of a map that is hundreds of years old, and the image shows discoloration, foxing, and occasionally other damage to the original paper. The borders of the map may not be perfectly rectangular or parallel with each other. These add to the charm and antique appearance of your print. "Italian Landscape with Umbrella Pines," by Hendrik Voogd (1807) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.5" x 10.38") • 12" x 16" (Image: 10" x 13.81") • 16" x 20" (Image: 12.25" x 17") • 20" x 24" (Image: 14.5" x 20") • 24" x 30" (Image: 18" x 25") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK The setting sun casts long shadows over the verdant grounds of the Villa Borghese, a landscape garden in Rome. The artist, Hendrik Voogd, is nicknamed the “Dutch Claude Lorrain,” after 17th-century French exponent of ideal landscape painting. Both artists spent most of their lives in Rome. The Rijksmuseum comments, however, that although Voogd’s paintings “recall the Italianate pictures of the 17th century, the atmosphere lies closer to the Romantic art of the 19th century. In his broad vistas, poignant groups of pine trees, particularly stone pine, and rapid waterfalls he conveyed the grandeur of nature, yet without the golden glow in which the landscapes of his 17th-century predecessors bask. In Voogd’s work, the light is cooler and the depiction meticulously detailed, with barely discernable brushstrokes.” ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized.
