The November issue of Scrap365 ((UK magazine) is out now and I thought I would share a few little 'peeks' at a layout I got published in this issue. They had us scrapping the men in our lives for this issue, which I think is great because I think many of us find it easy to scrap those feminine style layouts but we don't often see very many masculine style layouts. I decided I would scrap a photo of one of my dear nephews for this layout, it's a photo my sister took of my nephew Michael at the cottage. He's such a great kid. He got married a few months ago and I know things get busy when you start a new life. I didn't get to see as much of him as we used to so I was so happy when he called me up a few days ago and asked if he could just come over for the day and hang. Here are a few more close up shots (sorry I can't share the layout in full here at my blog but you can see the full layout in the November issue of Scrap365) The zipper I used here again is acutally from an old pair of jeans....I added a tag behind the zip that pulls out and has my journaling. I used lots of Dusty Attic chipboard on this one as well as Bo Bunny's Weekend Market collection papers and embellishments, trinkets and stamps. I find this collection works really well for masculine layouts. If you would like to see the layout in it's entirety and would like to subscribe to Scrap365 Magazine (you can also order single issues and back issues as well) You can find it HERE (you can find the subscribing area under the heading 'Shop'). This magazine is amazing and filled with beautiful layouts and great tutorials and techniques! Thanks for stopping by and for all the sweet comments! Hope you are all having a lovely fall weekend! xo

Gracias.
Hello, Blogger Peeps! I am trying something new....or should I say old?! Here's the scoop. I was chatting with two friends, about different things, on different days, and the conversations steered me to an idea! I was "complaining" to one friend that, while I was producing more work than ever before, that most of it was not for my own blog. At the same time, another friend wanted to make use of images of some of my old projects. And....LIGHT BULB! I decided to do some posts each month...FROM THE VAULT. I will share some older projects that need some new love...and inspire those of you who missed the projects the first time around! Sounds fun, right?! Most of these projects are still "good" and need some love! {wink} Plus, most of you are hoarders {don't look at me like that, you know it's true!} and maybe these projects will inspire you to dust off some products and make some things! Use that stash! This is a school-themed layout I made two years ago. The little girl is my mother-in-law! I know it is hard to find Graphic 45 An ABC Primer, but you can find other school papers and recreate the layout design. Or use that hoard of Graphic 45 that you have in your stash! I created this mini book a while ago, also with Graphic 45 An ABC Primer. HERE is a tutorial for you. This one is an 8-page mini plus a matching box! You guys know I love me a mini album! This is a funky album from Kaisercraft. For more details see HERE. Now, here is a whack of cards for you to look at. Some are not that old, some are really old. All school themes to get you inspired for those back-to-school projects! This one has a tutorial. Click HERE. I hope you enjoyed my FROM THE VAULT post! Have a super day!

Bonsoir :) Allez un petit post en ce dimanche avant d'attaquer la semaine, mais je n'ai pas vraiment grand chose à vous montrer mais plutôt...
My camera is rarely far from my reach, I love to snap those everyday photos like the one I took of my oldest daughter Chloe when we were out at a little patio in Paris, Ontario having a cold drink and some munchies. To make up this page I went with the soft green paper from the new Maja Design 'Sofiero' collection and mixed it with some of the greens from the 'Life in the Country' collection and a little touch of 'Crea Diem' for elegance. I got this beautiful pack of elegant lace's from Lucy at Tresors De Luxe, so I used a section of one of them under my photo (I lightly misted them with some green and tea color tints). I also like to use earthy colors with green when it comes to my embellishments, so I used a variety of embellishments from the 'Naturals' collection from My Little Yellow Bicycle. I love their canvas, wood and cork embellishments. Here are a few of the embellishments I used on this layout.... I tinted the measuring tape embellishment from the Canvas Strips with some tea (yep! a real tea bag steeped in boiling water). I added some Platinum Stickles to the Cork Heart Pin. I used the canvas flower shape to make a layered bloom and the other canvas pieces were simply used 'as is'. I absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the new 'word' stamp sets from My Little Yellow Bicycle, I love the script/font they use for the title stamps and they come in so many great and versatile subject/titles. The one I used here was from the 'Everyday collection'. I wanted to get an even more intense effect so after I stamped the title in black ink, I used some gloss medium (I used the Gloss Varnish from Dusty Attic, but Glossy Accents will work just as well)....I just followed the lines of the stamped image to give the title a nice shine and some thicker texture. In this close-up you can see the canvas bloom from MLYB layered with the Recollections blooms. In the corners I used another stencil I bought a couple weeks ago from the Art House Studio (Brick Stencil by Crafters Workshop). Some of you have asked me about these stencils, it's an artshop/studio here in Cambridge Ontario but she also sells online with a very reasonable shipping rate, you can find her shop HERE. Many of you have also been asking me about where to get Maja Design papers....more and more shops and online stores are beginning to carry these beautiful paper collections. You can find a full retailers list HERE. And if you'd like to check out Tressors De Luxe lace and other lovely embellishments, you can find them HERE.
