How often do you find yourself stuck wearing the same outfits? Struggling with what to buy or what to wear? Or, randomly buying different pieces only to wear them once, the same way, or never even take the tags off? If picking out your outfit is more of a headache and figuring out your style i
We enjoyed a wonderful Friday evening with great friends at Gourmet and Company, our favorite restaurant in Johnson City. There's nothing better than spending three hours engaged in lively conversation while having excellent food and superb service. The bag is by Nine West from Ross. The Steve Madden heels are from Nordstrom. This vintage St. John knit jacket was another gift from my dear friend Mitzi. I am wearing it over a black tank and black pieced faux leather front leggings, both from Chico's. Below is the daytime look for Friday. The jeans I wore during the day yesterday and the leggings I wore to dinner last evening taught me a lesson. I used to wait for sales to shop, but now I know if I want great fitting basic pieces that I will enjoy wearing for years to come, I need to shop often but selectively at the beginning of the season to get my size. The jeans in my size from the day look and the leggings from the evening look are now completely sold out in all sizes (company-wide!). The second lesson is to buy jeans with a bit of stretch in size smaller. In two hours you will be so glad you did.
Today I am sharing how to go from Frumpy to Fabulous in 5 Easy Steps. Tips and strategies for how to dress for your body type and look chic.
There have been countless comments about my shoes in previous posts, so today, I will show you the same look again and again with different shoes and a different bag. (That is the only thing that changes.)This exercise will show you how easy it is to adjust a look to fit your desired shoe style and heel height. These animal print flat loafers are by Vince Camuto, and the bag is by Coach. These metallic wedge sandals are by Kenneth Cole Reaction. The straw clutch bag is old from T.J.Maxx. These Børn loafers have about a one-inch heel. The Tignanello bag is old from Stein Mart. These Vince Camuto cork platform heels with ponyskin animal print uppers are old from Nordstrom. The Alberta di Canio handbag is from T.J.Maxx. The half-tucked white top and the jeans are from Chico's. The belt is by Ralph Lauren via Belk.
We love to spend the weekend in Asheville, at the Inn at Biltmore. They have a very nice Spa, shops, several dining options, a piano bar, and a library. Mr. Mickey also owns a company, which means our vacations are typically taken in three-day increments. Since the weather was predicted to be warm and pleasant this weekend, we decided to take advantage of it. My look for traveling and stopping in downtown Asheville for lunch included an impressive pair of Svelte leggings, my I.C. Collection faux suede trench coat from ShopMyFairLady, a silver tank top (coat not removed), and a large square silk scarf by Versace from Saks Off 5th. Svelte supplied these leggings. The opinions are my own. The wine-colored bag and the Nine West booties are from Saks Off 5th. Despite having a high heel, these boots are very comfortable. They are perfect to wear with leggings. We had to stop for Canadain Geese crossing the road on the way to the Inn. The view from our room on the fifth floor. I never tire of seeing mountains! I wore this brand of leggings from Svelte.com for the first time this weekend. I love the way they fit and flatter my figure! They are well worth the investment. I will be taking these with me to California later this week. They will be perfect for the photoshoot for Covered Perfectly! Svelte supplied these leggings. The opinions are my own. These leggings have a built-in tummy control panel. Svelte products are made of highly stretchy knit fabric that holds you comfortably but firmly. I put leggings in the same way I do pantyhose to keep the seams strong and straight. To preserve the shape, color, and size, they must be machine washed cold or hand washed and hung to dry. Do not put them in the dryer. These tips apply to all fine knits.
I love shopping at Amazon so today I'm sharing with you all of my recent Amazon outfits and finds for April 2023.
The person you see in the first photo is very unhealthy and unhappy with her body image on all levels. That's me in the Spring of 2011. Spring 2011 Fast forward a year to the second photo. After I lost more than forty pounds! Spring 2012 I was about to outgrow size 12 pants in the first photo. In the second photo, I'm comfortably wearing size 4 pants. In 2010, I averaged two migraines per week. I rarely have a headache now, and the inflammation of joints that caused pain with every movement is gone. A backache that kept me from enjoying working in my flower gardens is gone. I no longer take medications of any kind. My lab test results are now perfect. Everyone who sees me for the first time in a few months is amazed at my transformation. Of course, the first question is, "How did you lose so much weight so fast?" My answer is always, "Read the book "Eat To Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman" to learn what to eat and why. ~~~~~~~~~~~ I have continued maintaining my weight since 2011. ~~~~~~~~ While researching the world's healthiest foods, I found many of them in what I have for breakfast every morning. This is a hot cereal breakfast that keeps me from thinking about food until late afternoon. I'm sharing the recipe along with my story in hopes that I can inspire you to be a healthier, happier, more energetic person. Susan's Power Porridge Breakfast 1 cup of hulled, organic barley (soak overnight and cook for one hour). Use filtered water. 1/4 cup of organic farro (cook for 40 minutes) 1/4 cup of brown organic lentils (add to the farro and cook for another twenty minutes) 1/4 cup of old-fashioned organic rolled oats (cook for about 10 minutes.) 2 Tablespoons brown flax seeds (I grind them in a coffee grinder) Stir as soon as you add these ground seeds. 2 Tablespoons sunflower seeds and sesame seeds 2 Tablespoon of raw organic pepitas (no shell pumpkin seeds) 2 Tablespoons natural raw walnuts 2 Tablespoons raw pecans 1 tablespoon of turmeric 1 tablespoon of Red Star Nutritional Yeast (Not brewer's yeast.) It supplies B vitamins. Add cinnamon, ginger, allspice, nutmeg, or ground cloves to taste. 4 Large dates (pits removed) cut in half, then diced 1 sliced banana and 1/4 cup of blueberries or any fresh fruits you like. Cooking instructions: Cook the barley in a separate pot uncovered. Add as much cooked barley as you want to the cooked farro, lentils, and oatmeal. The other items are added as desired until warmed through. Put in a bowl and add the fruit. You can save any extra to warm up for another breakfast. (You may find these items on Amazon.com or BobsRedMill.com if unavailable in your area.) Packed with high nutrition, this breakfast will help you feel satisfied well into the afternoon. It's been more than twelve years since I began this journey. I haven't had so much as a cold since I started eating this breakfast, followed by a sizeable vegetable-loaded salad late in the day. I drink water and eat fresh, in-season fruits and vegetables daily. I still share a dessert with Mr. Mickey occasionally and have a glass of wine with food. But, 90% of the time, I eat whole-natural foods that have not been processed in any way other than perhaps being steamed. So, mostly, I just wash, chop, and enjoy. Countless people have asked me, "How do you continue to keep the weight off?" This is my secret!

