For the first time I decided to have a real Christmas tree in the shop this year..... I've really enjoyed decorating it. I seem to have a bit of a bird theme going on, with white china birds which clip onto the tops of branches, and several varieties of glass birds hanging alongside the usual assortment of glass angels. I love the way the lights sparkle off the glass, especially when it gets dark outside. Banishing the cold and wet and dismal winter days, just for a while. (Antique French bridal crown: £95) (Vintage map bunting: £16.50) (My handmade paper and lace angels: £12.50) The latest selection of 'Jars of Inspiration', in beautiful vintage heavy cut-glass preserve jars. (Large buff handmade gift labels: £2 each) I have been experiencing major problems with my broadband lately, not being able to send/receive emails, update the blog etc, and I can't load up anything new onto my web shop page, extremely frustrating!!!! (I'm using someone else's internet signal to write this......) Why oh why does my broadband fluctuate so much - one week working perfectly well, the next so slow I just give up trying? Apologies for the rant......The worst thing was I couldn't watch 'Strictly' on iPlayer! Am very much hoping things will be back to normal in time for the Grand Final on Saturday; I'm rooting for Caroline to win, how about you? xxx

Hi everyone, I'm back to share a card for this week's Simon Says Stamp Challenge! This week's challenge is everyone's favourite: Anything Goes! The design team is featuring Tim Holtz products! Yay! Here's my card: I decided to use the tie from the Tim Holtz Tag & Tie die set. I thought it was a great way to use up some scraps of patterned paper. :) The ribbon is from the Simon Says Stamp December 2012 card kit. Initially I was going to use a birthday greeting with this card but then the 'Tag You're it!' just came to me. It reminded me of when I was in university and my boyfriend at the time (now my husband) and I would write long letters to each other. We would try to outdo each other in how long they were. :) Anyways, the sentiment is computer-generated. I printed it first on printer paper, adhered the tag on top, and ran it through the printer again. Here's what I used to make my card: I hope you'll join us for this week's challenge! Up for grabs is a $50 gift voucher for the Simon Says Stamp store thanks to sweet Heidi! For all the details and to see what the other designers have come up with please check out the Simon Says Stamp Challenge blog HERE. Thanks so much for stopping by! Sarah

Week five of the Sizzix blog hop is here! I pretty much literally tumbled off the plane from France and into my craft room to whip up this week's project! I was sent these pieces... ...which create the gift card holder below (this is the example from the Sizzix website): I decided not to make the gift card holder. Instead I used the various parts of the die cuts as a stencil. I used watercolor paint to create the flowers along the border of this tag: I'm a little in love with black Maya Mist, which creates this cool spray...

Hello friends and thanks for dropping by. I am back to do my regular Friday post this week and thought I would show you last weeks planner spread and some bookmarks I made for a swap on Instagram This spread was done in my good old Dylusions planner. It is getting very fat and bulky because of all the gessoing I do over the pre printed artwork on the right hand page. I am starting to wonder why on earth I purchased this planner at the end of last year, and I may just ditch it soon and use another one. Anyway, I had fun adding texture, washi and some stickers, stamping and paint to this one. Below is a close up: I also made some bookmarks in a similar collage style, for swapping on Instagram, I love making these. The ones shown below are all claimed, but if any visitors here are interested in swapping one, let me know as I really enjoy making them :o) Now before you sign off, I want to share something else with you. The other day I was contacted by someone by email, this is what he wrote: My name is Antonio, born in Italy and moved in UK for love. I have been living in this country for over 10 years, working in Food, Fashion and Beauty retail industry. Few weeks ago I have launched a youtube channel called AntonioMakes, a platform where I share my passion for handmade projects, mostly related to cooking, crafting, homemade cosmetics, general DIY and much more. My dream is to turn this hobby into a job, I love your blog and I was wondering if I could send you some items (HAPPY MAIL) I made as well as some gifts I bought for you. I am hoping your followers will like my creations. Well I am always happy to help another creative, so thank you Antonio and just look what he sent me: Some wonderful home made soap, beauty products and wonderful sweets. There was even more, but hubby nicked them before I could photograph them... Here is a link to his YouTube channel: where he shares recipes, tutorials on how to make soap etc. You can also find him on Instagram here Well, that's it for this week. Thanks for your visit like always and I hope you will have a creative weekend and a good week ahead!! xxxxx

