If you're like most homeowners we know, you're concerned about your home's value. Who wouldn't be? When you're a DIY-er, you have a power that not everyone has - the ability to actually raise the value of your property, without causing your wallet severe pain. But we want to encourage you to be savvy, because not every DIY project out there is actually going to be helpful to your home & property's bottom line value. Some of them may even lower what it will be worth. This is critical to know, if one of the reasons you are sprucing it

Years ago, we added a ledge to our bathroom window. I loved it until we started to bump our heads on it when we sat on the stool. Then I ended up hating the window after I had the bright idea on adding the shutters. This bathroom gets dirty and hairy...yes, I said hairy! With 3 ladies in the house, we all tend to lose hair. Hairspray doesn't help matters either. Another con is that it is adjoined to the laundry room. So, I think you understand how dirty this room can get. Here is a before photo from my phone before we started on making the window over. Those topiary's needed to say bye bye too! Starting to add the trim...what a mess! You can see what color the bathroom was before many many moons ago. A dark green that looked almost black! This window ended up costing about $45 to trim out. I want to do the rest of our windows throughout, but I think I'll take it slow. Doing one at a time. It will add up fast if I'm not careful. But it sure did make a huge difference, didn't it? I still need to paint the walls and the beadboard, but a little touch up will have to do for now. We all said the same thing...how it made the room look larger and the window definitely looks way bigger too. I cleaned my butt off, washing down the walls, trim, shower curtains and window shade. I even cleaned the ceiling fan and the ceiling. Definitely a long over do list....but at least it's clean and pretty now. Since we are in the bathroom, I'll show you the rest... I love how big the room is...makes it so nice when there are 3 of us in here trying to get ready. I put on my make up here because of the natural light. People are always amazed at just how big it really is. I'm so glad my mom planned it that way when she was building this house. I grew up using a bathroom that was so tiny, your knees could almost touch the sink! I added the trim over the shower curtain awhile back. It has grown on me...I didn't like it too much when I first did it. Both ways were pretty, but the make over is more practical and cleaner! No more hairspray build up on the shutters along with all that hair. My life as a mom just got easier!

Here she is, my 8 x 24' tiny house. The interior measures 8 x 18'. My little shabby chic tiny retreat. When I sit in my home it is like being wrapped in a hug. So cozy, so sweet. So perfect. I dressed her in pink and white for the holidays and the theme " I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas" seems fitting. Looks like it is going to be a white Christmas I am a boot aholic Looking in the front door My nook on the left, WC - water closet on the right My guest loft, fits 2 twin beds, a queen bed or a single bed with extra space for storage The view from my master loft My faux fireplace sits in front of my built in wall heater Fireplace mantle made from an old chippy door Lots of mirrors in the tiny house to reflect light Bunting made by Michelle of Back Through Time, on Etsy My guest loft Peeking through a chandelier is fresh garland from my yard Chandelier adds charm to my reading nook View through the mirror I have a collection of angels through out my tiny house Looking out toward the kitchen from the nook area Looking toward the kitchen and master loft from the nook area Faux vintage ornaments mixed with real vintage crystals My pretty little tree I choose ornaments to reflect light The view from my reading nook Private and cozy spot for a nap My comfy chase My $2.00 vintage medicine cabinet re purposed as a spice cabinet View of the kitchen Pink rag rug from Target - Fresh holiday garland Ready for the Christmas party Mercury glass and silver bulbs reflect light to make a tiny space sparkle Hand painted sign by Rose Cottage Chic I like to mix vintage, whimsy and flea market finds W I S H - Christmas Tree topper Getting ready for my "I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas" party Before I purchased my tiny house I had an idea of how I wanted to decorate it. I was hugely inspired by a stylist named Sandra Foster who has the most amazing tiny house in the world, at least to me. I prefer it over any tiny home that I have ever laid eyes on. It is by far my favorite tiny house and blog ever. Her talent and style has inspired women all over the world. Her tiny studio has been in tons of magazines books and on television shows. I hung Christmas lights in my master loft and also used white fabric draped from the ceiling as a sort of ' knock-off', style of Sandy's adorable cottage in