Good morning my peeps, I hope everyone had a great weekend and found some good books to read. Today I have for you a new release from Linda Thomas - Sundstrom. Lets check out BLOOD DEBT . BOOK BLURB Can a fortune teller truly predict the future? When fated mates meet on the hunt for a murderer, can police officer Adam Scott be saved from the killers, or will Tory McKidd come to his rescue because she has seen what can happen and will try to change their Fate? MY REVIEW When on the hunt for a murderer in a gang infested park Adam Scott , a police officer with the Miami police department, finds more than a murder suspect . He finds a woman who calls to him, who makes him feel just a little more . Tory Mckidd will she save him from the killers or will she try and change their fate that will bring them together or will the fates pull them apart The characters in this book are such a fun couple . Adam is a no nonsense type of guy who does his job well. When he meets the one for him things start to change in his life. He can't get her out of his mind and he can't stand not being around her and is trying to figure her out. Tory is a woman with secrets and one of them is that she is a psychic who is trying to figure out who killed her brother. She is a tough woman who doesn't want help from anyone but when Adam comes on the scene she can't help but protect him from what is going on in the park. This is a story that has a mystery and romance all in one . This is actually a retelling of a paranormal story that was turned into a great suspense story . Which actually works well, the author just has a way of writing that will keep you turning pages all night . Her characters are well written and complex an you can't help but love them. So if you want a good suspense story check it out

BOOK BLURB Desperado is a ghost town now, but are there ghosts?Arizona local Madeline is in search of the spirit of her dead mother on Desperado's streets, but a handsome ex-Texas ranger named Hunter might get in her way. As Desperado's new caretaker, Hunter seeks peace and some alone time. He won't get either once Madeline rides into town... and villains follow. MY REVIEW Welcome to Desperado, a ghost town in the Arizona desert, a town that holds a memory of the past for one young woman and also a safe haven for a man that needs a new shot at life . Madeline is in a search for her the spirit of her dead mother , when she runs into the handsome Texas ranger named Hunter. He is wanting peace and quiet and some alone time but once he comes face to face with Madeline things will never be the same. Villains show up but they aren't expecting a pack of wolves to save the ghost town . In this prequel we get to have more time with our favorite werewolves. We get to see a closer at my fav wolf pack. Madeline is such a free spirit , she wants to find out what happened to her mother as she can see ghosts. She is sweet and tough when push comes to shove. Hunter is well he is kind of a loner, he is trying to work out a few things when he comes to Desperado as the care taker. But, life throws him a curve ball when Madeline rides into his life and kind of sets him on his butt. He comes off as gruff but deep down he is a sweet guy who will take on the responsibilities of helping out the small band of wolves that live near the town. This is a prequel story of how the town became the sanctuary for those that need a place to be themselves . The characters are so well written and complex, you will love them . The author paints a picture of an old western town with everything from tumbleweeds to the ghosts that haunt the place. If you are looking for a book that has, romance, bad guys oh and ghosts . This novella is for you . You can read it in an evening and love every part of it. So fall in love with Desperado and all that live there.

My Wednesday finish was this mini quilt with the paper pieced butterflies. This was a kit from Shabby Fabrics that I couldn't resist because I love the bright colors. In the photo the top butterflies look larger and the bottom of the quilt looks much narrower than the top. Guess I took the photo from a strange angle. All 4 butterflies are exactly the same 6" size blocks. Sometimes the back of a project is too pretty to hide on the back. The kit included this gorgeous Kaffe print for the back. I used it, but was also happy there was a little of it left. And that little piece of the backing was just enough to make Kitty block #30.