Hello my dear friends, I bought myself some new rubber gloves ~ one left hand and a right hand ~ and I got to do my felting at last. I can now finally share my new felted nests with you. I have had so much fun making these and this time I made them spring time nests. I used many new types and colors of wool to give the effect of fresh moss, dried little twiglets and spring time colors. And this time I added a new little idea and twist to the nests which I came up with while I was working on them. Remember these? I had asked you if you could guess what they would become and the answer is ... ... little book page leaves!! I wasn't too sure about the shade of green I chose for the leaves so I made some more but without the color wash and I liked them if not just as much as the green ones, maybe even more. I not only got carried away taking many photos again but I also got carried away in making many nests as you will see and ... I still have 4 more on my worktable right now waiting to be finished! Combined the felted nest and paper leaves make these lovely creations! ... Springtime nests ... ... just be waiting for some little bird to come and call it home. I made a bigger one ... ... and smaller ones ... ... some with green leaves .. ... and some with white ... ... some with little flowers ... ... and some without ... ... but each one just as pretty as the other never the less! I hope you have enjoyed my newest creation today. You can still find my felted nest tutorial on the right side of my blog under my free tutorials if you wish to try it for yourself. I hope you are well and life is treating your kind. Have a peaceful and creative day, Karen B.

Hi all! I recently got a whole bunch of photos of my adorable little great-nieces from their sweet mom Danielle. Lots of pretty autumn photos, so I decided to scrap them using a variety of Maja desi
Oh what fun I have had creating with the Lily & Moss collection from Kaisercraft. My first layout using this collection began with some mixed media on my background. As always I used white textured cardstock and experimented with some lindy's magical powder. I sprinkled the powder and activated with some water and a paintbrush. I then cut and distressed the edges of the woodgrain paper and layered down the side using fun foam on some of the pieces to create dimension. Next I backed the photo again distressed the edges and layered with more fun foam. To finish I embellished with the ephemera pieces from the collectables. For layout #2 I followed a sketch and kept it pretty minimal. A splash more of lindys magical powder, some fun foam and distressed edges...and done. Layout #3 I used a cutfile to begin with, again background was made using lindys magical powder and some simple embellishments. For my fourth layout I used lots of layers with distressed edges. By this point I had already used most of the ephemera and so cut and layered my own flowers. I particularly like how well the colours match the collection with this photo. Thank you for stopping by today I really hope you get the chance to play with the lily and moss collection from Kaisercraft. Happy crafting xxx
Hello everyone, Gabrielle here with you today! Yup, I'm back for a little guest spot! When I received the gorgeous Vintage Romance collection in the mail a couple weeks ago, I felt compelled to make up a layout & video tutorial with these stunning papers! I used 'Happily Ever After', 'Together Forever' and 'Words of Love' for my page design. I was going for a fabricky (is that a word? LOL) look on this layout, so I added a little machine stitching on the background design, this is optional, I think it can look equally as nice if you leave that off (if you are not a sewer). As always, no project is complete for me without a nice smattering of Dusty Attic products. For this page I used the following: ~ Wildflower #3 ~ Chicken Wire Panel (small) ~ Word Pack #10 ~ Vintage Frame #4 ~ Dusty Attic 'Flower Power' Stencil ~ Dusty Attic Glaze Varnish So grab your favorite beverage, take a little break and enjoy!.... I hope you enjoyed my little video tutorial, here are a few closeups for you to check out at your leisure.... I have this close-up turned on it's side just so you can get a more close-up and personal look at it. I simply followed the pattern in the paper to create my button hole design...makes it easy to space out the design. The next step was to add a little color just directly behind the photo area using some Shimmerz spray called 'See Ya Latte' Spritz....then I applied some home-made texture paste through a Dusty Attic stencil called Flower Power. I was going for a kind of Bohemian-chic look and I thought this daisy design would work well with it. I also matted my photo with the backside of the 'Words of Love' paper, I do love browns with blues! To continue the fabric idea of my page I also included a pretty strip of lace that I got from Tresor's de Luxe (my favorite source for beautiful lace!), which I adhered with Tombow liquid adhesive. I prefer this glue as it allows you to readjust your placement if need be without making a big mess on the paper (let the glue sit