The 19th century Bee Shelter in the village of Hartpury, Gloucestershire, is unique. Made of Cotswold stone, it consists of 28 compartments known as 'boles' which housed skeps (straw or wicker baskets) in which the bees congregated. Skeps were widely used until the arrival of the wooden hive in the mid-19th century. The Bee Shelter is in St Mary's churchyard in the village.
