As a parent, I think you begin thinking about your child starting kindergarten pretty much as soon as he/she is born. Not in terms of “Can’t wait to get there,” but just as some distant point WAY off in the future. Somehow it still sneaks up on you. My little man started kindergarten this week. I feel so blessed to have him at my new school with me. He has a beautiful classroom and a wonderful teacher. Happy Boy= Happy Mommy In addition to Nash starting school, I taught my first three days with my new second graders! I am in LOVE! They are absolutely darling and already so independent! About halfway through my first day of teaching, these gorgeous flowers arrived for me… ….they were from my old teammates in Kentucky!!! It means so much to me that they still think of me and wish me well! The first two days were FULL of superhero activities. We learned a lot about each other and established our expectations for the classroom. I also used some of the activities to give me a benchmark of what skills my students felt comfortable with and which skills needed more practice. We also spent some time reviewing short vowel sounds. I created this chart to look like one my Reading Recovery teacher gave me at my old school. After I introduce this chart to my students, we use our pointer finger and middle finger to help use practice isolating the initial vowel sound- “a-pple, a-pple, a,a,a” “e-ddie, e-ddie, e,e,e” and so on. Clear as mud? I promise it works! You can snag this free chart on my FB fanpage After lots of practice, we begin the Vowel Drill!! I created these cards four years ago and they are still in perfect condition. It is important that when you are making these cards that all the a’s are the same color, e’s the same color… you get the point! You will use the color as quick way to scan the room and see how your students are doing. These are simply index cards folded right down the middle. In order to practice, I would yell out a vowel sound and the students hold up the vowel they heard! They LOVE it! After we hold up our card, we say our vowel chant so we can implant the sound even more in our brains (a-pple, a-pple, a,a,a…A says a). By the end I was selecting students to be the expert and say the sound. On Friday my students worked on the vowels in isolation. Since they did such a fantastic job {great job first grade teachers} we will move on to Vowel-Consonants on Monday, and Consonant-Vowel-Consonant later in the week! Now, since we survived the first three days of school, Emmie and I are treating ourselves to a pedicure! Have a wonderful weekend!

“Color-coded stitches.” We can always count on Cocoknits to provide notions that are as beautiful as they are useful. Each of these stitch markers sets is perfectly suited to helping you clearly read your knitting! The colored stitch markers are perfect helpmates to the Cocoknits Sweater Worksheet, corresponding to essential steps in the Cocoknits Method of top-down sweater-knitting. Six rainbow-bright colors help you keep track of your stitches as you go--they’re easily seen when marking rounds, increases, decreases, and stitch patterns. We’re offering three different sizes of colorful ring markers, an opening marker, and a split ring stitch marker. The jumbo sized stitch marker accommodates up to a US 19/16mm needle, the medium sized ring marker accommodates up to a US 13/9mm needle, and the smaller size accommodates up to a US 7/4.5mm needle—both are made of nylon-coated steel. The opening stitch markers are able to fit up to a US 11/8mm needle. These markers are made of painted steel—this means they are thinner and more delicate than the rings, and won’t leave a ladder in your fabric! The split ring stitch markers are a simple, open loop with a pointed leg that will nestle into your stitches and stay put—perfect for creating increases, counting rows or repeats, or working cables. Like the ring stitch markers, these are made with nylon-coated steel. If you’re not sure which Cocoknits stitch marker to try first—or you’d love a handy sampling of each kind—try the Flight of Stitch Markers! Five types of stitch markers (split ring, triangle, small ring, original ring, and jumbo ring) are individually packaged in their own labeled tube, then placed in the Flight box with a magnetic closure. Cocoknits’ box of precious metal stitch markers contains 54 steel based markers—two sizes of ring marker and an opening marker—finished with gold, silver, and copper coloring. The small ring marker accommodates up to a US 7/4.5mm needle and the larger stitch marker accommodates up to a US 13/9mm needle. The opening stitch markers are able to fit up to a US 11/8mm needle. We’ve also brought in soothing earth tone triangle stitch markers. The clever, angled shape makes it easy to transfer the marker from one needle to another—your needle tip naturally finds a corner. The earth tone set features three each of small, medium, and large markers in six different colors: a total of 54 markers. The smallest can fit up to US 6 (4 mm), the medium marker can fit up to US 10 (6 mm), and the largest can fit up to US 13 (9 mm). Colorful Ring Stitch Markers (US 13/9mm). Small Colorful Ring Stitch Markers (US 7/4.5mm). Opening Colorful Stitch Markers (US 11/8mm). Triangle Stitch Markers (6 each of 3 sizes). Extra Small Triangle Stitch Markers (40 total, 10 each of 2 color/sizes). Jumbo Colorful Ring Stitch Markers (US 19/16mm). Precious Metal Stitch Markers. Split Ring Stitch Markers. Flight of Stitch Markers. Triangle Stitch Markers (Earth Tones).