Hello, Today, I'm sharing a shabby chic tag I created for my Blue Fern Studios design team work this month. The textured background was created with Blue Fern Garden papers torn, stamped, gesso'd and misted too. You'll find a little stencil and molding paste work also. I so adored the Blue Fern Studios Apothecary jar collection, there's so many unique looking jar designs thanks to Blue Fern Studios' chipboard designer Michele Singh. The chipboard jar was created by first applying some white acrylic paint, a little bit of fiber paper to add some texture, script stamp, and some stencil and molding paste. To finish it off, some pretty pink mist was applied with a paint brush sporadically around the jar. A watercolor pencil was used to add some definition as well. I got a little carried away and finished the back of the card too after the top hinge of the tag accidently fell backwards and the effect was so pretty I couldn't just leave the back of the tag unadorned. You can see the pretty Blue Fern Garden Boudoir paper was used as the base of the tag. Thanks for stopping by and hope you have found some inspiration to work on a tag too. Back of the tag: I really like how the top of the tag drapes over the back of the tag. I'll use those eyelets and jump rings again on a future tag. Just can't stop at one, right? Here's what the pretty Blue Fern Garden paper looks like.
Well hello there! I thought I would talk a little about how I audition and pull fabrics for a project... and how I use these fabric swatches to do it:) My latest fabric collection is Farm Girl Vintage It's full of many prints in happy vintage colors that I love to use. So of course... I made a fabric swatch tag for each print in the collection. These three prints are not in my Farm Girl Vintage collection but are the 3 new widleback (108") prints that co-ordinate with the collection. The prints are called FARM LIFE and it comes in these three colors. This is the print that I am using for the back of my Farm Sweet Farm Quilt during the sew along. I made the swatches and added them to my Farm Girl Vintage swatches because I do not use these for backing only... but I love to piece with them as well! These are the four prints from Farm Girl Vintage that I call backgrounds. Here are the aqua prints... The yellow prints... The denim prints... The browns... The teals... The reds... The grays... The oranges... The greens... and the coral and pinks. I keep all alike colored swatch tags together so that when I'm looking for a certain color... I know they are all there in my swatch collection. I make swatch tags for each and every collection as soon as I get it. These are my swatch tags from my Bee Backgrounds Collection This is my go to collection when choosing backgrounds and... I use these swatch tags all of the time when pulling a project together. There are several colors to choose from... in a variety of prints and I always find something that works! I love having a little piece of my fabrics at my fingertips for quick and easy reference. I must admit that when I'm going through my "swatch tag files" I sometimes feel like a librarian lol I've had several questions about how I make them. So here is a quick and easy tutorial on how I do it:) I use kraft tags that you can get in the paper crafting section of any craft store. These are ones that I got at Michaels and they are 3.00 per pack. I use fusible web to iron the fabric onto the tag. Heat and Bond has several different kinds... this is what I use the most:) From the Heat and Bond... I rotary cut one rectangle for each swatch... a little bigger than I want the swatch to end up. For my size tags that means I cut the fusible web 2 1/4" x 4" Most of you probably know this... but if you have never worked with fusible web... it has a smooth side which is paper where you would trace your pattern onto etc. Of course for this there is no pattern to trace:) Here is the "bumpy" side which is the fusible part that irons on. PS. Yes I DO use vintage irons and NO it is not turned on and sitting on my cutting mat lol... scared you didn't I? I grab a piece of the fabric... I don't really take the time to cut it a certain size because I will just trim it down anyways... I just press the rectangle (fusible side down) onto the wrong side of the fabric making sure that there is at least a little fabric hanging over all edges. Then I use my little Cute Cuts Rulers and Mini Cutting Mat to trim it down to 2" x 3 3/4" I trim 2 sides first and then turn the little mat around and trim the other two sides with out picking up the rectangle... easy peasy! I do these a bunch at a time so it's sort of like chain piecing but instead it's chain trimming:) Next step is to peel the paper backing off. Sometimes that is easier said than done. I like to use my longer pins for this... the ones that I usually use to bin borders and larger pieces (Pretty Pins-Sewing) and "score" a mark in the paper. Then I can start peeling from the score line and not the corners... which are hard to start peeling from. Once it's peeled off you will have the other fusible side exposed and can press the fabric swatch directly onto the tag... like this! I like to mark the name of the fabric and also the SKU for easy reference when needed for ordering etc. I use my Planner Pens for this... of course they come in lots of happy colors! I wrote on the info on the back. Remember this Gunny Sack print from my Autumn Love fabric collection? Now it is a Riley Blake Basic and comes in these colors so far... more color combos than these will be coming in about 6 weeks. It really is a big time saver for me to have a swatch tag for each print that I use frequently. I can mix and match colors and collections easily. Like for example... when I am creating and I need several reds and pinks for a valentines project... I just go through my swatches of those colors in all different fabric collections and see which reds and pinks out of all go together well. It's much easier than pulling out every piece of red and pink fabric that I have. Once I have chosen the prints from the swatch I know which fabrics to grab and cut. That is how I have chosen which fabrics to use in each of my vintage blocks for the Vintage Block Along It's easy peasy...quick and fun!! I hope that this explanation of how and why I use my Fabric Swatch Tags and also the Tutorial has helped to answer those questions that those of you have had about them... and you may even want to give them a try! Until next time... Lori

"I love Spring anywhere, but if I could choose, I would always greet it in a garden." ~ Ruth Stout ~ I am happy to share these lovely Springtime gift tags with you! The floral tags actually look better on the screen in a darker version, but I lightened them, because the printed result is much better. I couldn't have made them without wonderful sites offering free graphics online. Here are my image sources: Vintage labels in background: page 1 & page 2 Lilac watercolor Lilac illustration Pansies Yellow Daisies Cosmos Two images I used from my personal collection. They're free to use as well: Remember... No matter how long the Winter, Spring is sure to follow. ~ Proverb ~ Thanks for stopping by!