the Catskills. I want to take the time here to recognize her and hope that she sees my little knock off loft look, as a form of flattery and know that I acknowledge her as the queen of shabby cottage décor. Thanks for inspiring me, to try a similar look for my little shabby chic girl cave and retreat. A very special THANKS to two special and talented lady's who's crafts and art work helped to make my little tiny house more festive this holiday season. Jill from Rose Cottage Chic painted the adorable pink sign with roses that says - I'm dreaming of a pink Christmas that I hung in my window above my table. She mixed her own milk paint recipe for my sign. She has an amazing website and also does custom orders. I also want to thank Michelle, who made the little bunting (the hand made W-I-S-H letters) that are vintage style, which I hung against the mirror above my fireplace. She also made my sweet W-I-S-H vintage tree topper. It is a pleasure to do business with people that are so pleasant, who provide incredible personalized customer service. I also loved the thoughtful gift wrap (below picture) that my order arrived in. Michelle has an Etsy shop called Back through time with gifts for all seasons and for absolutely no reason. Both women have wonderful hand made crafts. Gift wrapped order from, Back through time Bunting made by Back through time, available on Etsy My Christmas tree topper I also wanted to include some very interesting information about the color pink which I found on Debbie's site. By the way, Debbie bought a 320 square foot home from Scott of Slabtown Customs, who is the same builder that built my tiny house. Look around her blog once you are there to see more of her sweet little family home. May you be blessed this holiday season. Merry Christmas. Tonita This post is shared with - Marlyn's Treats
I love my bed! Today I finally put the ruffled bed skirt I ordered months ago, on my bed. It's so perfect. I really don't know why I waited so long. I am sure if your into looking at the decorating blogs you probably have seen this bed skirt before, used as a table cloth too ( I also have another as a table cloth). But you may wonder how mine seems to have so many more ruffles. Well it's because I used two of the bed skirts. Then you may wonder then how I was able to get enough separation to layer the two bed skirts. So I will show you. First I put the bed skirt over the box springs like normally you would do with a bed skirt. I just have bed box springs on the ground not lifted up by any frame, because I do not like little bunny Fufu to go under by bed all the time. Also I have so many memory foam mattress pads on my bed it would be to tall if the box springs were lifted at all. Having the box springs on the floor is what gives the ruffles the hanging on the floor look. In my guest bedroom I have this same bed skirt ( only one though) and the bed is lifted in that room and the bed skirt does not touch the ground, so it really depends on the look you want, I think I like hanging on the floor better but the guestroom bed skirt looks good also. Then I put my mattress on top of the box springs and put the 2nd bed skirt over it instead of a sheet. Now here my bed still looks too short. My secret is all the memory foam mattress pads I put on next. All the memory foam makes the bed so comfy you litterly sink in. My moms says its hard to get back up after you lay in my bed because you sink in so much Lol. But I love it, its so comfy. After I put all the memory foam back on (like 6 or 7 layers of it) I put on the sheet over all the memory foam rather then over the mattress which is being covered by the 2nd bed skirt.. That's how I create the look of so many ruffles. Link to where you can get the bedskirt Then when its all done, and all my layering is complete, you can't tell at all that the bed is just sitting on the ground, because it is plenty high enough. The pink bedding is also new, I found it yesterday at Goodwill it is a part of the line " Simply Shabby Chic " By Rachel Ashwell my favorite designer. My other bedding is also apart of this line and I am still keeping it too. But I am just going to switch back and forth while I'm washing one or the other. Which will be great because my bed is a king, & it's always hard to wash my comforter. It barely fits in the washer, and does not get dry in the dryer, so I hang it out to dry but it takes two or three days to do so. So it will be wonderful to have two bed spreads now. Whats so neat about my new comforter is its reversable! The problem is I can't decide which side I like better, I love both sides. I think I am a tid bit leaning to the first side that I showed in first picture, but then again I don't know because the other side goes almost perfect with the shower curtain in Master bathroom When you are laying in the bed you can see down into the master bathroom, and its looks nice with the comfter and shower curtain almost being matching but not quite exactly the same. My shower