This social studies activity celebrates Remembrance Day using the help of adapted books. November 11 is Remembrance Day Canada. Remembrance Day began when World War I ended after a long battle between 1914-1918. We wear poppies and participate in a moment of silence at 11:00 to commemorate all the soldiers that fought for our country. Sometimes it is challenging for students, especially those in special education classes, to understand the true meaning of Remembrance Day. This simplified explanation including visuals can help keep students students engaged in meaningful learning. This social studies activity can be used for Grade 1, Grade 2, Grade 3 or beyond! I created this resource for a special education class (SK to Grade 8) and they were all able to benefit! This printable cultural holidays activity covers: How did World War I start? When did World War I begin and end? What is a truce between countries? What is Remembrance Day? Why do we recognize Remembrance Day? Why do we wear poppies? Where do we wear poppies? The reading comprehension page is a great way to assess the student's understanding of the story. I, of course, LOVE to create individualized books that cater towards my kiddos' interests. A few of my students love movies and animated characters. One of my students often threw or ripped books, but once we used laminated custom books that catered towards her interests she was able to build not only tolerance but enjoyment! So I knew I HAD to make some books centered around classic movies and stories, and I hope your class loves these too! ----------------------------------------------------- Who would benefit from Adapted Books?