for a few minutes to set up before you apply your embellishment to the page. I had a little fun with my embellishments on this one....I tried a new product (at least to me) called Prills, they are these little balls that come in different colors. Here I using the color called A-maized. I just applied a little glue to the tops of the blossoms of the Wild-Flowers #4 chippie by Dusty Attic and poured the little pebbles onto it.....I really love the effect! I finished my design by adding some layered floral and butterfly stickers by K&Company in a few strategic areas of my photo area. Added a small shabby-chic bench embellishment by Prima and a few adhesive pearls on the lace panel. Done! I hope you enjoyed my tutorial today and hope you feel inspired to try your hand with the gorgeous new Vintage Romance collection and Dusty Attic chippies and stencils. If you are looking for a great online source for Dusty Attic and Maja Design products, you can find both at The Scrapbook Diaries. I'm always delighted to read your comments and feedback, they simply make my day, thank-you! xo
Hello Sweeties Today I'm up on Lindy's Gang blog to give you some tips on how to pick colors when working on a vintage project. It's well known that I like t
So my assignment with Bo Bunny this week was to create the layout sketch and create a layout to go with it as well. Well, I was a little nervous about it, I'm new to making sketches, but with a little trial an error I managed to put a sketch together. Usually I would make my page first and create a sketch from the page I made but I didn't want the other girls that were doing the assignment to have to wait on my sketch, so the sketch came first. The above l/o is the page I came up with using my sketch.. I wanted to go a little more monochromatic with this page so I went with some papers from the Bo Bunny Et Cetera collection and tried to stick to neutrals with just a hint of blush pink. I added just a little bit of Bo Bunny's Timepiece into it too (I love the 6x6 paper pads, I used the clock paper and cut out the clocks to use as embellishments....just added a little Stickles in Platinum color to dress them up a bit) I also added in a few pieces of my favourite chippies from Dusty Attic too! The Vintage Keys, the Chicken Wire (that's the last of my chicken wire in my stash! now I'm waiting on my next DT package...can't wait!) the corner flourish and title chippies are all from Dusty Attic. The larger blooms are handmade by simply gathering some pieces of lace. Here are a few close-ups of the page details.... NOTE: I used Tombow liquid adhesive (green & white bottle) to attach my pearl strand. I find this works beautifully for adding fussy strands to a page. All you do is use the fine tip end and draw out the design you would like your pearl strand to go in. Let the adhesive dry slightly, it becomes gummy/tacky. You can then lay your pearl strand onto the page over the line and it will stick without slipping! For the circle design I used the Crafters Workshop circle template and cut the circle design from one of the Bo Bunny patterned papers. I made marks for my brads and then added some kitchen twine twisted around the brades to create the above design. I used a corner stamp and key-hole rub-on from the Bo Bunny Timepiece colletion to dress up the corner of my layout. Supplies for this page: Patterned Paper: Et Cetera - Mail Room, Et Cetera, Symphony, Gabrielle - Cut Outs Cardstock: Tutu Dot 6x6 Paper Pads: Timepiece (clock face embellishments) Noteworthy: Et Cetera Stickers: Et Cetera Combo Stickers Rub-on's: Timepiece Trinkets: Gabrielle Stamps: Timepiece Buttons: Bo Bunny Buttons & Bling Blooms were handmade by gathering strips of lace. Chipboard pieces: Dusty Attic Designs Lace & Pearl trims are off the roll from local fabric store. Cheesecloth, twine, ink & Stickles. If you like the page design please feel free to use my sketch and give it a go! Here is the sketch for this page... If you use the sketch design, I'd love it if you drop me a link here in a comment so I can come have a peek! I'd love to see what you all do with it! And be sure to drop off a link to your page at the Bo Bunny Blog (by November 3rd) for a chance to win some yummy Bo Bunny goodies!! xx
Confession: I love pretty bookmarks but usually use a a scrap of paper to mark my place. These are so lovely though, that I may have to change my ways. I saw these velvet bookmarks on the cover of Somerset Studio magazine last year and thought they were beautiful. photo credit: Somerst Studio I found all my supplies on Etsy, and while I used 1" ribbon, in hindsight I'd go narrower, just because there are more ribbon choices. For each book mark you will need: 12" of velvet ribbon 2- 1" ribbon end clamps Old buttons, beads or jewelry pieces Jump rings and headpins Measure out your 12" of ribbon. Line up your ribbon end clamp, and use pliers to gently, (but tightly,) close the clamp. Do this on both ends. Now the fun part. Use what ever adornment you like and attach it to the clamp with a jump ring. If you are using beads, first you must put the bead on a head pin and make a loop at the top.

