About The Artwork I’m inspired by many elements, but the greatest being that of nature. The depth and atmosphere of light peeking through dark and threatening cloud formations fills my soul with joy. So powerful and so beautiful. One quality enhances the quality of the other in such an exquisite way. When I add a little mist to the combination it comes alive. About The Artwork Mixed media on recycled crate wood Kris Gebhardt's figure paintings are a genuine portrayal of the human experience, capturing the gritty and layered nature of life in every stroke. His work reflects a sense of struggle and perseverance that is both captivating and inspiring, evident in the way he portrays his subjects on beat-up surfaces such as cardboard, tattered tarps, and dismantled crates - materials that are unconventional yet powerful in their rawness. What sets Gebhardt's work apart is his ability to convey depth and meaning through his distressed presentation of his subjects. The way he portrays their struggles and hardships adds an additional layer of significance, celebrating their resilience and tenacity. By drawing on "real life" experiences, both his own and those of the people around him, Gebhardt creates portraits that capture the essence of the Every Man, reminding us of the strength of the human spirit even in the face of adversity. Gebhardt's paintings demand attention as they dominate wall space with their powerful, raw, and thought-provoking presence. His unique hand-made style and use of unconventional canvases make his work stand out in a world where much art tends to look similar. Through his distinctive approach to figure painting, Gebhardt creates portraits that are not just aesthetically striking, but also emotionally resonant, inviting viewers to contemplate the human experience in all its complexity. About The Artwork I was born in 1973, and my parents were farmers. In 1999, I got enrolled into an art college with a dream of becoming an artist. I am currently a father, a husband, and a painter. The duality and struggle between a domestic life of being a parent and spouse with a working life became a subject matter to my work. My work expresses conflicts and emotions aroused from distinct social roles through figurative subjects that ranges from models and cartoon characters, to gods. For each piece, I start with a simple drawing on a canvas of a chosen figure/ image. Then, I go into a constant exploration of constructing and deconstructing the image with obsessive amount of acrylics or oils to ease out my emotions. I adapt myself and live out the society through such actions. About The Artwork The painting is inspired the American abstract expressionist movement of the 1950s and 60s, especially the works of Jackson Pollock. The painting shows the release of different emotions of an individual and reflects the different pathways these releases might take. Some emotions are easily released and these are shown by the more localised application of paint whereas others take a much more convoluted pathways indicated by the longer and thicker paint applications. About The Artwork There have been human beings before, there will be human beings when we are gone – merely the feelings of human beings are existing for centuries. The man comes as naked as he goes. In the fine art the body is the optimal expression for unaltered feelings. Much purer than the spoken word. With this pure presentation you can show feelings, thoughts and visions. Without a disguise the human being has no option than to be honest and open due to his lack of opportunity to hide something. My works are telling very different stories, always in the great limitless room between deep sadness and great happiness. The returning main motive is the coming and going, the circle of the genesis and decay, by removing the old to create something new. Between birth and death lies the fullness of life with the circling questions: the growing up, the temptation, the freedom, the motherhood, the capability of relinquishment. These are my own, very personal feelings, that find there expression in my paintings, otherwise they obsess a general validity all around the world. I am a part of humanity; I am feeling the same intensity of life as everyone else. The process of creating is a dialogue, the clarification of one question between me and something bigger. The completed picture is then an answer on ageless questions. Often there are a bunch of pictures that engage with one question. In a constant format they reflect similar, but different aspects of emotions. The individual works are only fragments of the whole. About The Artwork Conundrum At Red Dot Miami 2018 Dec 5 - 9 Kris Gebhardt's works are gritty — both literally and figuratively — gray and layered, his subjects are centrally focused over a massaged background. Born out of necessity, he engineered what was available for a base. Practiced over time and throughout many paintings this strategy became his style — matching subject matter to canvas and frame. Used cardboard, worn and tattered tarps stapled to one-by-fours, boxes and dismantled furniture are just a few of the starting points for a Kris Gebhardt “paintumentary.” Each one tells a story about someone he has met, worked with and known — whether that is an actual person, the archetype of a being or himself. His inspiration comes from a variety of places like the Greatest Generation, friends, employers and his own non-artistic career. Gebhardt is proficient at portraying Every Man and his struggles. Never setting out to become an artist, Gebhardt wears many hats. He is a husband, father, entrepreneur, athlete, photographer, author, consultant and business man and draws his scenes from his many vocations. Untitled Skull, 1981 Many of Jean-Michel Basquiat’s paintings are in some way autobiographical, and Untitled may be considered a form of self-portraiture. The skull here exists somewhere between life and death. The eyes are listless, the face is sunken in, and the head looks lobotomized and subdued. Yet there are wild

