The CD release is linked to a TV program scheduled to be shown on ITV in the UK on Thursday 5th March at 8.30 - the stations website includes the following information relating to the show - "Featuring interviews with hit makers including Art Garfunkel, Blondie, Abba, Freda Payne, George McCrae, Kike Dee, The Four Seasons and Gloria Gaynor - this 90 minute countdown of the 20 greatest musical moments from a time when everyone knew every week just what was number one. Narrated by Zoe Ball, the show tells the stories behind those irresistibly evocative hits that still hold a special place in our hearts four decades later - from Blockbuster to Bridge Over Troubled Water, Dancing Queen to Hot Love, I Will Survive to Heart Of Glass." Abba pictured during one of the TV performances they recorded whilst they were in Spain in May 1974…
Issue 35 of the ABBA Magazine was published in May 1981 and started with a report that the "Gracias Por La Musica" album had been selling well in Japan with over 80,000 copies sold at that point - it is also noted that the imported version from Japan (on the Discomate record label) had been spotted for sale in UK record shops Also in the editorial there is a mention of the "Words And Music" TV programme which had been shown in the the UK on the previous Good Friday. The majority of this issue was taken up with news related to Stig's 50th birthday celebrations - in fact this was spread over 9 pages of the magazine. The second major article in this issue was an interview with Buddy McCluskey who alongside his wife Mary provided the Spanish lyrics to the songs which ABBA re-recorded for Spanish speaking countries. As a follow on from the previous article the next section provides a discography from Argentine where ABBA records were released under the RCA record label. What is interesting from this list is that prior to the Spanish version of "Chiquitita" ABBA records did not do that well in the charts ; also that both the English and Spanish versions of the single charted.
The fifteenth issue of the International Abba Magazine was published in February 1983 and was focused on Abba's visit to London the previous November to promote "Abba The Singles The First 10 Years". The editorial section confirmed that Abba's latest album had reached the number 1 spot in the UK on its second week and the Agnetha was in the studio recording her solo album which wouldn't include the track "I'm Still Alive". The rest of this issue then covered in detail Abba's London visit including when they arrived, what they had for dinner, shopping trips and meetings with the press. Posted with Blogsy
Whilst sorting through my archive recently I found this article from Record Collector magazine (cleverly) titled "Knowing Me, Knowing URL" which takes a look at various Abba, Agnetha and Frida related websites. Posted with Blogsy
Issue 6 of the International Abba Magazine was published in May 1982 and was almost 100% dedicated to Frida. The editorial section contained little in the way of any actual Abba news so it must have been a fairly quiet period. The front and back cover of the magazine included pictures of Frida and inside the first main article was an overview of Phil Collins career linked to the fact that he was producing Frida's album. The magazine also included images from Abba's latest video "Head Over Heels" mostly featuring pictures of Frida.