curtain is also a part of the same line as the bedding. Picture above being side one picture below being side, two which side of the comforter do you think is better? I just love how long carnations last. This one is one from my blue ball jar full in the kitchen that I showed in a picture I put on my countertop post two weeks ago. I must have bought these flowers like 15 or 16 days ago and they still look great! Oh and isn't this little pink bottle I found at Goodwill the other day just adorable? I had to lock Bella & Lacie out while I was taking the pictures for this post, meanwhile they were scratching at the door. They always want to be in the pictures Lol, so I let them in to take a few pics hehe they are so cute. I love my girls. I guess all that scartching at the door tired them out. I took these photos just now as I am laying here with them in bed, doing this post. Sleepy Lacie. Click To Follow Me Parties I love!! Hello everyone, I hope your week is going well. It was a beautiful sunny day so a perfect day to have tea in the sunroom. The sunroom has a cupboard full of pink and white china. It is warm and sunny in here. I am looking forward to my geraniums blooming again after wintering in the basement.I am slowly starting to take them up for more light and heat. My old cupboard holds a mix of vintage china with a few new ones mixed in. I probably should be purging some of my china .....but that seems to be hard for me! Do you have a china addiction too? Vintage china with a few new pieces mixed in. Thank you for visiting me in our little sunroom today. Take care, Carolyn

**** Please note that these mobiles are all hand made and made-to-order. Please take a look at my shipping time frame to be sure it works with your timing.**** Thanks so much!! This vintage shabby chic style baby girl mobile is made with lots of ribbon, lace, pom poms, flowers, canvas quotes, beads, etc. (If you are interested in this as a dream catcher, there are a couple of photos at the end that show it transformed into one, and there is another listing in my shop for the dream catcher.) The mobile can be customized with a name if you'd like - the 2nd photo shows an example. I will add the name on three different strips of muslin and place them in different areas of the mobile for balance. They are all hand stamped with brown ink. If you would like to add a name, you can add it to the note section when checking out. Most of the material has been lightly tea stained for a soft vintage look. The colors are soft pink, cream, white, ivory and tan. If you would like to customize the colors, that is possible, just send me a message. There are so many different elements to this mobile, but here's a list of some of the things included: *white and tan hand made muslin flowers, with the tan flowers lightly tea stained *hand made tan and white muslin pom poms, with the tan pom poms lightly tea stained *pink and tan fabric flowers - these flowers have been tea stained and lightly distressed and they have a really pretty vintage look to them *muslin and seam binding bows, some have been left natural and some tea stained *tea stained lace ribbon *tea stained tulle ribbon *muslin ribbon *canvas quotes with hanging crystal bead - with the following sayings: -sweet baby girl -once upon a time -sweet dreams -you take our breath away I print each of these quotes myself so it's possible to customize the sayings. If you are interested in that, please send me a message. Each mobile is made-to-order and no two will be exactly alike, but they will all be made with the same or similar materials. The ribbons and trim are hung from a 10 inch wooden ring, and the ring is hung from ivory seam binding. The seam binding is attached to a 1 inch silver metal ring at the top for hanging. The ribbons hanging from the wooden ring are a little over a foot long, and the ribbon it's hanging from is also a little over a foot long. The entire mobile from the top silver hanging ring, to the bottom of the ribbon, is approximately 2 1/2 feet. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me!
"Romance is the glamour which turns the dust of everyday life into a golden haze." ~Elinor Glyn Pinterest is addictive - we all know this - I have been having a great time lately perusing it for beautiful photos and creating new boards. I like to find inspiration for photoshoots and post ideas on pinterest! I love all of the Marie Antoinette inspired photos out there and the pictures taken in Versailles of her bedroom and the palace. Everything is so feminine and ornate! That was the inspiration for these pictures - a Marie Antoinette-esque dressing table scene. I hope you like them and are having a wonderful January! I have added new treasures to the Etsy Shop as well so be sure to have a look - the first batch of 2014!! (Bit late because I have been busy with my Sister and her new baby!!!) Here is a little sneak peek of what is new in the shop... I am sharing with: What's It Wednesday Pink Saturday