I decided this weekend I would dig through some of my older stash in creating this page....so some of the pieces are new, but I dug through some older papers (like Basic Grey, Capella papers and stickers), some old MME (My Minds Eye) with a dash of Maja and 7 Dots (The Background paper is from the Dreamer collection, a paper called Sleepless). I rarely use sketches when I make up a layout because I'm usually trying to feature certain products so I let the products be my inspiraton. But in this case was inspired by a sketch I saw on Pinterest by Tinci Designs....it was actually a sketch made for digital kits, but I really liked the design and thought it would work well with the Dusty Attic large Film Strip chippie I've been wanting to use. Here is a picture of Tinci's Digital kit sketches... I used the sketch in the top right corner. If you are interested in digital kits you can find her link HERE. I used the film strip as the bridge tothe two design clusters and kind of a title space as well. I painted all my chipboard pieces with white gesso (two coats) and did a little random stamping on them with word and script stamps. I also edged with some soft brown chalk in as well. I used one of my favorite little scroll chippies in the bottom right corner of the page as well. I love the light airy filligree look the fine cut chipboard gives to a page. The cute little natural/lavender floral cluster is from Tresors de Luxe. I've had this Dusty Attic Bracket Frame set for years in my stash and only this weekend got to using it! I used one of the smaller frames in the set to frame my photo. I used a really intricate and beautiful border chip from Dusty Attic called 'Sweet Pea Border' for the left side of the page design. (it is not pictured in the supplies photo below because a photo was not available online, but you can get it at the website). I added a few adhesive pearls to finish the look. I also did a bit of inking on the page with some colors that I picked out from the background paper (7 Dots Studios Dreamer/Sleepless) ....I wanted to feature the teal blues with the soft pinky/lavender. So I did a little inking with Donna Salazer Distress Inkpad (Denim), Versa Magic Chalk Ink (Spring Pansy) and did a little spritzing with Lindys Starburst Spray (Steampunk Sepia). And I added some texture with my home-made texture paste and a Crafters Workshop Stencil called 'Art Is'. Dusty Attic Supplies used in this project: ~ Bracket Frame Set ~ Sweet Pea Border ~ Small Scrolls ~ Dusty Roses - Eggplant ~ Film Strip I hope you enjoyed my Dusty Attic project today and hope that you feel inspired to create a project using beautiful Dusty Attic products! As always I just want you all to know you can find retailers for Dusty Attic in the right side column of my blog (under the Dusty Attic DT photo of me), and I can let you know as well that I was recently at Natasha's Shop 'Moments of Tranquility' and she has a nice big selection of DA products available for online shopping there. xo
I'm really excited to show you all my first project with Maja Designs! Every first Tuesday of the month Maja puts out this cool challenge called the Mood Board Challenge. This is a board created by Jenny Grotherus our super talented design team coordinator filled with inspiration to help you create a beautiful page full of gorgeous color, texture and perhaps journal inspiration as well. Below is the mood board for January...I chose to use the 'shades of blue', 'warming browns', 'torn', 'some stitches', 'hand journaling', 'plaid' and 'crisp air' as my inspiration points. And I just loved the inspiration poem as well! It put me in mind of this photo I recently got of my two great nieces, riding these stone elephants....it's so true how children find such joy in simple things and how the world around us can move us to feel like children again. I used the beautiful and perfectly distressed Maja Designs collections