This remarkable vase, because of its size and complexity, is regarded as an outstanding example of Norwegian Art Nouveau enamel work. The bowl, which is executed in red and green plique-à-jour enamel shows the leaves and flowers of the peony, supported by two stems with leaves and blossoms of the same flower rising from an enameled base. Gaudernack trained in Vienna, but moved to Oslo in 1891. Initially, he worked for the glass house, Christiania Glasmagasin. He joined the silver firm of David Andersen in 1892 and by 1895 he had become the firm's major designer, a position he held until 1910. He began working in various historical revival styles, but soon adopted the Norwegian dragon style echoing Viking motifs. By the late 1890s, Gaudernack had fallen under the influence of the Art Nouveau style and between 1900 and 1908 he established his reputation with large, plique-à-jour, Art Nouveau pieces such as this vase. As was his practice, this piece has been created in parts and then assembled. A drawing for the vase, now said to belong to the Norwegian Embassy in Washington, D.C., is dated 1904, suggesting a date of 1904/05.
In yoga and meditation, the lotus position signifies stability, balance, and spiritual alignment. The lotus flower's unfolding petals are seen as a metaphor for the expansion of the soul and the unfolding of spiritual consciousness, symbolizing creation and rebirth.

Welcome to Switchplate Depot! I have made custom light wallplates for almost 20 years. I recently made the decision to add offer my craft on Etsy! All of my switchplates and outlet covers are handcrafted by me using a variety of material - fabric, wallpaper, art work etc. The material is decoupaged onto the plate, and then sealed and covered for a nice, durable finish that can be wiped clean, if necessary. These plates do meet code standards for personal home use. Each plate is custom made, after the buyer purchases the item. My plates are plastic or vinyl. These are a GREAT alternative to the much more expensive metal plates. For some patterns, I do not cut out all of the screw holes if they will violate the image. Plates will hang fine with minimum screws. Screws are included. Since I am in the process of uploading my plates to Etsy, you may see blank white plates when you are trying to choose your plate. PLEASE NOTE THAT ALL WHITE PLATES REPRESENT THE PLATE YOU WILL RECEIVE AND WILL BE COVERED WITH THE LISTING'S DESIGN. If you want a certain plate OR a certain design - all you have to do is ask! While on my other selling site, I have had other buyers send me their designs for years. Thank you so much! The lotus flower in Indian culture symbolizes spiritual purity and enlightenment. Rising from the murky depths, it remains pristine, representing the ability to emerge untainted from challenging circumstances, signifying spiritual growth, and the journey from darkness to illumination.
Donna con ventaglio Item # 2519455 Gustav Klimt Gustave Klimt (1862-1918) is widely regarded as one of the most talented artists of the 20th century. Born in Austria and one of the founders of the Vienna Secession, his unique and beguiling style spans from Byzantium art to Expressionist-inspired portraits. Klimt is best known for The Kiss (1907). It's a profoundly symbolic and highly sensual piece. Klimt augmented the oil canvas painting of converging lovers with metals, including platinum, silver, and gold leaf. The effect is an extraordinary piece that is impossible to forget. Gustav Klimt in Context To fully understand the timeless work of Gustav Klimt, we need to place him within his context. The Vienna of the late 19th century was a conservative and uptight place. Victorian-era social and moral attitudes, such as modesty, family values, and sexual oppression abounded. Klimt initially worked within this framework. However, his work was deeply symbolic and often explored erotic themes and the female body. His choice of theme and subject matter can be viewed as a rejection of the Viennese social mores of his time. While classical and naturalistic styles were popular in this period, Klimt went in the other direction. He sought to express dreams and sensuality, though his rebellion caused much consternation at the time. Indeed, his last public commission — the paintings Philosophy, Medicine and Jurisprudence — were savaged for their perceived lewdness. Characteristics of Gustav Klimt wall décor Seen through a modern-day prism, the work of Klimt does not appear overly sexual or crude. As he matured, he turned his gaze towards landscapes and, on occasion, society women draped in fur and adorned with gold leaf. For many, this era represents the peak years of his output. However, despite shifts in style, some constants remain. In particular, spirals, swirls, gold embellishments, and thinly disguised psychosexual imagery are all hallmarks of Klimt's inimitable style. What spaces suit Gustav Klimt wall art? While Klimt's approach was very forward-looking, his art is rooted in a particular time and space. Gustav Klimt wall décor can work in a variety of rooms. The style, especially his portraits, retain enough connection to early 20th-century realism that they work in almost any environment. However, his more Byzantium or Orientalist-inspired pieces can fight for space within the most opulent rooms.
