by Maxime Coutte How you can build your own VR headset for $100 My name is Maxime Peroumal. I’m 16 and I built my own VR headset with my best friends, Jonas Ceccon and Gabriel Combe. And it ended up costing us $100. I started programming when I was 13, thanks to my math teacher. Every Monday and Tuesday, my friends and I used to go to his classroom to learn and practice instead of having a meal at the cafeteria. I spent one year building a very basic 8-bit OS from scratch and competing in rob
In this thesis, we built an autonomous navigational system that can support any roaming device exactly plot its position from a starting point. The system is based on ADNS-2610 optical chip and Hitachi HM55B Compass Module which together with basic stamp 2 module gathers information about its position and plots it in simulation software in real time. The simulation software consisted of some fields to show values such velocity, acceleration, and displacement, heading etc of the device (robot) in real time and plot the movement on a 2D map. The 2D map is in fact a continuous line on the grid that shows the path that is traveled by the robot. This helped us to visually detect any flaws in our simulation software. We also have implemented a line following algorithm and built a corresponding required hardware from scratch. This helped us to cause the robot to follow a line and along with the simulation software plot in. The last part of the thesis was to detect the end of the line when reached, the robot stops as it does so.
Around the world, travel-friendly bots are being used for everything from retrieving your luggage to guiding you to your gate.
Future of Aircraft by Shabtai Hirshberg Shabtai Hirshberg is an innovator who focuses on commercial aircrafts industry, his thesis always considers the design, comfort, fuel saving and greener environment for the aircraft concept. Hirshberg proposal suggests that we will be having a double increase in number of flights by the end of 2030. At the same time, the rising prices of fuel would be a major issue that may cut back the luxuries and increase passenger capacities since the business would become less profitable.
Hi Friends! I hope you had a nice weekend. I’ve been holding this post off for a couple of weeks because it features a traveler’s journal I created for my daughter, Emily. I wanted to give her something for her birthday that she could journal in as she has always… Continue reading

Every age has characteristic inventions that change the world. In the 19th century it was the steam engine and the train. For the 20th, electric and gasoline power, aircraft, nuclear weapons, even ventures into space. Today, the planet is awash with electronic business, chatter and virtual-reality entertainment so brilliant that the division between real and simulated is hard to discern. But one new idea from the 19th century has failed, so far, to enter reality--time travel, using machines to turn the time dimension into a two-way highway. Will it come true, as foreseen in science fiction? Might we expect visits to and from the future, sooner than from space? That is the Time Machine Hypothesis, examined here by futurist Damien Broderick, an award-winning writer and theorist of the genre of the future. Broderick homes in on the topic through the lens of science as well as fiction, exploring some fifty different time-travel scenarios and conundrums found in the science fiction literature and film.

In The Chronocar, science fiction meets history in a dynamic tale of time travel. When Tony finds a science journal about time travel, he combines this new found knowledge with his own near genius talents to design a Chronocar. His first trip is to meet the gentleman who wrote the paper, a Dr. Semmie Johnson who was once a slave but escaped a harrowing ordeal in search of an education. Through trial and error, Tony learns the true dangers of time travel on both history and the future. I enjoyed both the plot and the history and science that were introduced into the story to provide the validity to the time travel theories. Combined with interesting characters and believable scenes, I found The Chronocar an excellent read that I would recommend especially to teens and young adults. Steve Bellinger’s story also fills a much-needed niche by featuring black main characters. While Bellinger used racial tensions to add drama to the story, he balanced the dangers of being a minority through history with the fact that not all whites were bigots any more than all blacks were ignorant. He is a master storyteller who takes the time to set the scene with both historical facts and memorable characters. I especially enjoyed how he chose times in history that were unexpected, such as starting Semmie Johnson’s story after the Civil War and choosing a quiet time in history for Tony to make his trip back to Chicago, just prior to the Chicago race riots of 1919. By choosing relatively quiet times in history, the reader gets a better feel for what the everyday man experienced.