called 'Life in the Country' and 'Vintage Summer Basics' to make up this page. I chose papers from these two collections but they also have a wonderful Vintage Winter collection that is filled with these pretty blues and browns. Here are some close-up's of the page showing some of the detail work.... The intricate chipboard flourish in the corner of the photo is another NEW Dusty Attic piece called Vine Corner and the flourish at the bottom is called Scroll #10. I'm always amazed at how incredibly detailed Dusty Attic gets with their chipboard! Supplies: Patterned Paper: Maja Designs, (Life in the Country 6x6 paper pad)(Vintage Summer Basics) Chipboard: Dusty Attic Designs (Vine Corner, Scroll #10) Flowers: Prima, Dusty Attic Alphabet stickers: Websters Pages Martha Stewart Edge/corner punches (Swirling Lace) I've already been asked by many of you where you can find these beautiful papers. They do have a Store Finder at their website, all you have to do is click the flag for your country and you'll get a list of vendors carrying the Maja products. I do have to say for those of us in North America the pickens are thin right now so my best advice would be to let your local scrapbook store know of your interest in these collections. I find most local stores are very interested in knowing what products people would like for them to bring in. I do believe there are a number of online stores in the other countries as well that would probably ship to North America as well. For more information on the Mood Board challenges and to see more layouts made by the design team with this months mood board you can check out todays blog post at the Maja blog :)
Todays assignment for the Bo Bunny team was to create a layout mixing and matching 2 or more collections. I found this photo of my youngest daughter and me on a walk from a few years ago. I wanted to scrap it in soft neutral colors so I chose the tan and pale aqua colors from the Woodland Winter The Avenues collections. For the background, I did a little inking with some soft aqua chalk ink by Versa Mark ( Sea Breeze from the Spring collection). Then I used a Prima flourish stencil with some home made texture paste (my home-made texture paste recipe is found in the right column of my blog under tutorials). I chose the blooms from the "Natural Earth" collection of Bo Bunny blooms to keep to the nature theme of the page. I also used some of the fun die cuts from the Woodland Winter collection (Noteworthy) to stay in keeping with the theme of my page. I always love using the die cut pieces from the Noteworthy packages.....for those of you who don't like fussy cutting, these are the best! Isn't that deer and owl cute? Because my photo is from a few years ago, I wanted to incorporate the clocks from The Avenues collection to show the passing of time and also to reinforce how much time spent with family means to me. I used a fun new chipboard piece from Dusty Attic to frame my photo called String of Hearts Frame Set. This design comes in a set of 3 sizes....I just love them! I simply painted the frame white with Gesso and then used some chalk ink to tint the hearts. Then I went over the hearts with some glitter glues (Stickles: Gold and Waterfall). Bo Bunny Supplies: Patterned Paper: Journal/Woodland Winter; Antique, Clocks, Home, Stripe/The Avenues Dimensional Stickers: Woodland Winter Combo Stickers: The Avenues Brads: The Avenues Noteworthy: Woodland Winter Blossoms: Natural Earth Bouquet, Natural Earth Dahlia, Natural Earth Zinnia Kraft Wood Clocks/hands Thanks everyone for stopping by today and having a peek at my newest project. If you are looking for Dusty Attic chipboard, I have a listing of companies that carry Dusty Attic in the right side panel of my blog. Have a great weekend! xo xo
As most of you know by now, I have two daughters and no sons so most of my scrapping is done in a more feminine style. But I do have a bun...