Many of the fashion trend reports for spring are showing checks. Ah, spring... will it ever arrive? We still have several inches of snow, with more on the way, so we are showing you these lovely blouses from the comfort of my kitchen. These beautiful blouses were sent to me by Foxcroft. This elegant black and white check blouse is so light and airy it will be comfortable to wear all summer long. Tabs keep the sleeves in place when you turn them up. I love this feature!

There is a new style of top from Covered Perfectly. Have you seen it? It has a V-neck and three-quarter length sleeves and the longer hem length we all love. This one comes in four colors. You can buy this top here. The material is as soft as butter and drapes across the body beautifully.
When we travel, I take a few items that work together instead of pack outfits that may or may not be successful when we arrive at our destination. A few great accessories always help to create unique combinations. For several days, we will be traveling to attend a unique wedding. There will be lots of walking, sightseeing, shopping, exploring old downtown, and eating out. All of these events will be very casual. One of my personal packing rules is always trying on everything I am taking to make sure it looks the way I think it will look. There is nothing worse than getting ready for that special event only to find that the shoes you brought to go with your pants are too low to bring the hem off the floor. Today I am sharing the looks I plan to create from the items shown above on the rolling rack. Below, I am wearing the tunic with jeans and sandals, all from J.Jill. The satchel is from JMcLaughlin. The crinkle cotton tunic is so lightweight I could wear it even on a sweltering day. My apologies for the odd colors in these photos. The camera takes on an agenda of its own when we have to shoot inside and use the flash. The gala sand-washed tunic will work with all of the pants. The white long sleeve tee is very lightweight, so I can wear it with the vest and the white jeans when we go out to dinner. The pieces shown above can be worn in many combinations according to the weather and where we are going. I am just showing you a few of the ways I plan to wear them. My look for the wedding will include the swing blouse by IC Collection over a tank by Clara Sunwoo and white pants by Lior Paris. All these items were a gift from ShopMyFairLady.com. The silver clutch is old from T.J.Maxx. The silver sandals are old by BCBGeneration. The life-changing Ultimate Back Smoothing Bra & Body Shaper is by Shapeez.com. I will be buying the black one and will be wearing these for the rest of my life. This is the first bra/shaper item I have ever worn that is so comfortable you forget you have it on, and it actually smooths your midsection and back without being hot. Epic! Here is a video also!