Hello again! It's Megan from Homemade Ginger and I think you will just love today's craft! When spring comes around, I always get in the mood to declutter. The kids toys seem to multiply every year even though I rarely buy them any toys. How does this happen? I love to just clear out the clutter and start the summer with a more fresh and simple space for the family. I am always amazed at how well my kids do after we have donated a lot of their toys. They really do only need a few things to keep them

Here is another bow game idea that works great for a class or group. Ideally, arrange the seats so that the students are sitting in a circle. (You could always just have them stand while doing this game.) Turn on some music and have students pass the cup around the circle using the tips of their bows. The rules are that the person with the cup only passes it when the next person is demonstrating a perfect bow hold. For large groups, I use lots of cups at once so that there won't be a long wait between turns. Students like doing this - especially when there are lots of cups they are trying to pass around. You can turn it into a race by dividing the class into 2 groups. Sometimes, I add a little prize and mark a few of the cups with a little dot on the inside. When I turn off the music, the students who have the marked cups get to pick a little treat.
You need: drawing sheet 20 by 20 cm ruler pencil post it black markers Step 1 Draw an eye in the middle. Draw lines from the eye to the edges. Important: this must be an EVEN number of lines, otherwise you won't be able to color a checkerboard pattern later. Step 2 Put a post-it on the eye. Be sure there will be place for another one later. Draw dots on the cornors with a pencil and connect them. Step 3 Do the same on another part of the sheet. Step 4 Trace all lines with a fine black marker. Draw alternately dots in the shapes that must become black. Color them with a bigger black marker Stap 5 Color the iris of the eye with pencil.

Collaborative practice in the classroom can facilitate acceptance, cooperation and teamwork. This collaborative activity was created from the rubric of one of my most popular resources and will be offered "free forever" as part of my own collaboration with teacher/authors here on TpT who are committed, as I am, to teach and model tolerance, respect, empathy and compassion for all children in our classrooms and communities. The concept is simple – the results are awesome! Using simple materials such as colored pencils, markers, crayons, paints - each student works independently on his/her “tile.” Once completed, 4 students join their tiles together to form a whole. Simply trim away the excess paper and tape the squares together on the back. Easier still, tape them in place on a large sheet of colored paper. The completed piece is accomplished by turning each square 90 degrees clockwise and measures app.15½ x 15½ inches. Classroom Teachers It’s no secret that integrating art into your subject matter can be highly effective. After all, this product was created based on radial symmetry and fractions! As a math resource, this page is perfect. Also consider the impact a wall of “Heart Hands" could have. What a unique and powerful presentation! Art Teachers This is a must-have for your sub folder - a no-fuss, engaging project for a wide range of grade levels. Better yet, customize the page to complement your own curriculum. Based on your specific directives, this product can be adapted to fit your units on color, line, shape, symmetry, asymmetry, pattern, texture, shading, contrast and more. This is a resource that not only delivers on a number of learning levels - it brings the “fun factor!” Your kids will love the ease of the process, the opportunity to create their own page and finally the “wow” moment of contributing to the cool, collaborative artwork.