By Jean Baker Organizing for the women’s suffrage parade planned for 23 October 1915 in New York had taken months. By this time leaders of the New York movement were practiced at arranging such popular spectacles in a state that would be a significant prize, with parades its most effective, opinion--changing tactic. Finally--nearly seventy years after the Seneca Falls Convention and its call for women’s suffrage-- the momentum seemed to be shifting.
Happy birthday to TWO of my grandchildren today!! Olivia and Jonah turn 11 today. The twins were born during a brutal ice storm that hit eastern South Dakota, but today looks like a delightful spring day of sunshine and temps in mid 60s. Yesterday morning I had some good quiet uninterrupted sewing time before it was time to get ready to leave to attend an orchestra concert where the 2 grandkids with birthdays were involved. The pink butterfly is all done. This one has a LOT fewer pieces than the yellow one did, so it was a fairly quick block to sew. The blue and purple butterflies are all ready to sew today - hopefully. The colors in this mini quilt are what drew me to buy the kit. These are such bright spring colors. They are happy colors. The other 3 yellow versions of the 16-patch churn dash blocks came together quickly too. Those little 16-patch units were made at the February retreat. I have a green one all ready to sew as well. There are now 4 completed yellow blocks and 4 completed purple blocks. One green and 1 red are done too. I'll work on those previous colors a little at a time. I cut the parts for 2 of the Dutchman's Puzzle blocks, and got one of them sewn. These are using batiks for the colors, and scrappy white-on-white backgrounds. All of the blocks will have aqua (in various shades) paired with the RSC color of the month. The plan is to make 2 each month. My plan today is to sew this morning, handle some chores this afternoon, and watch Survivor while binding a quilt this evening. Should be a good day.

Everyone was scared, some even more about that than what was going on in the north. It was confusing, I’ll tell you that.” The old man sat, looking out of the window as he spoke to his grandson. He put a hand on him, gripping him tight. “You see, in those days, nobody had a clue what was going on. It was chaos. There was a country, the most powerful and biggest and baddest of them all. But nobody knew it, it was a sleeper state. They stayed that way for a hundred years or more, can’t remember. Really, they waited out the second strongest country.” He looked again at his grandson. “You know what countries those were?” His grandson stopped looking out of the window to think about it, squinting, searching his mind for the answer. “I think it was Russia and Canada. Right?” “Almost. You’re close. It was Russia and the United States.” He took a breath. “Of America.” He took another breath; it was a heavy thought on him. “They, I mean Russia, they held out. They won. It was the long game America never understood. We all kept burning everything, day and night. Oil, gas, coal, you name it. And that melted the whole damned planet. Parts of America fell under water. And parts of Canada and Russia became habitable by people, because the snow melted and never came back. Permafrost thawed and new land came to be in the north. Should have known if you had to hunt for whales to harvest oil it’s probably not a good idea.” “Oil came from whales, grandpa? Really?” “The first of it anyway. You see, back in the eighteen hundreds. Then they found other stuff, deep down in the Earth. We pumped it and burned it for two, not even three hundred years I think, I can’t remember. Anyway, where was I?” “Russia and the United States.” “Oh. Right. Well, they did it, you see. The Russians burned too, but they burned with a purpose. The sea ice of the Arctic had to melt, they thought, so they could send ships across, it was, and would have been, the quickest way to Canada. And from there, the US. So once enough ice melted, they sent ships, filled with people, across the ocean. And they filled Canada up. You see, Russia and Canada weren’t much different. Terrain wise. Both were cold, barren countries. The people took harsh conditions, they were good at that. So the thought wasn’t crazy, move from one cold place to another.” “But they were melting grandpa.” “That’s right. They were. Which is why they did it. They wanted to infiltrate Canada, which bordered the US. So, when the time came, they had a sleeper cell of a million or so Russians at the US border, ready for it.” “Ready for what grandpa?” Universal Book Link About A.J. What's on your design wall today? https://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/ My design wall this week was screaming for something that felt like spring. So I pulled out a kit for a paper pieced mini quilt with 4 colorful butterflies. I began with the yellow butterfly, partly because yellow is the Rainbow Scrap Challenge color for April. But also, the yellow one came first because it had the most pieces. Each of the others (pink, aqua, purple) have slightly fewer pieces in those wings. The parts for the pink butterfly are all ready for today's sewing. There are also pieces cut for a couple more of the 16-patch churn dash blocks and a couple of Zipper blocks. I've chosen fabrics for the 2 Dutchman's Puzzle blocks with aqua and yellow for this month. And once the binding is done that I'm working on, it will be time to choose another UFO to move forward and closer to finished. OFF my design wall is Olivia's costume for her school musical. I'm so relieved that the alterations worked out, and it fits her nicely. For the play she'll have big bows in her hair, made from the same brocade as the cushion and curled to look like dog ears. FYI - she's a dog that turns into an ottoman in Beauty and the Beast. My project goals for this week: ** finish binding on Twinkle Stars quilt ** quilt a few more hearts on Sew Together ** more yellow blocks for RSC collections ** choose next UFO to work on ** go through more scraps from the Big Grey Tote