Hi everyone :) I am slowly getting there on sharing the pages that were part of my 2014 Creative Team articles for Scrapbooking Memories. This is the 2nd last one, and it is on "Creating Clusters" for Vol. 17 No. 5. I'm sure you all know that it is very rare for me to create a layout without a cluster....or two! So that's what I decided to do this article on....how I go about creating them, and ideas on things you can include in them...which is pretty much anything & everything :) A cluster can be as big or small as you like, depending on your scrapping style, your budget, and what will work in the space that you have on your page. it can be anything from a small petite cluster to something that flows right across your page. For my first layout I have demonstrated the use of 2 clusters....opposite each other at either end of the photo. One being quite large, and the 2nd being much smaller. "Remember" When working with quite a few flowers in your cluster, try to choose a variety of sizes as this will give a more blanced look, rather than them all being the one size. For the smaller cluster, I have used things like blooms, chipboard, buttons, diecuts, stickers & cotton thread....and I also cut a few strips of PP into little banners & placed them so that they were fanned out at the bottom of the cluster. Chipboard pieces are always my go to for adding into my clusters. And this piece here has been cut in half so that you aren't wasting the bit that would otherwise be covered up by your photo or papers. Here's a few more close ups of around the page.... The larger cluster has similar items....just on a bigger scale & they wrap around the corner of the photo. Here's a close up of both clusters on the corners of the photo. Your cluster doesn't have to be right at the photo...it can be anywhere on your page that you think suits best. Although I must admit, that I do tend to put them near the photo more often than not. Next I used an example of a much smaller cluster....with only one on the page. "The G.O.R" Although I have used similar products as the previous layout, this one looks quite different and is more minimalist. For me, these are the staples for creating my clusters....flowers, chipboard, diecuts, buttons, threads & fibres. And here's a few more close ups of other areas of the page.... Leaves....of any description, are also a favourite to add to my clusters. Whether they be punched or diecut leaves using patterned papers...chipboard leaves, as I've used here, skeleton leaves, stamped leaves....or even manufacturers diecut leaves. Just any type of leaf always looks fabulous in amongst a cluster, especially when it contains flowers....Leaves, I love them! Well that is all I have for today...I have 1 more article to share, and that's me done & dusted :) Thanks so much for visiting & for any comments you leave...I hope you were inspired by my layouts & the basics of the article. Until next time...xx
The Scrapbook Diaries is a wonderful place to find unique and beautiful Kit Pages. I have been designing kit pages for Janene Meyerowitz (Owner of The Scrapbook Diaries) for about a year now and have enjoyed every minute of it! Along with a number of Kit Pages that I've designed for her, we've also collaborated on some really fun product releases as well. Each month I try to do 1 to 2 kit pages along with a full step by step video tutorial to go with the page kit. As the kits have sold out quickly each month, we've decided to offer the Video tutorials for a small fee, for unlimited online viewing. Janene also has a wonderful online store that offers an amazing variety of scrapbook products and mixed media products. Among the products she has in her store, she has the first line of Stamps I designed. Here are my first two stamp sets (just click on the photo to take you to her shop). The following are Video Tutorials I have created exclusively for The Scrapbook Diaries (Just click on the photos to be linked to the coordinating Video at her website). Gabrielle xo

Hope everyone is enjoying a wonderful start to their summer. The weather has been beautiful here,...I find myself outside doing a fair bit of gardening, my backyard is in need of some TLC! But I did find a little time to play with my new Bo Bunny products! For this page I used the Juliet collection from Bo Bunny, so many lovely floral images to fussy cut....and to accent I used some of the Laser Cut chippies (Butterflies & Tags). Also had some fun with the new Bo Bunny Foil rub-on's...I used the scripted quote, some cross stitching and vine images from the rub-ons. I just love them, they are so easy to apply! For my centerpiece flower I used one of my favorite fabric blooms from my friend Lucy's etsy shop Tresors de Luxe, I thought the fluffy pink bloom would go nicely with the lovely rose images found in the BB Juliet papers. If you haven't seen all the lovelies in her etsy shop you are in for a treat! You can find her shop by clicking the link (shop name) above. For my laser-cut butterflies, I opted to paint them white with a little Gesso (using a sponge dauber)....I liked the contrast against the darker background, it helps to see the intricate detailing on these lil embellishments. Finally I also added some gold glitter to the edges of the butterflies. I hope you enjoyed todays project, and hope you all find time this summer for a little crafting! My oldest daughter is finishing exams this week and my youngest will be finishing next week....I'm looking forward to a little creative time with my girls....how about you? What do you have planned for the Summer?
Hi all, Gabrielle here with you today to share my latest layout I made of one of my adorable little great-nieces. I felt like doing a ...
