Huang Po Hsun’s vibrant, bombastic paintings move between the familiar and the utterly otherworldly. These works, primarily acrylic on canvas, can feel like underwater carnivals or bubbling abstractions. The artist seems to be retrofitting icons from our world into his own flamboyant dreams.

Jess Johnson — WOR (pen, fibre tipped markers, acrylic paint, and gouache on paper, 2019)
This original painting is from around 2004 when I was heavily under the influence of surrealism. The sunset landscape is punctuated with groups of figures and a landform making an image of a face. There are a lot of unusual details painted into this scene This is one of the first paintings I made that experiments with a wildly colorful flow of abstraction within a representational image. Approximately 2 feet wide by 3 feet tall by 1 inch deep. Painted with acrylics on a gessoed canvas stretched over a wooden frame. Ready to hang.
Both images are 20" x 24" acrylic on canvas Needing some small paintings for a show next winter I bought a fish bowl and 3 goldfish.

"Als ich 5 oder 6 Jahre alt war, sah ich das erste Mal, wie einem Hasen das Genick gebrochen und ihm sein Fell abgezogen wurde. Ich musste fast kotzen. Es gab Hasenbraten. Zu dieser Zeit aß ich bereits kein Fleisch mehr und hätten sie einen Hund oder eine Katze geschlachtet, es hätte für mich keinen Unterschied gemacht." - Ein Einblick in ein sehr persönliches Projekt

About The Artwork This one was inspired by a cat on Bebek Sahili, Istanbul. It was looking for fish to steal from the fishermen. I also liked the fact that it is customary for Turkish fishermen to use empty packages from oil, yogurt and tomato paste for what they catch. Acrylic paints are a great medium for beginners looking to get into painting. They allowed me to learn all the general painting principles without having to
