En Shiatsu es una terapia manual, que se desarrollo en Japón, inspirada en la acupuntura y la medicina tradicional China. En 1977 Shizuto Mazunaga publico un libro llamado Shiatsu, donde sintetiza las técnica usadas en el siglo VII y es la base de la terapias usadas hoy en día en Occidente. Por lo menos hay 20 escuelas de diferentes estilos de Shiatsu que incorporan otras técnicas que son compatibles e integrales. Desde 1980, la evolución y el desarrollo del Shiatsu ha tenido lugar principalmente en Europa y América del Norte.