I just love doing scrap pages using song lyric's as a base for them! I really don't know why I don't do it more often! You kind of have the song playing in your head as you're scrapping and it makes it all the more fun to create! ....I took this photo of Chloe, my 14 year old daughter with a few of her good friends. I love how much fun they have together, it doesn't matter where they are or what the weather is like, they always have a good time together (yep, that's mud on Chloe's knee's from rough-housing with the boys! lol!) When I look at this photo it makes me think of the song lyrics from the song 'Good Time' by Owl City & Carly Rae Jepsen .... "We don't even have to try... It's always a good time" Here's a link to the song on Youtube if you're not familiar with it.... "GOOD TIME" Of course I just had to use the NEW Best Friends collection from Websters Pages to make up this page! This time I went with the blue's and turquoise colours in the collection since I was scrapping boys in the photo as well.....but, heehee, it didn't stop me from adding blooms to the page :) For this corner design I combined the lovely scroll chipboard from Dusty Attic with a cameo (Perfect Accents) piece from Websters Pages Best Friend collection. (the corner stamp is an older stamp from Websters Pages & Unity Stamps. This is something that I've used before on my pages, is a zipper that I cut out from an old pair of jeans (after going through two girls, the jeans were pretty much done anyway:) ....I used some of the beautiful lace trims that coordinate with the Best Friends collection around the zipper design. I made the blooms decorating this corner from the patterned paper from this collection using the Spellbinders 'Rose Creations' die cuts and some flower stamens that I found at my local fabric store. Here's a close-up look at the pretty new blooms from Websters Pages called Princess Petals....I'm loving that wide turquoise lace trim that goes with the BF collection as well! I though I would use up some of the left over scraps from the last two pages I made with the Best Friends Collection so I made up this tag... I did a little inking and stamping to make up this page....yep, I can't get enough of stamping lately! :) .....so tell me.....what song do you want to scrap in the near future? I love to hear what songs move and inspire people!

Just a short time ago Maja Design opened up their new Facebook page, and I noticed a lot of chatter about 'Fika' and something called Kladdkaka! Well, for those of you who are not Swedish, I should explain that Fika is the Swedish version of a 'Cafe Clatch' or tea time, where you enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea with a lovely desert. After seeing the yummy photo's of the Swedish cake called Kladdkaka, I looked up the recipe on Pinterest and immediately handed it over to my oldest daughter Chloe who was off school this summer and really enjoying trying out recipies from Pinterest. (HERE IS A LINK TO THE RECIPE OFF OF PINTEREST KLADDKAKA a recipe by a lady named Rebecca) Well, let me tell you, this cake is DELICIOUS! If you love brownies, you will love the dense rich taste of this Swedish treat! Above is a photo we took of the cake she made (we added a dollop or real whipped cream (has to be the real stuff not that oil based stuff!) and some fresh raspberries). You can find the recipe for the cake at my blog post today at Such a Pretty Mess Blogspot (although I hear that Jenny Grotherus's recipe for Kladdkaka is even more delicious and decadent....we'll be trying out her recipe next!...thanks Jenny!!) Here is a photo I took of my daughter with her cake... Okay, so back to my layout....haha, don't get me started on topic of food, I can go on for hours! I wanted to use a paper collection that would best reflect the theme of the page so of course I had to go with the Maja Design 'Ska vi ta en Fika collection'. Here are the papers I chose to use from this lovely collection: Ska vi ta en Fika: Kärleksmums - bs, Kaffetåren den bästa är.....but I also chose to mix in a couple other collections as well to bring in pinks for the berries and a clock for 'tea time'. So I also used Vintage Summer Basics: 1923, and Crea Diem: Den oersättliga tiden, as well as some butterflies from Vintage Spring Basics: 6th of May. Here are some close-ups of the embellishments I used on the page.... The pleated flowers are some Recollections flowers that I found at Michaels and the chipboard flourish is from Dusty Attic (I wanted to keep it shabby chic looking so I painted it white, edged it with brown chalk ink, stamped on random text and finished with a crackle varnish). The natural floral clusters and lace trims are from Tresors De Luxe. Aren't they cute?? I love having these little natural floral clusters ready to go to add to a page, no muss no fuss! You can find Lucy's gorgeous lace and floral designs at her etsy site here ~~> Tresors De Luxe. You might wonder how I got the flourishes to go all the way around the edges of the inner page even though the page has been trimmed to show the polka dot paper behind? I fussy cut the bottom and right side flourishes off the page first, then trimmed my page and stuck the flourish edge back onto the cut edges. Dusty Attic has this cute Mini Cutlery chipboard set that I thought would be a perfect accent to the page, I just painted them with bronze 3D paint and squeezed on the flourish design. I cut the largest clock from the Crea Diem collection paper and edged it with some Platinum Stickles and some more Dusty Attic chipboard and another flower. To get the flaked rusted look to my chipboard, I first stamped the chipboard flourishes with some Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet ink, then I took my flat paint brush with some gesso on it and just lightly dabbed it here and there. Finally I added a gloss coat to the chipboard pieces. I hope you enjoyed my project today and hope that I've inspired you to try some Swedish baking and maybe make a page about it too! xo