About The Artwork Currently showing at Gallery Merrick in Victoria British Columbia maximalism - Did you know that some historians consider that the maximalist art movement of the 1970’s was driven by women? A feminist movement. Artists like Miriam Schapiro, Joyce Kozloff and Cynthia Carlson were rejecting the muted, minimal “high art” that was being shown In galleries made by, you guessed it - white men. Pattern and design were deemed crafty, relegated to women’s work. Still sounds familiar 50 years later. About The Artwork my artwork is a totally original mix of media. start with the idea and with the unique process. I combines many layers and shapes, like flowers, wood everything that I can find in my surrounding, then i engage all together in to a digital process. I paint in advance many layers and then bring them to the digital. I draw the face in advance and then give it another touch with the digital to get the quality of the drawing I want to provide. I mixed all layers together to get a unique look. Then I print it on a very high quality of canvas in an artistic process called giclee print, to get the best results. then I work on the canvas with brushes, ink, graphite, acrylic in a traditional way, in a very accurate and a thin layer of colours to get an accurate, and a smooth feeling. It is not a coarse layer of colorus, it is very smooth and thin. I protect it with over varnish laqa . my process allowing me to create my unique style and identity. the client get a one of a kind original. About The Artwork The Space Anfractuous paintings are formal and spatial explorations that are fueled by the notion which embraces the immensity of the complexities of a being. The process of comprehending a foreign idea involves a distortion of meaning that breeds new ideologies and questions. This particular distortion interests me, and my paintings are explorations on similar lines. Space Anfractuous is a metaphor for a smooth mixture of ambiguities and ambivalence – like ethereal forms, juxtapositions, and multilayered folds of meanings – that exists in perhaps every possible substance. The explorations wrap these several frames and invite the spectator to experience them simultaneously. The paintings invite multiple points of view and traverse the ethereal boundaries between art and architecture, being and non-being, material and memory, expressions, and the presence of the inexpressible. The viewer is invited for a dynamic contemplation, taking a deeper dive, layer after layer becoming involved with the painting. The paintings attempt to impose a unique flow of energy, where the viewer’s gaze moves and glides through the canvas, subjecting them to a deeper inquiry. The works propose an experience designed to manifest the quality of the unknown and the infinite. They attempt to engage the mind in certain transformations, involving with the subjective experience of the spectator, leaving the spectator to discover it. It’s a journey both ways. Taking a deeper dive into something ambiguous, multi-dimensional, and multi-layered, and leaving the current reality and forms of relations and comprehensions behind. The Anfractuous paintings are suggestions of architectural space and aesthetics. I see these paintings as individual beings existing in space and time. I believe that complex systems like art and architecture should not be immured in one definite thing, and our explorations should go beyond the idea of ‘either-or’ and embrace the idea of ‘and-both’. I always found myself refuting with the notion of the “absolute”. In my opinion, I feel that absolute is a collusion and my body of work tries to respond to that, it is sort of ambiguous, multidimensional, and leaves you to discover it. I like to work with the idea of conscious and subconscious. Although I believe that everything that happens is a product of the two, it is just bound to happen, they drive everything, but I like to deliberately fuse conscious and the subconscious in my works. I see Space Anfractuous as the confluence or the meeting point of the conscious and the subconscious. The whole act of the creative process informs my works. The workflow adopted embraces processes and ideas like free-hand drawing, intuitive ideation, and subjectivity – I feel they are endangered species now, and I like to see them in action in my works. About The Artwork Gebhardt Egos, competition, unsolicited opinions — two artists under one roof, how is that possible? Decades of life lessons and experiences are visually rendered by husband and wife, large-format, mixed-media artists — peacefully. Kris and Angela Gebhardt’s pieces don’t just hang on walls, they dominate spaces. These artists make declarations that stop individuals and start conversations. The Gebhardts don’t collaborate and rarely share opinions about projects in progress, or otherwise. While they both use a variety of the same materials to create their art, what they produce is distinctly different from each other, and their peers. Hers Only Angela knows what truly stimulates her creativity. She expresses emotions in colors and shapes that hush, delight and excite. They are pretty and pleasing. Every stroke of paint, letter or note is organized until perfect. Images, numbers and words are tattooed and layered in acrylic, charcoal, oil, chalk, graphite, paper and more — to form her “auto-paint-ographies” — telling a story that will remain forever hers. Angela’s intensely personal style attracts patrons from around the world. They know her pain and sadness. Revel in her joy. Bask in her warmth. His Kris’ efforts are gritty — both literally and figuratively — gray and layered, his subjects are centrally placed over a finessed background. Early on he would engineer what was available on which to create — thus forming his style. Beat up surface is home to a beat down subject with distressed frame. Used cardboard, worn and tattered tarps stapled to one-by-fours, boxes and dismantled furniture are just a few of the starting points for a Kris Gebhardt “paintumentary.” Each the story of an actual person, the archetype of a being or Kris himself. His inspiration comes from the Greatest Generation, friends, employers and his own pre-artistic career. Gebhardt is proficient at portraying Every Man and his struggles. Theirs Whether you own an Angela Gebhardt, a Kris Gebhardt or one (or more) of each, undoubtedly, their unique individual styles have touched you. In their inventory, you will find a library of her serene-scapes and congregation of his salty-characters, heroes, villains, animals, and influences. Where Large-format, mixed-media Gebhardt paintings are at home in * private collections around the world * stylish luxury homes * contemporary high rise lobbies * corporate art collections * block buster movie sets and any environment that needs to make a high-impact visual statement. Covid What to do when the art shows are canceled, the airlines are shut down, restaurants aren’t accepting diners and collectors are in the market? Load a tour bus with large paintings, and hit the road. It stands to reason that artists with a rock-n-roll attitude would find a way to take art to the people, the same way musicians take music to their fans. Kris and Angela repeatedly find ways to be very hands on, even in touch-less times.
