Galley of photographs from the Essex village of Tolleshunt Major and the Anglican Parish Church of St. Nicholas. Atop a hill to the east of the village, St. Nicholas' Church Tolleshunt Major is a splendid Grade I Listed building, offering views of the Blackwater Estuary. The church, dating back to the 12th century, showcases distinctive 15th and 16th-century alterations and additions, including a striking red Tudor brick tower credited to Sir Stephen Beckingham. Rev Ernest Geldart played a part in restoration work undertaken in the late 19th century. Geldart had a very interesting and distinguished involvement in church history in Essex, particularly in the decoration of St. Nicholas Church in Little Braxted. Geldart worked on several other churches including at Wickham Bishops. In 1544, King Henry VIII granted the name Tolleshunt Major to Stephen Beckenham, who, in turn, acquired various lands surrounding the village. Beckenham, erected a semi-fortified manor house, complete with a turreted gatehouse and enclosed by a red-brick boundary wall –"Beckingham House." Beckingham House was demolished in the late 18th century, however the gatehouse, stands with turrets and boundary wall still visible.

Monument to Thomas Corbet (d.1617) and his wife Anne. Originally erected in the chancel, but relocated to the north aisle after the Adams monument replaced it in its old position. A handsome church on the outskirts of Norwich's suburban sprawl, St Mary & St Margaret at Sprowston is a handsome church though has undergone significant post-medieval alteration, including a fine brick tower added in the 18th century. The whitewashed interior houses some remarkable monuments, the best being the elaborate piece to the right of the altar, whilst other impressive pieces from the latter part of the 16th century onwards can be found in the north aisle. www.norfolkchurches.co.uk/sprowstonmm/sprowstonmm.htm