What To Wear in Summer 2024 Over 50
On the last day of our Martha Washington Inn visit, we had a leisurely late breakfast before taking a long drive through the country on our way home. Two weddings were held at the Inn this weekend, so there were abundant flowers everywhere. I wore a fuchsia washable linen boxy shirt with a tie front and a longer back from Chico's for the drive home. Shoes by Sam Edelman. The pull-on smooth fit khaki pants are by Fabrizio Gianni. The super-comfortable pants are made in the USA. I hope you have enjoyed the photos from our weekend getaway and that we gave you some ideas for what to wear during your own fun times. More adventures coming soon!

HELLO, FRIDAY!!! Are you as excited as I am to see Friday roll around? The days have all blurred together because I was gone last weekend, and I didn’t come back to Virginia until Tuesday. I feel like I am trying to catch up, but I’m not sure what I’m chasing. Lol! Last night, I...

Many of you have asked for tips on what to wear in warm weather. Here in east Tennessee, we rarely have the hot, humid weather I experienced while I lived near New Orleans. This loose, thin, almost sheer blouse is a Portofino blouse from Express. I have them in many colors and wear them throughout the summer with faded jeans, white jeans, and khaki pants. I buy them in a larger size than I normally wear to be roomy enough in the bust. On this day, I was on my way to the grocery store. The ankle-length slim leg jeans are from Chico's. The wedge sandals are by Antonio Melani via the sale rack at Dillard's last fall. The bag is by Alberta di Canio, and I bought it at T.J.Maxx last year. The Kenneth Cole sunglasses are also from T.J.Maxx.

When the wind blows, we give up shooting a photo, which is where we were when Mr. Mickey snapped this one last photo before going inside. I didn't know he was still shooting when I turned around while holding my hair out of my face. Totally candid shots sometimes work best. I am at a bit of a loss when we must dress very casually for a summer event. I never wear a tank top and shorts with flip flops, which I see most often at such events. That just isn't my personality. I would not be comfortable at all. We attended a National Car Show for the Ford Fairlane held at the MeadowView Conference Resort & Convention Center in Kingsport, TN. This lightweight crepe blouse is very cool and comfortable, so I wore it half-tucked with ankle-length jeans, both from Chico's. The sandals are old from Vince Camuto. The woven natural material (some sort of large grass) clutch is from T.J.Maxx. The brown and gold embossed croc belt is by Ralph Lauren. Mr. Mickey's best friend, Bob, had one of his many antique cars on display, and it was the highest-scoring car in the show! We have been asked if we are brother and sister in the past. What do you think? It was a fun trip down memory lane to look at all the old cars and visit friends.

Never let it be said that my look is predictable. You don't often see me in a dress, but today I am showing you a versatile one. It can take you through three seasons and can be worn in a variety of ways. We had high humidity and heat on Sunday, so I surrendered and let my hair air dry on its own without the aid of a blow dryer and large round brush. I also wore an easy-breezy soft, lightweight chambray dress from Foxcroft. I will wear this comfortable and cool dress with sandals and minimal jewelry in the hot summer months. When the temperatures drop, I will layer the dress with a slim-fitting black tank, leggings, boots, and a low slung belt for a bit of spice. These leggings are actually Calvin Klein yoga style pants for workouts. They have three little gold buttons at the back. I appreciate clothing that can serve more than one purpose. I wear two sizes larger on the top half of my body, so when I buy a dress to fit my shoulders and bust, the rest of the dress is quite billowy. This is the main reason you often see me wearing a tank, pants, and jacket or cardigan combo. I have several favorite pieces from Foxcroft that have served me well for several years. This dress will be part of my wardrobe for a long while, not only because of the high quality but also because of the classic, versatile style.
